Worth noting is that they also have a shorter 8 week course. It is dedicated to orthobiologics, so you won't learn to use the major surgery implements. It's 7 weeks at home "self-study," quotes because you have lecture delivery and interaction with your cohort and assignments due each week, you cannot work ahead or fall behind. In the final week, you go to Denver to put a bow on all your skills, from product knowledge, interviewing, getting in front of docs and decision-makers, etc. It's around $10k all in with modest travel expenses.
I totally agree with you. I just graduated from Vanderbilt University and was a collegiate baseball player as well, and I was highly intrigued by med device sales. I finished my 12 week program at MSC in mid September and landed a territory position with Zimmer Biomet a few weeks after. As a young guy who broke into the industry the most valuable information I can add on to this is that you HAVE to have a high level of confidence or else you’ll be overlooked. Solid opportunity straight out of college/msc. Confidence is a big factor in the interview process. You can get away without being cocky in the actual role, but you definitely need to sell yourself first. Thanks for the comment, and again, congrats on the role you got. I personally went to MSC and paid the tuition out of my own pocket. Jason Barrera worked directly with me as a student. What you put into MSC is what can ultimately translate to a job..nothing is guaranteed. If you want to network and grind enough, MSC will speak for itself. If the individual grind is not there, you wont get very far.
I did, it was through a friend who owns a distributorship. MSC doesn’t really help that much, at least for the cost to you. I personally would start networking with reps in the field first.

I start this May and I am pretty nervous because I hopped from a pretty secure job, but you have to take one step backwards to go three steps forward sometimes.

Sounds like MSC is something worth thinking about for those who can afford to make a big investment into themselves and don’t have a background that easily translates to getting their foot into the door. Question: why does medical sales, specifically, have such a high barrier to entry? Is it really that much more attractive than other sales industries?
Medical sales is considered the cream of the crop when it comes to sales. Due to this, there is high demand for the rolls which means higher than average candidates. You hit it as well with more attractive. Many people see it as that therefore make it more in demand.
Thanks for comment! After my conversation with them, if you were planning on pausing your bachelors degree and pursuing this instead, it doesn’t really change your odds. The only difference is the pool of employers will be smaller due to some requiring that the candidate has a bachelors. They have a great network, but you will still need to do your part on networking as well.

I have had my several years of experience in retail/sales and am currently a licensed esthetician and a professional makeup artist who is seeking to take my people/communication skills into a different route!

Yes it’s pretty simple. In the search bar you can type something like “Stryker ” that will pop up people with that city name in Stryker as well as people that work at Stryker with that city in their profile. Add these people and message them. See what internships and associate roles are available. I’d do this for every medical company you want to be a part of. Hopefully someone nearby would be willing to meet for coffee or something to tell you more about the role. Just building this dialogue while you’re in college is great. Having connections when you finish is what will help you land a role ASAP. Do the same with recruiters - search medical device recruiters and begin connecting with them.
I’d say a range between $45-75k depending on company and role. That would be salary, some come with quarterly bonuses if team hits goal and mileage reimbursement etc. On average OTE for an ASR would be in a band of $60-85k once you add everything up. The higher ends being the rarer cases.

Hey, thanks for the question. So ageism will definitely unfortunately play a factor in hiring. Highly depends on the role you’re looking at doing. I doubt you’d want to take orders from a rep 15-20yrs younger than you and start as an associate. So if I was waking up as you, I’d be very picky on what roles I was applying to. I worked with senior reps in the early 40’s - 50’s so you can definitely make the transition. Just very much depends on the position/role/product you’re looking to sell. Tbh, id look into companies like intuitive that the majority of the time only promote from within. So you’d start as an associate, but work your way up a dedicated ladder. Or other roles within DME positions etc. I’m not saying you can’t do it, but it will definitely be a 2nd job in itself researching, networking, and applying for roles. Good luck! Not at all. Really just depends on the field you go into. I’m working with reps that have been in the same role for over 20 years. Others that are in their 30’s 40’s still in entry/first promotion positions.

MSC seems unnecessary. There is no guarantee anyone will get a job just bc of this. Not sure if it is worth the cost...

From my understanding they offer a biologics online course. If you want any type of ortho course though that will be done in person.
