Not to mention, the cartoonist style reduces the level of detail, making the amount of possible variation even lower, as you have to prioritize recognizable features for people to be able to tell what it is. Frankly, the fact they look as different as they do is kind of amazing. The biggest actual similarity is the belly, which shows large segments instead of small scales, presumably because small scales would have been too much detail for their cartoonish style.
