In Paris spending the day eating at a frozen food only grocery store called Picard. Everything was delicious and some items taste better than restaurants.

Just goes to show it's not impossible to make quality frozen food; it's just that most companies either can't be bothered or don't have the skills. I wish we had Picard in Australia! It would be so handy for single people like myself.
My wife swears by that salmon dish, I love the mustard pasta, my kids love the truffle pasta. Haha. Watching on vacation away from Paris and feel like I’m at home. Loved this!
I must say it's is quite surreal and funny to see you reviewing Picard's food which can't be more "everyday life" for me 🙂. But it is so refreshing to have another point of view for something I am so used to it. It's true that the quality is pretty good for frozen food and sometimes excellent. For Christmas and new year Eve, the options are really stunning with limited releases and can help single people having a great meal by themselves.
Love this. Wish we had it here in the States.
Can Picard come to US pleeeeease? 🥺
@@keld6320 Ca montre aussi a quel point la nourriture au Etats-Unis c'est de la vrai merde.
As a French now living in California, Picard is definitely one of the top stores I miss! Would love having access to that franchise here in the US. Picard food is always a hit!
Thank you for posting this Mikey.
1)It is nice to know there are affordable meals to be had in Paris.
2) I'm very surprised that this type of store would exist in France a country that is a haven for fresh, non-processed food.
3) Only in France is even frozen food higher quality than restaurant food in many parts of the world.
Unfortunately, we french are like everyone else: we don't always have the time nor inclination to cook everyday after a day of work. That's why Picard exists. And to be honest, some of the food Picard sells is better than most of us could cook at home.
@@lolilollolilol7773 Thanks for your honesty and insight. It's been a long time since I've visited France, but I remember the food standards being crazy high and not relying on processed foods. It's nice to know that the French standards have adjusted closer to us mere mortals.
French guy here : "escalopes" are definitely not scallops, escalopes are simply a way to cut and prepare meat.
Scallops would translate to "coquille saint jacques" afaik.
Im worried for if mike comes to the uk and thinks Iceland food is supposed to be amazing. Please don’t try uk frozen food lol
Yeah we already have another Mike who does that sort of thing.
Just don't try UK food aside from Sunday Roasts, which they've mastered
@@sassou8584 harsh you have obviously never had beans chips and turkey dinosaur's
I think the UK equivalent would be Cook, available in posh neighbourhoods.
Frozen kebab pizza?
God bless the French, they can even make frozen food gourmet.
French here: living in Japan, I was so happy when I found out Picard exists in Japan :D
I was born in Paris in the 70’s and back then milk was delivered in bottles at our door and my mom would buy food at the fresh fruit/vegetable market where live poultry was also sold . I would never think 50 years later frozen food would be sold in Paris! Really great video 👌
Mais oui
@@ometofu j’aurais toujours crue que la nourriture surgelée aurait été une vraie insulte à la culture gastronomique Parisienne mais ce mec nous le prouve que non! ☺️
In india milk and vegetables are still delivered at home... What a luxury!
@@bits2389 bro you know we can get groceries delivered right? Lol, I get all my groceries delivered home, at my door
@@NartaQNC i was saying u can make someone deliver at ur house (not ordering online)in india... No offences for france... 😊
Picard is my go to! Such a lifesaver and so affordable. Especially their 2 euros options 👌🏼
I'm french and I like Picard frozen food for its taste and because it's practical but I don't eat it everyday. Except for that I love your enthusiasm while discovering each meal in this video and wish that some french would do the same instead of constantly criticizing what we have. The youth, especially, would prefer burger, sushi or kebab over this while I like both as well as traditional french cuisine 😋
The French really love their food. I am shocked this is convenience food. The quality and presentation are better than some restuarants
Is it really?! As a french person it's just... normal ? Even not that good? Personally I like Picard though, my friends always get snobby with it, but not everyone takes time to make homemade meals 2 times a day, or can afford to go to the restaurant, so it's a fine option.
@@panpan-6944 no said it was extraordinary. But for frozen food it's really incredible quality
Whenever Mike says he'll put the links down below..he never does 😂
Lol. Mike has a whole team working for him, so the blame can be shared.
Mike is always so enthusiastic to try. new food. Even frozen food from the local store. The best part is that he explains why he likes something, or doesn't like something.
This video really exemplifies what's so great about Mike; he's not pretentious.
Just because it's relatively cheap microwave food, he doesn't go in going 'this is going to be so bad, let's see how bad it is'.
lmaoo
Always down to try it !
👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, even the frozen food looks so good, when they are unfrozen of course. Especially the ones at 14:15 and 17:30. The Paris street scenes are so beautiful.
It's so interesting how different countries approach instant food. Thanks as always for sharing!
Mike: "I remember eating frozen dinner as a kid."
Me: Still eating frozen dinner at 33. 💯
I've always wanted to visit France, and obviously by your wonderful reactions to Picard's, I'm all over that. I love truffle, but some chefs overdo it for flash. Less is definitely more.
It’s well worth the trip… true french cooking is much like what you see in Mikey’s Korean episodes… minimal ingredients but amazing results~ all about the method, traditions and love of the art ..been to Germany too and they have some awesome food too! ❤️✋
I don't understand why airlines don't serve food like this!
Great tips for budget minded travelers especially with the exchange rate right now. That Quinoa and salmon looked so yummy and you singing it's praises make me want to try it even more.
Because of the way Mike has filmed the different items, you can't really see the servings/portions are quite small even by French standards. There are definitely better options for budget minded travelers.
According to Tom Scott videos I've seen, that first restaurant is kind of an idea that was started for microwaves decades ago, where the idea was you'd come there, order your food and heat it up. Funny to see it working in Paris of all places.
Yeah, and for it to work in france you know it must be good quality food!
The beauty of a Simply Dumpling video, the architecture, lots and lots of delicious food!
Omg yummm. Such a pretty setting to eat in as well.
First, I couldn't believe you're in Paris and eating frozen food. But by the sounds of it, you are just as good with this then a restaurant. Great idea when travelling and trying to save money!
And by the way, you sure are working hard, putting out so many videos.
Frozen French food looks good 😋
Well in realistic terms, this was a planned video and it wasn't to save money. He got quite a bit more money for the video than he spent. He knew we wanted to see the difference and made a day out of it.
@@MrLordbungus Who are you?
I love things like this, it felt almost like a touristic hack to eat
Hey mike, Been watching your vids for awhile now, and it really helps me relax and watch you eat the food I can't find here at my place; truly happy everytime I watch you it helps me with my cravings specially now that I am pregnant🤗😍
When frozen meals in France actually have legit meat unlike the stuff you buy in the US.
Absolutely loved this video I would love to see more of this food from this type of market
Parisian fresh food markets are great. As for frozen food, Picard is really good quality, but what you get in other supermarkets isn't at the same standard. Good thing that Picard is quite common at least in Paris.
this video gave me whiplash. i'm like wait..what, we're not in Singapore anymore?😀🤤
Agreed. The random posting of his videos as of late is very confusing. I miss series format.
Never considered French convenience store food! I'm going to check out that kind of food from around the world!
Yes!!! I love it! Less gold leaf caviar with a side of kopi luwak. More 7-11s and supermarkets from around the world! Those vids are fantastic 😃
Everything looks so yummy thanks for sharing cheers x
Thanks for the video. Who woulda thought that you can travel to Paris and survive on frozen food? I want one of each!
Wow that frozen meal look really good. Can't believe frozen meal look amazing and delicious in Pairs. I love the frozen dessert.
Mikey went to "go microwave his mozzarella balls"😲😂😂
I’ve been to france a couple of times but had no idea what was inside the Picard stores! Great vid, next time I’m there I’ll have to stop by.
Can I recommend you a great barber in nyc?
Wow!!! The meals looked absolutely amazing!! It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that they are frozen. Thank you for sharing this!
No they don't looked delicious
Frozen French food looks good 😋
I love your videos mike chen, i used to watch them with my x. i know that watching without her isn't the same but it still brings me much comfort. keep up the good work, go mike chen!
Pasta looks like it is hand or fresh made then you cook it in microwave. THE REASON it tastes so good!
Holy moly! That location has been there since I did my study abroad in college in 1999!! I stayed in a youth hostel on the Rue des Bernardins and walked there often!!!
i love the fact you do desserts as well!!
two months of study in Bordeaux has cost me 10 kilos weight gain in 2013, I used to go at Casino their ready food selection was mind blowing
09:12 Scallops is "noix de Saint-Jacques" and chicken is "poulet"
Now you know 😂
why don't airlines buy this food?! looks 100x better than most airplane food!
That microwave shop looked pretty cool think I’ve seen him somewhere else in the world use one of those . I’m not keen on microwave food full stop myself but if you are it’s a brilliant and quick way of eating 👍
South Korea and Japan have similar set ups
Frozen French food looks good 😋
Not all Picard shops have microwaves at disposal though (in fact, most don't), so be mindful about that.
Paris is looking beautiful! Loving the videos you have been filming in Europe lately 😊
too bad it smells like urine
the pasta is amazing, the pork is soft, and the bee is trying to kill you 😆 i laughed out loud in the office
Honey and Dijon mustard sauce with chicken or pork over rice is amazing!!!!!
I swear somehow my senses have heightened and I can taste the food from Mike’s videos now…
My friend Mike woke up and ate breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts… for breakfast. Love it!
Mikey, usually when I can't sleep, I torture myself by watching your food videos. Often items I rewatch certain ones many times. Now I want pasta, a burger, & the pistachio gelato (rewatched your Italy video before this); and I want to try most of these frozen French foods.
Also, I Uber'd yesterday and my driver (Reid) mentioned he knows you. He said he's done some from for you on your Beyond Science channel. Lol, I told him I know about that channel but never watched it. I am all about your food channels.😋😋😋😂🙃
Does anyone else get National Lampoons European Vacation flashbacks watching this lol
Picard is the best! I only tried a few of ready meals but the other single ingredients are always of great quality and the deserts are incredible.
That place is definitely on my bucket list!
Thank you Mike I plan to do France on the cheap, you always have great ideas🖖🏼
My sister lives near a Picard in Paris and I love their truffle mashed potatoes
Ah ah ah I knew Mike would fall in love with Picard, like we all do 😂. Best frozen food chain in France by far !
I lived in France for 15 years and I really do miss PIcard, especially their seasonal regional special weeks. The American specials were great!
Loved this video Mikey 😍😍😍
You gotta try find yourself a good cassoulet! I can't really find it where I live so I make my own but honestly, I see it as France's national dish imo, with some rice it's one of the best comfort food
I'd love to see one of these in Australia. I don't think I'd ever have to cook again.
The French are so reserved about their culinary prowess. Tourists taste their food and would go "Mama Mia!" and the French Guy in Turtleneck, Beret with a Menjou mustache would say 'We know.." arms crossed while puffing his cigarette holder..
Other parts of the world have higher standards and regulations as far as what can and cannot be used in foods. We continue to allow chemicals that other countries have banned. This is why other parts of the world have higher qualities of food, despite their economic tier.
These microwaveable foods are way more satisfying than Banquet meals lol. 😋
Absolutely beautiful area and video, love watching your travels, since its very hard for me to travel. The into with the wooden utensils, i instantly felt that wood on my teeth. Gave me chills. lol
So impressed. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾🤗🥰
Wow. Just delightful 🔥🔥🔥🙌😋
If u like the mustard sauce u got to have Tescos honey mustard pasta salad it’s my favourite~
Dang!! I can’t even find my stoufers Mac and beef here in Florida. They have everything over there. Nice arrangement. 😋
Used to live in Paris for 3 years, was a depressed teenager who got moved into a foreign country so suddenly during my puberty and I really didn't like the people there. I truly miss France though, would love to go back. Yeah and the food was definitely amazing and they were all so fresh. The boulangeries, kebab and pizza places, the muscles from Léon!! My lord. Highlight of my years living in Paris, 100 percent.
Saw Picard food from RedMart one day and checked the ingredients list , surprisingly clean! Thanks to your video that I get to know where they are actually from !
Hey mikey u be safe and careful there and God bless u always 🙏 u are at one of my favorite places on my bucket list. Safe travels.
I pack my freezer full of Picard dishes every week. Everything is good there : D
confused... where's the Singapore Sichuan buffet mentioned at the beginning of the video?? Was it an editing error?
This is my favorite video, love Europe videos!
Howdy Mike! Just wanted to say my husband and I love to watch your show at dinnertime. Your channels legit make me hungry WHILE I am eating my dinner 😂 I cook very basic meals, so its kinda like food daydreaming! Hoping to someday travel to some of the places you visit and try the wonderful cuisines they have to offer.
You always make me hungry xD
thanks mike omg that looks so good
That frozen food store would be my favorite place to go.. I'm not the most clever when it comes to cooking but already portioned and all i gotta do is heat it up.. lesssgooo. XD I do feel guilty about packaging tho.. so hopefully its recyclable n such.
Thank you veryyyyyyyy much !!! Greetings from Paris 😃
We're lucky in Hong Kong to have Picard products sold at M&S here. It's so good!
Always get so hungry and jealous watching these videos 😀
12:33 okay the cake got me 😩👍❤️ Good stuff Mike !
Love Singapore. Haven't been for 35 years but would love to go back and stay at the Raffles again.
You said their times were on point, but earlier you had to reheat the mozarella balls? Which is it my man.
I must have that white chocolate flowerpot! I've never wanted to visit France more!!
Cassoulet was my first introduction to duck meat. Fell in love!!!
You made the AG1 look really good.
Enjoy watching from Cambodia
SPICE STATION-KINGSVILLE, TX THE BEST INDIAN CUISINE IN THE U.S!!
MUST TRY!!!
Absolutely, I was going to say the same!! Passed through with my family after visiting SPI! BEST INDIAN FOOD WE HAVE EVER HAD!
An absolute must! Genuinely authentic indian cuisine!
This place reminds me of M&M meat shops in Canada. Makes me wonder if this was a direct inspiration
The area you ate at reminded me of the birthday dinner in Emily in Paris alot for some reason
7:39 That pigeon wants a bite too.
It doesn't look much different than frozen here in the US, but the variety is a heck of a lot better. Adds this to my bucket list.
What a beautiful location to film. Amazing.
Nice to have you in my city, you should have organized a fan meet-up lunch/diner 🙂
If ya haven't done so Mike, ya gotta try non-microwaved cassoulet. Its definitely my favorite French dish
