So proud of my son, Alec you are smart, introspective nad right on the money. Drinking is not for everyone, and the way you put it is dead on the money. More importantly, the people who are true friends and want to be in your life, can do so, with or without alcohol as a buffer. Congrats son, I LOVE YOU!!
Cheeeeeeeeee hooooooo!!! Congratulations on one year! That’s awesome! I started with a 30-day goal to chill out, and now it’s been almost 3 years alcohol-free. These days, if it’s not a "hell yeah" for me, it’s an automatic "nope." Alcohol, "friends," commitments-if it doesn’t spark happiness or growth, I don’t invest my time. You are the average of the five relationships you spend the most time with. Why give alcohol a seat at that table? It’s a momentum killer. Whatever direction you go, I hope you keep your life in harmony. Keep inspiring brother.
hi Alec. u probably wont see this but i just wanna say this video probably changed my life. I've been struggling with different habits other than alcohol and hearing you speak about being sober and being more creative and the best version of yourself really spoke to me. I'm inspired and I'm currently on a crazy streak :)
We get caught up in planning the things we do around food and alcohol. I quit drinking a little over 2 years ago and my phone doesn't ring near as much do things like it did before. I lost a lot of " old friends" but I gained so many new ones and this smaller circle with running and triathlons is stronger than any circle I've ever been a part of. Keep it up bro👊 I enjoy your content
Great to hear Alec's thoughts on this. I remember seeing him exclaim 'Brewskies!!' at a reward challenge when he was on Survivor 🤣. Iirc he was a bartender around that time. Then a couple of years ago seeing him mention in an upload drinking with friends maybe once a month so as to not tremendously impact his fitness goals and regime. I particularly like his points at 9:00 about leaning into life and new hobbies. I'd be interested in hearing more in a follow up video about the positives it's had on his overall fitness and physical wellbeing.
This is the best video haha.. Well said and well spoken. Honestly, your 20s is a great time to take a step back. We were all still a little bit insane. Cool thing I've discovered recently (turning 31) with friends getting married and babies, people taking health more seriously... Most social situations involve a picnic or a pool day or a dinner etc... Usually only having a couple drinks these days then you can head on home! 20s was a blur. 30s for the win.
Haven’t drank in 5 months. Listening to Allen Carr’s book on the alcohol trap really helped me and it touches on many of the things you talk about in this video.
I appreciate you sharing your experience & perspective! I grew up in a family of alcoholics and did all my drinking up until age 16 - then I met Jesus and quit bc it was what my heart wanted. But then, I got sucked into all the church rules. Fast forward 15 years, I only drink on occasion. I’m very in tune with what my body needs and it seems like I enjoy drinking for random celebrations & maybe on vaca but I don’t drink more than 2 drinks, typically. It’s been empowering to find what works for me. I genuinely don’t have a desire to overindulge bc I feel like shit! And I like feeling my best. I follow you, bc - hello, Survivor but also, you live a healthy lifestyle. I like seeing people’s mindsets and natural thought processes. You seem in tune with your body & genuine 👊🏼
Thanks for posting this, Alec! I recently quit drinking but still struggle and your analogies are more helpful than anything I’ve come across! I’ve been trying to figure out how to use the time I’ve gotten back from not drinking. I have tons of goals and projects and now after hearing your words and what you’ve done, I feel like it’s time to move ahead and not think so much about what I’ve lost, so to speak, because I’ve lost nothing by not drinking! You really helped. I think you should consider maybe devoting just a channel to this because I think you could help people in an amazing way. I’ve spent money on programs before that haven’t done as much as your 14 minutes have and congratulations on your achievement! Well done!
Though I’m twice your age, we quit at almost the same time. Where I’m at now I have no plans of going back. I found NA beers helped me in the beginning, but I don’t have them as often now. Good video!
This message hit me at a good time. Once a year I'll go out to kona to spectate the ironman WC. Go for some runs, swims. Do some heavy drinking to and feel guilt and anxiety and think, "this drinking version doesn't align with the athlete I inspire to be". I need to grab some athletic brews and find a better version of myself.
I went from drinking 7 days a week to drinking 1 or 2. Now I'm far more aware of the downside when I do have some drinks. I really only like the first one, then I just start feeling worse and worse if I keep going. Then the next day I can totally tell the difference and feel way less motivated. Went to a bbq Sunday, today is Tuesday, and I can still feel the difference.
I used to drink and party just like you between 16 and 25. Since then and I'm 61 I haven't drank other than maybe a bloody Mary or something every 10 yrs. Lol
