    Becoming a master programmer takes years of experience and takes lot of real world problem solving skills. You can learn a lot in some classes but only time and motivation will make you a master.

    • @J_Trask
      @J_Trask Год назад +10

      That lesson can be applied to anything. This is why is is disheartening to have years of experience in your field (that doesn’t require a degree), but when someone comes along that paid for a college degree, they can command a higher salary with no actual experience. I’ve been told by employers “The more you know, the more you earn”, but this isn’t really true in the real world in all situations. If you’re not in a professional job, words like that are just a brass ring. Ultimately, workers should be based on what they produce, not their education. The education is supposed to facilitate one to be great in their field. The problem I see with many management jobs for example, is that job boards usually advertise “Must have Bachelor’s degree”, BUT it is irrelevant WHICH FIELD the degree is in. If you’re required to have a degree, but it isn’t specific to the job you’re applying for, IMO this is gatekeeping meant to keep people out that due to circumstance, economic, familial, etc., are not able to pay the insane costs to get a college education. With all this said, I’m glad I joined the electrical trade, and am able to carve a career path in my trade. With all the free information available online, free lectures, Udemy, etc., people should be able to take official exams for knowledge in a field and by passing them, get accreditation towards a college degree. Many of my coworkers are intelligent and knowledgeable, and it would be amazing to be able to get college credit for what we know. I went through a 4-year apprenticeship, and in turn I got nearly 40 college credit hours. Im in the process now of seeing if I can apply that toward a degree related to what I’m doing. Very exciting!

    • @J_Trask
      @J_Trask Год назад +6

      @NRGY I completely understand there are fields like law and medicine, and engineering, that years of school is required, but IMO the majority of jobs don’t need college degrees, and instead need real training and experience. In most other countries, when you go to university, you learn specifically what you intend to used, and it is free/cheap. In the USA, you take years of other courses on top of a major. Some say this is to make “a well rounded education”, but I think this is wrong. There is SO MUCH bloat in the higher education system, and the cost is all hefted onto the backs of 17-18yo kids that have been told by all the adults around them that the MUST get a college degree in order to be successful, which in turn saddles them with years of student loan debt , much of which is interest. It is abhorrent for example there are 15,000 staff at Stanford for a school that teaches about 17,000 students at one time, and that many of their staff earns 7-figure salaries.

    4:15 honestly you’re really doing a lot of people and I’ve just signed up for Coursera and joined one of your courses so myself included but you’re doing all of us huge favor a huge service and that really speaks to you as a person. Thank you. Seriously thank you for that. We need more people in the world who actually think of someone other than themselves, and how to help those who want a career want to learn but just don’t have the means to get there. I live in Canada and yet I didn’t even have any shot at all of going to either college or university until I was 29. Not through any fault of my own but because I grew up raised by my grandmother and when she got Alzheimer’s, I was 13 and she couldn’t take care of me anymore. She needed me to help her, which I did even in the nursing home. So there’s many reasons why people don’t have access to education even in first world from “ rich countries” and from families with money. Just because your family has money like my mother did doesn’t mean she’s willing to help or they’re willing to help even when things go pear-shaped. So it’s nice to see classes like this as well as these classes called MOOC, which are generally free and include some form of certification or certificate at the end. They allow entry into the chorus for people from any country in the world. And that’s wonderful. That’s a great opportunity for all of us. Keep it up.

Unfortunately, I got really discouraged as a beginner, seeing everyone in my first programming class (C++) already breezing through the course work. I passed with a C but that took everything I had. I dropped after my grades tanked, spend the time between then and now persuing an EET degree. I was one course away from graduating with my associates(internship), but keep running into new obsticals that make it seem like its not worth it... On June 1st, 2023, I started using freecodecamps responsive web design course and continute researching ways that I can teach myself for free. I can't afford to go back to school like many others. The goal is to document my journey and help others understand that you don't have to go to a college to get a good paying job. (And to stop finding ways to discurage yourself!)

    Lots of love and respect to both the gentleman for the amazing video and special thanks to Dr.Chuck for making the course free and available. The way you explained I think you broke the myth that programming is not so difficult. I am planning to learn this and this is would be my first try to learn programming ever as I never tried bcos people and college curriculum made it look like it’s not everyone’s cup of team. Thank you once again for inspiring many of us to keep learning. Thank you David for the great channel and content you make. Your videos are to the point and amazing as always. God bless you both and I pray that you both get multitudes of happiness, good health and wealth in your lives.❤❤

    This is what I've been wondering so far, I like to learn Computer Science, and contribute to open source projects like libraries, frameworks, devtools, even dive deep into Operating System, Compilers,... OSS are fine, but getting a job involve these is too much research, which requires tons of experience, or at least a degree like PHD or somehow. It's tough to get there, especially in a situation where I lack money. Your solution is awesome, be a programmer first, settle, and learn deeper about Computer Science. I'll start the journey now. Thank you so much for being such a great person!
