League City man demands answers after worker was caught on camera rummaging through his apartment

This is a perfect example of why I don't want the maintenance crew, or any property staff in my home when I'm not there to watch them.
That's right
That's common sense. Who would let some strangers in their home when they aren't home?
I never let anyone in my house alone
Why is the perp's face blurred?
@@Rob-yv9og Because he wasn't charged.
He's a damn CRIMINAL! He just didn't see any valuables he wanted to take. How nice to blur his face out and give him privacy, though he didn't give this resident any. Way to go, keep up the bad work.

When my niece was moving into a fancy apartment building, the manager told her that staff never entered residents' units without prior contact and giving a reason. She set up a little interior camera facing her door. The first month she was living there, she was at work and her phone pinged, and she saw the (saved) footage of a maintenance man entering her apartment, spotting the camera, and immediately leaving again. She took the footage to the manager and asked for an explanation, and they didn't have one.
Cowards
Having managed a high end hotel for 8 years and having been victimized the same way, there is TREMENDOUS turnover for apartment, hotel and high rise maintenance workers. It is rare that a maintenance worker will stay longer than three months. For them, some job always, always, always pays more than the one they have. Part of the high turnover is that they know that they did something that they know that they'll get called on and they quit before they can be fired and/or jailed.
Solution: Pay them more

Just HOW would he know if he wasn't trying to get into the apartment that I PAY RENT for?
Yeah, that's some slimey shit.
You have to give the manager a key when you change the locks. Your manager has a right to enter the unit for inspections, maintenance, repairs, etc.. Your lease agreement will usually have something about them having to give you notice before entering the unit. You do not have a right to deny them this access. They have a right to evict you for denying this access. Renting a unit doesn't give you the same rights as the owner or give you a right to deny them their rights.

This is something financial "experts" never talk about when comparing the cost of buying vs renting.
Buying is always the better option. The monthly fee you pay into a house is money you're paying into your own future bank account, and with rising property values you're going to get back 2 or 3 times more than you paid in.
I would have pressed charges... I wonder how many other tenants are missing valuables as he rummaged through their apartments as well... this is only what was caught... imagine what wasn't caught on camera...
this is why I bought a house even though it was extremely expensive to do so. apartment complexes (especially the corporate owned ones) have very extensive and intrusive rules and the leases are over 10 pages long!! Lock the door to your master bedroom or any doors you don't want them to accessing.
Maintenence crew usually have a bump key or master key that will open any of the apartmemt doors. If they don't have a master key they can always make a copy of the key since they have one sittig on the wall in the maintainence room. That's fairly standard for apartments because it's cheaper to replace a lost key than replace the entire lock and you don't have to call a locksmith.
Renters insurance doesn’t replace heirlooms that might get stolen. It only gives you the value. How about the complex running criminal history?
I thought I was losing my mind, my pain medicine ran short 2 months in a row. I couldn’t figure how I had taken 4 weeks worth in 3 weeks, really was weirded out. One day I was at the pool and another tenant mentioned that one of the maintenance men ask him if he could buy pain pills off of him. He REALLY was alarmed because his pain medication was from a procedure a few months ago, and it was stored in his bed side table, not out of in a medicine cabinet, where mine was ON my night stand. And that how we found out one of our most liked maintenance men was addicted to pain meds, I had to file a police report to be filed with the state to prove I wasn’t abusing my medication.

i'd sue the management company for negligence. All reasonable management companies have a staff to accompany any contractor that enters a unit. The reason is protection both ways. Against the contractor not doing the job, false accusations, and the resident for theft and damage. The management company is just plain ignorant and incompetent. This person may have only taken minor items, but expect an associate to return at some future date. I'd also take a closer look at the alarm.

Good luck winning anything when only 2 suckers were taken
It doesn't matter if you are home or not. An unscrupulous person with a master key can go anywhere. Two people should go on any maintenance task. Do the job and leave or get fired, both of them. They need trackers on staff to see what units they enter and why.
Lmao! They blurring his image but don’t blur the image on the mirror lol
When I lived in apartments there have been times when I could hear the maintenance man turning the doorknob on my room door. Luckily I always kept it locked.
I should mention there was no reason for him attempting to enter the bedroom when he was only there to change a filter located in the common area.
One even attempted to enter my apartment pretending to be there on maintenance when there was no maintenance request needed or made.
When I stated that through the door he quickly scurried off.
Anyway, always trust your instincts and never assume every maintenance worker or any other employee has been properly vetted.

The real question here is “how do you let pringles go bad?”
That's super creepy!
When you set out on a panty raid but have to settle for some lollipops and Pringles.
I’m an engineer for a medical facility in New York. Many work orders are tenant driven, and I have to investigate and repair or call on proper service. The background check I went through was very extensive. On top of no stealing we have sensitive information for patients, that under no circumstances, is to be leaked to someone not listed. This video shows why it’s so difficult to schedule home repairs and stuff, you should trust your landlord / property manager, that they hire honest folks. It’s too bad, economy be damned how is stealing from someone else going to help anything!? What happened to the golden rule? 😢
Lawsuit here! You have to change the top lock to your unit! Your safety is more important than the apartment rules about changing locks.

ALWAYS CHANGE BEDROOM/CLOSET DOORKNOBS TO DEADBOLTS. Keep the original apartment cheap doorknobs and switch out before moving out.
I did this EVERYWHERE I moved to. I locked my bedroom/closet doors whenever i wasn't home. Maintenance will go in whenever and locking my bedroom/closet doors was an extra precaution.
