    Really great video, Mike, as always. Smooth, buttery foam is something of a mark of pride for me and my apprentice sprayer, definitely appreciate the reminder to turn temps down as we head into the warmer months. Now just to convince the boss to buy some new chambers without scratches lol

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +2

      The guys get all the chambers we want. A wore-out chamber can cause so much frustration. Same with side seal springs, change them often before they lose their spring.

    • @WB-qk8tg
      @WB-qk8tg Год назад +1

      how often should they be changed?

    • @MDG401
      @MDG401 Год назад +1

      @@WB-qk8tg I've found the side seal springs last a few months before they start getting stiff, but you can compare it to a new one by squishing it between your index and thumb. If it barely compresses, it's due for a change. Give it a look anytime you change the o-rings

    what causes closed cell to crack and pull away from the studs in a wall cavity > it looks like it shrunk about 3/16 to .250 and pulled away from the studs the sub straight is OSB

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +3

      A wet or slightly damp substrate will do that every time. The water dis-bonds the foam and when it cools it has no way of staying adhered to the sides.

    Excellent video my friend. When you mention that you are usually spraying at 1000-1200psi is this dynamic pressure (while spraying pulling the trigger) or is this at static pressure (system at idle)? Thank you so much I am a spray tech myself and owner operator and I’ve really enjoyed your videos! You are absolutely helping the industry my friend 🤝

    Excellent information. I am planning on finishing my basement 2006 home in New Hampshire. I have many mechanicals close to the wall or on the wall (Boiler for hot water baseboard heat, Rinnai on demand water, radon bubbler, water tank for fire suppression sprinkler system). I am going to have a mechanical section 1/3rd of the basement that will be unfinished. Should I spray foam the finished areas and the internal wall (dividing the unfinished to finished section)? Or should I spray the entire perimeter in the joists but not insulate the walls in the unfinished area? Want that vapor barrier to prevent mold/mildew in basement. Thanks for your expertise!

    I have been waiting on this video. You don't often talk about shaving closed cell foam. I have an aluminum skinned and framed RV. It is framed out of 2" box, and will have 1/2 inch horizontal wooden stringers as a thermal break. I really want to fill the cavity (2.5 inches) to get the most bang for my buck as I plan on taking this thing to Alaska. Are there any specific tools you use when you need to shave closed cell foam?

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +1

      Nope.
      Knifes and try not to need to shave to much. 1/2" extra will be a bugger for shaving, but save you nothing in performance.

    Question: About to foam a 2x6 exterior wall in South Kansas. Hot in the summer, typically 10-40F in winter. Previous structure was also 2x6 filled with open cell. Would you suggest filling the walls with open cell again or 2-3" of closed cell? Thanks, have been watching on and off for a while now.

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +2

      Pick one product.
      3" closed cell is fine. Caulk the seams in the walls with urethane.

    • @Off-Grid

      @@SprayJones thank you for the reply. Is filling the wall with 5" open cell an option like the rest of the house is or should it just be avoided on an exterior wall in general?

    God I hate spraying foam in the summer when it’s hot and humid. There was a few times this summer I had to remind myself it’s to hot and go shut off the hose heat.

    I see the installer in a couple of the video clips poking the foam they just layed down, and then spraying over the hole. Is he just checking the mix, or just the thickness?

    Hi. I have not heard you address this question in your videos. Is it ok to have a large air gap b/w foam and interior heated wall board? I have a steel exterior wall pole barn with 5 1/2 inch cavities. If I spray 2-3” on the steel, I’ll have a large air gap behind the interior wallboards which may be drywall or plywood. Is that a problem?

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +1

      No, it is not a problem. I do have a video on that. It is in the SPF 101 section about the drywall gap in the wall and if this is Ok?

    Hey Mike, I have a ranch style home I’m currently remodeling. I had the whole house, including the roof, sprayed with closed cell foam. The house has a 2 car attached garage where the attic is open to the rest of the house. Should I insulate the ceiling over the garage to keep the unconditioned air in that area from penetrating the rest of the attic? The guy who sprayed it told me that I shouldn’t insulate it but that doesn’t make sense to me.

    • @SprayJones
      @SprayJones  Год назад +1

      You MUST separate the garage from the rest of the house. There should be an internal gable within the attic. Spray that with 2" of SPF at a minimum to seal the two spaces.
