    I tend to cry because my childhood was barely a thing with a drug addict father, along with him being an alcoholic, and my sisters abusive dad. My dad had a criminal record of domestic violence, while my mom was known as a toxic bitch who claims no wrong. This mall was where I was always happy, I loved the mall so much, and now I have to watch it decompose. I wish I could go back in time and appreciate the comic store and the mall in all of its glory. But I cannot. I have grown up in Janesville, I moved to fort Atkinson for circa two years. This city/town has been all I’ve known for years, but in the near future the area itself will just decay into history. I know the area so well, but I’m watching it all crash down.

      Interesting, but any update on the Janesville Mall itself and what it looks like as of the present day September 2022. I've always lived in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area which is of course about an hour Northeast of Janesville. However, I visited the Janesville Mall for a blind date with a guy in the early 2010s back when there was a fair amount of activity at the mall as I recall, definitely not in a dying state then. As I only visited once and ditched that date prematurely because the guy had creeped me out (lol), I don't remember much about this mall. But the situation with Northridge Mall here in the Milwaukee area has me questioning the status of that mall and the direction it will take.

    I remember walking with my mom through the Janesville mall… I always had my pretty dresses on, or some other 2000s kid outfits. Now my sisters and I walk through the mall and nearly cry because we know this was our childhood. Over half the stores that were shown here do not exist within the mall anymore. Ex: finish line, justice, the comic store, suit store, tiger lily, t shirt store, popcorn place, Rogers and Holland’s, furry babies, Boston store, Sears of course, bath and body works, American something clothing, etc

    • @hiraethisnthome3253
      @hiraethisnthome3253 3 года назад

      I actually don’t know a lot about the sports complex, don’t even know if it exists, but I do know around Halloween (circa mid august) the spirit Halloween of Janesville is in the old sears! Of course it’s only a small area of the sears compared to the entire space, though. I’m guessing this is both because other events and spirit never being very large. I do think the sears would be an acceptable area for a convention (comic con, expos, or other events that involve “abstract hobbies”.) . Or Janesville could utilize the space for social events, because Janesville is run by conservative old ladies that don’t give a shit about things that didn’t exist or weren’t popular back in their day. And they also want adolescents to be social, so this would just be convenient. But that’s an idea for post-COVID

    Kohls used to be Montgomery Wards, got my first bike there in the early 80's. The hill behind the mall where they put all the dirt, was so big you could see into the drive in theater where Woodmans currently is, I have a memory as a little kid being up there and seeing it, was the hangout spot in the 70's. Then it was an awesome sledding hill.. but it was super steep and you could have too much fun so they destroyed it.... like everything else to do in this town, they ban it, destroy it, shut it down.... no fun is allowed in Janesville.

    • @rpracing4666
      @rpracing4666 8 месяцев назад

      Used to sled there in the 80's. Still can sled there but just on the south slope. Side that faced the mall was closed due to some kids were ending up sledding into the street. If it wasnt a heavily trafficed street they probably wouldnt had cared. In the summer I flew my r/c gliders off it (before the condos went in on the north side). City tried so many times to get stuff for the kids to do, but in the end, the kids destroyed it themselves.

    Anyone wondering why this mall is dying, the owner of the mall is an absolute terrible person. During the Covid crap, he decided to raise the rent on the majority of the business inside. The owner of the building also refuses to work with anyone who wants to set up shop there. Were waiting for someone else to get ahold of the building as its still in fantastic shape for how neglected it gets. Lots of shady shit happens there so no surprise no one wants to rent from him.

    The mall is now even worse, of course. It’s at 40% capacity right now and they’re losing Tiger Lily now due to an increase in their rent. That right there is the reason this mall is dying. Management seems to enjoy chasing their tenants away and it has some people suspicious despite promises of a good future once the woodmans sports complex is built.

      That policy was in place long before the Kohls arson. It dated back to when CBL Properties owned the mall (CBL owns East and West Towne in Madison also along with a bunch of other malls) and put the policy in place in all their malls after a bunch of problem "children" caused a bunch of trouble (ie assaults, robberies, theft). Also the policy only applies to the mall itself, Kids still go into Kohls and Dicks without parents fine. Didnt see any signs up about it at Kohls last month like they do at the malls entrances.

    This city is dumb. GM closing had nothing to do with it. In middle school and in HS before we could drive, parents would drop us off here to hang out on the weekends. Arcades, music stores, popcorn, candy stores, movie theater.... all sorts of fun. They banned that. Bad move as all these kids would soon be shopping and ... well the mall just lost them all.. Same with the downtown circuit, everyone used to cruise there, they banned it in 93.. so no one went downtown and it also died... and they cant figure out why and want to restore it.. If they'd just stop kicking people out and banning them from going places lol.... Idiocracy. They also ruined this mall... used to have sunken sitting areas with plants everywhere, the atmosphere was almost magical as a kid... now the atmosphere is gone, just plain and boring. Zero marketing skills at all.. they lost the common sense aspect of it. Its no longer a desirable place to go. People went to the malls for more than shopping, it was an experience... the experience is all gone... because the new owners and investors are ignorant on the subject.
