They always have a donation bin that they “highly encourage” the seller to donate the rest of the 99% of the clothing they have rejected. I am convinced that they then take the donations and resell them at 100% profit.
@@iateanickleyou can only use up to like $360 for a private family for donations and I'm guessing a business couldn't be that much higher.... I'm more believe that they are taking the donations and going through them and then only donating what they can't re sell
They always claim that your clothes are “too dated”. Then I find articles on their racks that are by far more “dated” than what I just tried to sell them.
Let me tell you this is spot on. I hate Plato’s closet. They give you nothing for what they do take and when you look around in the store it’s all junk poor quality junk.
I used to work at Plato's when i was 20. I couldnt understand certain things that we had to turn down but then there would be other things that Im like "why do we sell this?".. Their security video feed went live to the district office also and there were times where we had literally been slammed all day and then someone would be "standing around"for a few minutes(and they wouldnt really just be standing around) and someone from corporate would call our manager whining about it! Our manager was horrible! We literally had tubs everywhere behind the desk and in the back for bought items. There where so many days during the weekend especially, that people were lined out the door with bags and bags of clothes to sell. I think we might have implemented a limit at one point. I always felt so bad when telling people how much we could give them and everything we had to turn down!
Def the same at my location. They proposed a 1 tote limit. Wed have to type in all this info and it gives us a total. It could be brand new and trending but if the tag was from an older year we could not buy.
I worked at American Eagle, had all new stuff that was bought the previous floor set, and they wouldn’t take them. They really do not know what they are doing.
I had this happen at a Once Upon A Child. I had 4 huge bags of kids clothes, most still had the tags on, from reputable stores. They didn't like me for whatever reason. They refused my items. I literally saw many of them as I left, marked higher priced than what my original tags listed them for. I refuse to shop resale places like these, because they are operated like they're run by the mean kids in Jr High.
Once upon a child is horrible. I brought in 2 bags full of barely worn and brand new baby clothes and they rejected half and tried giving me 10$ for the rest. I took all of it back and donated it. 10$ for items, I'm sure they would get 50$ + altogether after selling.
i love Once Upon A Child. might just the local franchise. but im mostly a shopper. my kids old clothes is usually turned into rags instead of donated since we don’t buy high end brands.
The one and only time i ever successfully sold something to Plato's closet, they took a shirt with a hole in it, and rejected the jeans with the tags still on them. That place was delulu
I think it depends on the person going through your stuff and what they consider "cute" or in style. The last time I went to browse their store, I didn't see anything I liked in the whole store. Haven't gone back since.
Literally the only time I successfully sold something to a Plato’s closet was when I sold them a Fjallraven Kanken backpack (don’t buy one of those, it’s the worst backpack I’ve ever had and I HATED it)
They told me that mine were not in style basically. I literally had black Dolce & Gabbana slim pants with a nice fitted jacket that I bought the year prior in Paris. Black and a nice fit is timeless, and it was a designer that I would think was decent enough to resell, but they said they were too out dated. I couldnt believe it. I was annoyed so I went outside and was putting the stuff in my car when a couple passed me and saw the outfit and bought it right there in the parking lot in front of the store. I felt vindicated, especially since the girl inside saw me.
I worked at Plato's. I hated it. You'd take the item - go to the computer, that computer had a list of fashion brands/stores theyd accept in the system, enter condition, size - all that other crap and the computer spits out a price. I haaated telling people we couldnt take certain stuff.
Thanks for telling us this. It’s just a job after all in the end. It’s not your fault for the place and the system not accepting clothing. I’m sure that was uncomfortable when people just stared after the system said, “no”.
They literally would point out the CRAZIEST STUFF! On my clothes. And legitimately half of it was brand new from the season prior. It would’ve sold so well. They were literally so fucking crazy. I’m surprised they were even able to stay in business for as long as they did and even up until now??? With all the malls closing down? They feel like a money laundering front fr
Every Plato's Closet must be the same. This exact thing happened to me. They're a used clothing store but employees have the condescending attitude of Rodeo Drive Chanel store staff
I would rather give my clothes to a homeless person or build a bon fire than go sell to Plato’s closet. I don’t donate to goodwill anymore either. 75 cents for a 70$ top only to turn around and see it listed for 30$.
@@missjddrage1111 Are you saying giving clothes away to people in need is stingy as opposed to getting a little money so a business can make them inaccessible to people in need?
That was the exact thing that drove me away from Plato's closet in my early 20's. They acted exactly like this! It wasn't until my daughter started to want to shop there that I came back for her. The cashiers were so rude back in the day and made you feel old at like 23. I'm glad it has changed!
Yep! It's why I only went once and never went back. And this was back when I was only like 19 or 20. They really have a way of making you feel like your clothes are trash.
My sis and I were teens when we visited the store one time, and it was to make a purchase. Once we saw the prices for some used clothes we never went back.
When I overheard the girls at the counter talking down about one of the customers who had dropped off clothes saying “OMG! Yeah, this is such a sympathy buy!”, I was done. It’s capitalism, how dare the business slam the customer, especially with an audience.

I brought in a bunch of pants in, all size 16. All were rejected because they had too many already. But yet, as I browsed around, I could only find a couple items above a size 12. Haven't gone back in years.
You are so funny and relatable. I'm bummed because I've already watched all of your videos and want more. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. Sending love from Los Angeles 💛💜
We used to have a locally owned second hand store that as specifically for children's clothes, and they were so absurdly picky that it was ridiculous. Wouldn't take even like-new Halloween costumes despite Halloween coming up. Wouldn't take 98% of sportswear despite being right in the middle of most local youth sports venues. Picky about what colors and patterns basic things like shorts or shirts had on them. But then parents who needed to save a few dollars would shop there and have a hard time finding what they were hoping for - because the store was so picky that they weren't taking things the local community needed! A lot of these places focus way too much on "trendy" or "aesthetic" clothes that fit a certain expectation they have, and forget to consider what's ACTUALLY wanted and needed in the community population shopping there.
Do you even know what the word aesthetic means, because you’re not using it correctly. It seems like all of gen. z and alpha doesn’t understand how to use the word aesthetic with the correct context. It’s funny seeing 2 generations trying and failing to use the word correctly, but it definitely tracks, since these 2 generations are the most inept, narcissistic, full of fluff and nothing groups of people I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m not the only one that notices either, I don’t know how many articles and data I’ve seen in the last couple years highlighting how utterly dependent and not self sufficient gen. z and alpha are. I know that the older generations always find something wrong with the young generation that is coming to usurp their throne as the reigning youths and resident cool kids, but this is ridiculous! These 2 generations are the most entitled, arrogant, ignorant, self righteous, and narcissistic people I’ve ever seen! And being arrogant and ignorant is a dangerous mix and they all have these 2 characteristics in spades! 😳
I hate Platos. They didn't want anything of mine because it was "too dated" i.e. over 5 years old. Then I bought a purse, got home and decided I didn't like it as much as I thought and they don't do returns. I'm still salty about it 20 years later. 😆
Honestly, 5 years may be too generous. From the way they describe what they’re looking for, they’re practically looking for styles straight off the runway. 2 years old would me being generous. They seriously want clothes that are that recent…when they’re literally a used clothes store. It’s like they really want us to wear the latest from this fashion season and then immediately try to sell it there the next season.
I must have had the worst Plato’s Closey because they never had anything good (in the 90s) then I found their sister company Clothes Mentor and never looked back. I got Coach wallets for $20 that I still have and use and probably will my whole life. I found gently worn shoes. Some of their stuff is more corporate wear for older women, but they also had designer basics like tees and jeans. My consignment and thrift shop secret is looking at the designer stuff that still looks new or almost new. It’s a sign that the clothes are well made and will last a long time so paying a little more is worth it. Like if I can find anything Ralph Lauren that is affordable that I love, I’m buying it. My experience in the past (gulp) 30 years is that Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Talbots (they have really nice tees and great sales even if everything else is older), Nautica knits and pjs for my husband, etc. will last for years and still look great. A couple companies used to be really nice but aren’t as well made anymore like J Crew and GAP. I just found a gorgeous Ralph Lauren trench coat for $100 at Nordstrom Rack. It says it was $300 retail, but usually their stuff is more than that for a coat. It’s got tortoise shell buttons and buckles and came in a beautiful rusty brown that I think will be more flattering than the very light tan khaki that trenches usually come in. I’m a pale redhead, and that light khaki washes me out.
@@carolineholland5841 yeah, she told me they didn't take things older than X 😭 amount of years. I thought it was 5, but may have been less. Then she told me multiple reasons why they wouldn't take certain items, like the length of the shirts were too short because long shirts were what was in style, etc. It was ridiculous. They were literally clothes I wore in high school that I was trying to sell a few years later in college. 🤦♀️
I am a professional reseller and have a lot of luck at Plato's. I'll take bags full of clothes I paid $5 for from a thrift store that does "Fill a Bag for $1" and make almost 100 bucks. You have to bring in the clothes very freshly laundered (and use scent beads). Folded very neatly in a nice bin. They need to match the season you're in- unless it's ending. And they have to be somewhat current styles. I'll browse Tik Tok and Pinterest before I buy. I'll also dress nicely and act very business. Have had A LOT of success doing this. Moved out of state and tried it in my new state and it works just as well. You're presenting something nice right off. It sets the mood.
I had Hollister and AE with tags still attached... and a pair of BARELY WORN Citizens of Humanity jeans they wouldn't take, because they were bootcut and that was the beginning of skinny jeans ( I am old, haha...) I was just moving and needed to make space, I figured I could make a few extra bucks while I was at it, it was nice stuff, barely worn if not new like I said... They took one pair of skinny jeans. I had to haul my giant garbage bag to Goodwill anyway...
A few years ago, I brought clothes there in the spring..some with tags and a pair of Prada sunglasses. They rejected everything and said it wasn't the right season...what?? Ridiculous.
This happened twice recently where two different shops didnt take ANYTHING and it was nice stuff! So i laid my stuff out in my driveway with a free or donation sign with my venmo and got more than these places would have given me! Crazy
Once upon a child didn’t want brand new baby clothes with tags. The stuff they were selling was stained, pilled and look like it had been used for 5 or 6 kids. 🤯 Plato’s closet did the same to me when I was 20-21. I never set foot in these places again lol
I had an insane back to back experience with both of these places. I went with my mom to donate a bunch of my old clothes from probably ages 4-8 to Once Upon A Child and they didn’t take a single thing, telling us to go down the street to Plato’s Closet. Plato’s then told us my stuff was too young and to go to Once Upon A Child. I think in the end my mom found a place to donate the clothes to through church or even a Goodwill, but it was insane how the stuff on the racks looked worse than what I was trying to donate!
Ok, I’ve never been to this place and I can’t speak from experiencing the place and im sure it is as ridiculous as everyone is saying in the comments. One thing I will say, in recent years I’ve noticed people selling used stuff they literally do not want and have gotten their use out of it and expect the same or close to the same price they paid for it. Like No, their is no way im paying more than 1/2 of what it costs brand new and even less for clothing items. I am literally taking away, in other words, what would be your trash. If it was brand new I would consider it. I remember going and having yard sales back in the day and everything was $0.50 - $1.00 and up to $5-$10 at most for electronics or furniture. Just something to consider, as the only other option would be trash or donating which is free.
I worked at platos closet, i think the reason theyre so blunt is because (at least at my store) they dont let us sit down during our shift, there arent even seats available, so we dont have the energy to be nicer 😭our bosses are also really strict on styles according to modern wear and season
And now, as a parent, going to Once Upon a Child.... Same. They take maybe three things and the rest, even if it still has tags on it, just get returned so..... Yup.
I had the same experience at Once Upon A Child. We ended up getting frustrated and just boxed everything up, gave it to a pregnant family member and told her that if she can’t use any of it, to please just pass it on to someone else until the clothes are unusable or lost. I know that a lot of those clothes have gone through several babies/toddlers in the family, so at least we got our money’s worth from them that way.
Nightmare store. 3 bags brought in and all refused. Said they don't take kids clothing from a smokers home. We were not smokers and they were also just washed. Delusional.
We used to have a Children’s Orchard clothing resell in town. They always had brand name children’s clothing for a cheap price and most looked brand new. I bought a lot of my kids clothes from there and then I sold them back to them as they grew out of them. I did find Plato’s Closet bought half of what I brought compared to the children’s store buying almost everything. I found I got more money selling them in a garage sale.
LOL I was told the same thing. Went in when I was 21 with a bag of clothes, they bought like 3 things and said the rest were too "business forward". I had designer dresses and tops in there from modeling. I prefer to think of it as my clothes were just too classy.
i work at a plato’s and i am sure you had cute stuff our brand is supposed to be teen casual so we rely more on casual trends rather than formal or fancy
Plato's, Clothes Mentor and Once Upon a Child are owned by same company. They pay roughly one-fourth of what they will sell the item for, which is one-third to one-half what you paid for it. Basically a little better than donating.
I used to love our local OUAC, but they remodeled and now have SIGNIfICaNTLY less selection...and no more of the boutique brands. I got so many name brand boutique items at less than the cost of big box store clothing and saved so much money. My kids were dressed so cute! Such a bummer.
I like to donate my thing to my local women’s and children’s shelter if possible. A lot of them now have implemented donations write offs, so if I go in they will ask me roughly how much value the thing I’m donating has, and they get that amount in gov subsidies, I get a tax write off, and people who really need the items get them. Win X3
I remember that trauma SO WELL. I think my first trip there, I got super lucky & they took almost everything. But after that single trip, it was all downhill and demeaning from there. My bff & I would go in with huge armfuls of clothing, aaand…walk out with the same armfuls of clothing & zero dollars😭
Oh my God spot on!! I had nice stuff they wouldn't take but they have stuff in the store that has holes that shouldn't have holes and tattered that goodwill wouldn't take and the staff spot on are like that
I'm glad I'm not alone here! I had some super nice stuff from Torrid and they said it was too business like. Offered me a couple bucks for one top. Been donating to the homeless shelter ever since. I don't want to hassle for a few bucks per item at best.
They give a PITTANCE. And they always do the same shpeal, "this price reflects the quality, wear, etc". I never bring worn out trash to platos! One time i brought 3 NWT, brand name items, and they gave me a measley $12 and told me that amount reflected the wear... THEY WERE BRAND NEW. I hate selling to them. I always feel like I've been robbed
Omg this is so accurate. I was in there once in my early twenties. My clothes were in great condition. I wore Hollister, American eagle, Aeropostale…. etc. The popular brands in that age group. They barely took anything and offered me so little. I can’t remember what they offered now. I want to say less than $20. I too was told to try some other place. I think I just took my stuff and left. They had a ton of ads promising the exact opposite of what they delivered.
I heard Plato's closet was like this so I have bever been in one, for any reason. Also, that coral shrug you wiped your tears with? Yeah, I still have mine, too 😂 I wore it just the other day!
Totally did this to my daughter! All her clothes were Victoria Secret sweatpants & sweaters that cost her $70 ea. Also Hollister & Aeropostale thick & kept like new sweaters. My daughter has always been skinny & in shape bc she was a gymnast in high school & kept herself in the same shape. Plato’s Closet denied all her clothes except one tank top exclaiming out “these are actually not the brands we buy but also we don’t really buy these sizes or have a need for sweaters since they won’t really sell (it was November). Then she proceeded to say “we have a donation bin, please donate them so that you can help the local neighborhood”. 2 weeks later, we walked around & the racks had all those brands in different sizes & colors. All the teen girls were buying exactly what my daughter dropped off. So yeah they resold what she donated.
I worked at a Plato’s Closet in college. It sadly does depend on the employee sorting through clothing. We’re taught not to buy anything older than 2 years (you can check the tag and find what year it was made). Some people can be extremely rude about it though. Some clothing was absolutely stunning that people brought in but we couldn’t buy it bc it was a ‘brand that does sell well’ or ‘not casual enough’.
@@EmiliapocalypseI worked at Plato’s Closet in college too. Some companies like GAP and Old Navy have a special tag which does indicate the date, while other companies change the look of their tags every 6 months. The employees were given a catalog by Plato’s Closet every month which showed us the latest tags and fashions. We had to study this catalog every month. Unfortunately human error and personal bias still have a play when it comes to purchasing items from customers. A special computer system tells the employees how much the items are worth.
I was STUNNED that I recently found a vintage early 90's Paris Blues floral denim jacket from Plato's for $11! I've never found anything vintage there before and I worked there in 2004 😅
I took in a lot of brand new up to date clothes that my ex had bought for our son. They were more urban designers but very expensive, like $300 jeans etc. They of course didn’t buy them. I get that they buy what will sell but I took them to a another consignment store in the same shopping center and they were so excited to take them all. At that store they give you a portion of whatever they sell for them rather than money upfront.
This store got crazy. I lived in Colorado Springs, CO, and the company took plus suze clothing from Catherine's. I came to Johnson City, TN, and it all thin cloths from 3 years or less from popular countries.
I went there ONCE in 2016 and NEVER again bc they didn’t want 99% of my clothes too. Tbh I wanna walk in look around and then go ask the people at the front “where do you guys keep the nice clothes???”
It was Crossroads Trading Co where I live. They say they want current years fashions. Why the hell would anyone buy this years trends just to sell to them . I never understood them. I did figure out that if you just keep taking the same stuff in one of them will eventually buy them. Great concept if they werent so snobby about it. I swear thry must train the employees to be snotty little bishes
Omg this exact thing happened to me. Got told the style was old when I was 22. I had to walk back to my car with the bag, I ended up kust dropping it off at a donation bin for a local shelter. At least no one will tell me my clothes suck.
Same!!!!!! I had nice new and barely worn clothes... they wanted 1 item..I said nah I'll donate it. I'm still salty to this day and refuse to shop there.
Same thing happened to my teen daughter. Her stuff was totally “in style “. They bought some shoes and that was it. We donate now to a thrift store that actually helps people with their sales.
I really want to know where they are getting their clothes from because I hear the same story from everyone Brought 3 huge bags of my 16 year old all lables in perfect condition and after 2 hours they took out 2 shirts and didn't want the rest. Where are they getting their inventory from?
From people who buy the latest trends and cycles through clothes very quickly. I’m talking clothes from like 2 years ago or less. I have a sister is always buying from the latest trends, and her stuff sells much better than mine.
Mostly 50 cent boxes. Macy's and other retailers pack unsold clearance items into boxes of 50 pieces and sell them at auction. People will buy them (usually for about 50 cents since you can't see what's in them), and then take all of the tags off. Quick wash, and bring them to Plato's Closet to sell at about $10-15 profit per box on average.
Everyone gets mad about stores not wanting to buy their items but they forget people usually dontate clothing for free ☠ any clothing resale place isn't hurting for merchandise.
Agree. Nothing is worse than totaling up your expenses at the end of the year and realizing you spent over 4500 on clothes alone…that you couldn’t re-sale for 30 bucks. New clothes are the worse investment. Buy a few classics, keep them year after year, and just add a few items each year.
Something similar happened to me as well! I bought a few pairs of jeans at Plato‘s, but I did not try them on in the store. I took them home, didn’t like them, but had removed the tags. I went to sell them back to the same store a week later and they told me that they were too mature. I tried to argue and they did not care.
The part about business store was exactly what I was told over 10 years ago. The one and only time I went there. I felt fine walking out with all of the stuff; I can’t remember why the couldn’t take anything I brought in but I do remember she was polite.
I took my daughters clothes there and they didn't want any of it. She was growing so fast some of that stuff had never been worn. All Hollister back when jeans were $60 on sale.
I tried one time. I was also fresh out of a c-section, and they acted like I was sketchy for my husband carrying it. Then he stayed in the car with my newborn and I just had to drag the full bag back out. There was some stuff with tags, and they said "we only accept new things, brand names, in good condition". I've seen Walmart stuff there, often! I do feel like, at 27, it's not for me anymore. Which is insane! I also overheard the workers talking about saving the "good stuff" for themselves, so, not cool. They're pretty expensive anymore too.
Daaaammmnnn, do they also sell aloe for that burn?! It's always the 19 year old hipster cashier they just made a manager that morning acting like you're 86, a Republican and a Christian. 😂😂😂 Mercy?! Mercy??? HAHAHA!! Yeah...NO! 😭
This reminds me of a kids thrift chain in my area called Kid 2 Kid! I spent so much time going though my kids stuff, sorting out the stuff too worn or stained for trade in, and everything else was clean and neatly folded... they rejected MOST of it.😅 Even stuff that we had bought FROM THEM with tags still on them. 😭 It's an excellent place to shop though. I just hate trying to sell them anything. 😅 They will keep the rejects and donate them for you though if you want them to. I'm always too afraid that staff will just take whatever they want instead of buying it if I say yes. I think they just have way too much already and can't buy everybody's stuff (space constraints).
I remember going with my friend to Plato's closet around that same time. She had a HUGE bag of namebrand clothes. They wanted to pay her like $10 for not even half of it. She found one if the same items she was selling on the floor for like $8, they gave her like a dollar 💀
I hope you can find a high end consignment store that may give nothing when you leave your clothes, but will give 40-50% of any sale. Ask how they track sales so you can feel reassured. That can pay off in $100s.
So I took a ton of clothes in of mine and my daughters (16). Everything and I mean everything was in GOOD condition and name brand. I’m talking SHEIN, pacsun, Aerie/AE, lululemon, alterd state, Zara and small boutiques, UGGs, Nike dunks, vans, etc. Literally all trendy and cute. They wanted to give me $56 for 8 big bags of stuff, some had tags. NEVER again. I declined the offer and left. I posted all the stuff on my local Facebook rummage page and made over $650 😅 I will never go there again.
Literally never had them take one item. I even had my daughter's "younger" clothes and the same brands as they had hanging up but my stuff was too old. The attitude is spot on too.
I promise you that what they buy is NOT just based on how “new” the clothes are. Yes, that’s what their system goes by, but at least a decent portion of Plato’s Closet employees ALSO take into account the owner & their presentation & “vibe.” Whether they’re ALL trained on it specifically or if it’s just my local ones that’ve been trained to do it, I don’t know, but I’ve been to others that weren’t local & it was immediately obvious they did the same thing. So yeah, it makes it feel even more insulting. 😂
I once had a job interview and training for a place like this. It was the similar idea of buying used toys and clothes then re-selling them. I didn’t take the job because the staff were rude and you could tell they were ripping off poor families that were just trying to get by.
I tried to sell my clothes at a Plato’s closet ONE TIME and they were AWFUL. The clerk was SNOBBY AF. My clothes were “out of season” or “unacceptable brands” so they did NOT take ANYTHING. I walked away feeling like an old, out-of-date poor person in my late 20’s 😂. Bcuz of my experience, I will NEVER buy, sell or step foot into another pLaTo’S cLoSeT ever again. I was shocked a thrift store would treat their customers worse than an exclusive expensive brand-named store!! It bewilders me to this day how they could be so pompous and pretentious 😂
Omg this just triggered a memory i have of when my daughter was like 5yrs old i had so much baby and toddler stuff that she never wore because she grew so quick (even at 9yrs old now shes as tall as me and im 5'3) so i went to a place in stl called noahs ark it was like Plato but for kids. I'd never been before so when i walked in with all of these brand new clothes never worn with tags still on 80% off them, started to give them to the lady and she was like my age but so much attitude! They call us back after 20mins and they only want one thing😮 im like what?! Why? they said the clothes were too old and when i looked through the clothes they tore all the tags off of everything 😡 needless to say that place closed down right after that soooo.. 😝🤭
I haven’t yet found a consignment shop in my area that ever wants more than one or two pieces I take in. Then, as someone else said, I look around and see that they’re selling Shein. I think they’re trolling me.
Why are they like this now 😂 I stopped selling a few years ago after getting offered like 4$ for a nice pair of hollister jeans, I feel better just trading old clothes with friends and family now
Last time I went the poor teen said, “we don’t take men’s clothes, but we are in desperate need of guy’s clothes.” Make it make sense.
Same thing, too "mature." She wanted teenager guy clothes
Ewwwww lol 😅

Lordy lol
wowsers!

They likely donate the clothes for the tax write off
oh wow you exposed the game plan. they get people in on the premise of being a consignment store, but operate like a donation gift-shop.
@iateanickle wow do you really think that they would be able to get enough tax write off to justify that type of buying and selling😅😅😅 you're delulu

100%! The one time I tried, they only accepted a pair of Levi's that I got from my MOM, YEARS EARLIER -- all the other jeans were super recent
No literally. I went in like 2018 and they had galaxy print crew neck sweaters which were trendy in like… 2012
exactly!! make it make sense?!!?!
yeah because they werent able to sell that when they bought in lmfao so its been sitting on the racks for ten years
but also they make absolutely no sense at this store at all

I lost a lot of respect for my local Plato's Closet when I found they were reselling SHEIN.
HOW?? SHEIN quality is absolute trash. What would even a fair resale price be .... $1?
Yes, please, we need an update on the resell price!!
Damnnnn
Every Plato’s closet I’ve been in is just racks and racks of SheIn
So they won’t accept Old Navy or Target but yes to Shein?? Wow!!

They really do not know what they are doing.
lol yep.
That’s wild your Plato’s was like that especially if they were in style at the time.
Same! I had like 6 pairs of lightly worn American eagle jeans and they took one pair..
@@lizschultz6784I hate to break it to you but that’s not a desirable brand for Plato/buffalo style
@@baby.nay.fair enough, the jeans are pretty high quality so that’s why I was shocked but I could see it …
I had this happen at a Once Upon A Child.
Wtf lmao unbelievable
Delulu 😂😂😂 I’m using that from now on
* Valley Girl accent* It's because it's vintage.
Thats because you dont have the balls to tell people you cant buy their stuff. Grow up
At least I can feel better knowing it was the computer judging me lol
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I have always been curious.
Ah that makes more sense i guess. Theyd turn down Abercrombie and shit back then i was flabbergasted
Thanks for telling us this. It’s just a job after all in the end. It’s not your fault for the place and the system not accepting clothing. I’m sure that was uncomfortable when people just stared after the system said, “no”.
It’s comforting to know it’s the computer system with no taste not me (sometimes) 😅
My thoughts exactly 🧐 💭
Every Plato's Closet must be the same. This exact thing happened to me. They're a used clothing store but employees have the condescending attitude of Rodeo Drive Chanel store staff
😂 Big mistake, big, huge. ~Vivian, Pretty Woman
YES! And the one I went to was run by religious people, and the teenage employees were still B*TCHES...
I’ve had very similar experiences at basically every thrift shop in a more “hip,” gentrified neighborhood
Same. I have never been back.
That's how they train the e.ployee to behave to intimidate the costumer and get the clothes for nothing
So true.. the employees there are rude and the amount of money you get for a bag of good clothes is so ridiculous.
I felt this in my bones! The walk of shame back to the trunk is too real!
I would rather give my clothes to a homeless person or build a bon fire than go sell to Plato’s closet. I don’t donate to goodwill anymore either. 75 cents for a 70$ top only to turn around and see it listed for 30$.
This.
Exactly. I put my clothes on a free shelf rather than sell it for a few cents to someplace that will resell it for way too much.

That's so you'll take 75 cents and leave the rest for free, and they can hang it up and make a huge profit!!!
I agree! Plato’s Closet is extremely picky on what they take it’s ridiculous.

FR!!!! They turned me away for bringing in Jeans…. Said they “weren’t in style” ???
I would still be salty too

How do you find the year something was made? Ive looked on tags and haven’t seen that. Thanks!

Agree. Nothing is worse than totaling up your expenses at the end of the year and realizing you spent over 4500 on clothes alone…that you couldn’t re-sale for 30 bucks. New clothes are the worse investment. Buy a few classics, keep them year after year, and just add a few items each year.

Oh damn... I DESPISE Plato's Closet... this is similar to the experience I've had with them lmao
Ugh that's such a pain to watch...so sad😢....an I love Plato's closet 😮I had no idea they were soo strict
As someone who works in business I would have bought those pants! They should learn every person has a different taste of style.
This is so true. I went to plato closet before and they wanted to give me $1 for a brand new shirt from Abercrombie that was like $50
20 years ago this happened to me. Felt like trash, went and sold plasma instead lol. I did not enjoy being early 20's.
This happened to me at Buffalo Exchange 😭😂
This is weird because I was just talking about Plato's Closet and how my clothes were never good enough for them yesterday!
This is soooo accurate! My teen girls took some clothes in, and almost everything was rejected.
Been there back in the day! So demoralizing. I went to 2-3 places. Needed $30-$40 got $5😆😆 Your clothes are to "mature"😭😭😭
But why does every video you do resonate TOO much with me 😭😆
So accurate THey only take junk
Why are they like this now 😂 I stopped selling a few years ago after getting offered like 4$ for a nice pair of hollister jeans, I feel better just trading old clothes with friends and family now
Fun fact: There were 38 "likes" when I got here, and I was "Like" #39. Same as in the video!
“I refuse to cry in a Plato’s Closet” I felt that
