0:50 or a global pandemic
Watching from a global pandemic now 05/2020 working at home
Was about to say that 😀
Paused the video to check this comment as soon as he said work from home
True :)
Literally just about to say the same. I'm working from home until next year now due to the pandemic
This aged pretty well
lol
Watching this in 2020: "It also helps us understand what would happen if the office disappeared like it burned down or something. Could everyone work remotely? Could things still happen?"
Well I guess Monzo's figured it out by now X')
0:50-1:00 anticipation skills 100/100
Blurring out your screens I 100% agree with, but blurring out Spotify smacks of guilty pleasures you're not willing to share haha :D
You're an inspiration man. I get so motivated after watching your videos :p Hope you can upload more often.
This is so inspiring.. Monzo seems like the dream company to work for
I love the insightfulness and how you personalise the video with the names of the people you work with it's so much more meaningful and personal. Keep up the good work you give Monzo a good rep. I doubt many other banks would even remotely allow their employees to vlog about them on youtube... It's made me become a customer.
I don't want these videos to stop!
you look like the most responsible 12 year old and for some reason I love it
really enjoying these videos!
Enjoying these vids.
I have no idea why this ended up in my recommendations but I really enjoyd watching these two videos about your experience working as a dev. I also work as a developerer (full stack mostly .Net/Angular) and it's interesting to get someone else's view.
I agree with other comments here. You are an inspiration. And I wish the bank I work for would also let ppl work remotely once every 2 weeks like this. Monzo seems like a good place
Just coming back from your video on Cambridge Queen's interview
You have changed over the years
YESS A JAKE WRIGHT VIDEO!!
Kudos for not actually standing up at the stand up. The concept came out of the idea that people don't like standing so will favour brief over concise. I skipped a few steps on the last bit, but that's how it ended up.
Anyway, it looks like a nice environment. Culture makes a huge difference, all my favourite roles have been in organisations with great culture.
I live for these weeks in life vlogs. Thnku jake
Never knew watching people work at home could be so satisfying ..what have I been doing.
Wait. Are you okay jake? You’re uploading within a week of your last video... 😂
Also hi ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That's alright, they're still 6 months in the past. ;-P
Enjoyed this one too! Please vlog on your trip!
Hey Jake,
I'm just glad to see you check in so soon after your previous video - no matter whether you leave the apartment or not! Doing a short stint in Berlin sounds like a dream - I only wish I could do something similar in my job!
Assuming this video isn't taking place 6 months ago, make sure you get some currywurst while you're in Berlin, and drop by the DDR museum if you have time for touristy stuff.
This is a simply brilliant insight
love these vlogs
Oh, handsome boy posted another Vlog XD
The "A Week in the Life of a Monzo Developer" are something different to watch - thank you!
Watching this during my lunch time at my home office day 😂
Keep doing it. it makes me motivated for Tech Career :) Thanks JAKE
how? Genuinly curious as it looked a dull day to me.
Keep posting jake
My main source of motivation to try and get into the industry nowadays is derived from these vlogs
Hey new to your channel, I like the real content. Lucky you have a work place that’s letting you do this. One thing though your home desk set up needs a bit of work that cabling and all that stuff you had to plug in it hurt my eyes. There’s so really good things you can get to tidy up your work space and not break the bank!
Thanks Monzo is great!
I like ur work station setup.
love this vlogs, hope you do get more WFH days. i would love to do that but for me being in IT Support its hard to do WFH but i do like the office environment better
Love the IKEA lamp at 6:42 . I always get that one whenever I move to a new city haha
I've got that exact lamp on my desk too! haha
Your predictions came true
What ever happened to Cooking with Jake? Can you cook yet?!
Given the Pasta Sauce packets in the cupboard it’s highly unlikely 😣
You look so great on this T-shirt!!!
Hope you enjoyed Berlin. x
Could you make a video on the salary you were getting and what you get now and how comfortable you are living in London
The dude on the All Hands looks like a very proper geek.
You’re the OG Cambridge vlogger XD
I have a question about how to use my keyboard and use all the shortcut without changing the languages I searched for a solution but I didn't find .would you help me? thank you
T
hank you jake for such a useful content, like, share, and subscribe.
5:52 "Which costs about 800 pounds" lol I got a usb-c hub from Kickstarter and it has been working fine, it's so much easier to travel with
Did you go to the graphql event in Berlin? Went to that last year
What playlist at Spotify do you listen while coding?
Tresor on the friday to start the weekend off
Hello Jake frome Morocco really like your vedio
How do you work with the magic mouse? I find it terrible to use.
when did you start coding? and any tips for someone with a little exposure to programming, but not much, and currently in university for computer sci?
What was that black dongle that you plugged your earbuds into?
You said that adapter costs 800pounds? Like it could buy a 2017 macbook air?
Hi jake, just graduated and I’m trying to apply at monzo for a remote position but I’m not sure who to address the cover letter to. Any help would be very much appreciated (and maybe a few pointers too, hehe). Thanks
see you use slack. We use it too at my work and it's lit
Looks like you use Slack quite extensibly.
What do you use to connect the two external monitors?
also what music is this? It's really good, while you're coding.
"if offices disappear one day", And they did
Wow two videos in short time! Jake feeling lonely or no work at office ;)
Do u understand the title of the video at all? 🤔
You didn’t mention the one side effect of working from home..... endless tugs!
Which programming language do you use when you work?
What tech stack do you use on your work? Just curious. 😊
Visit the sony centre in berlin!
I am still on the 800 pounds apple adapter. How and why ?
I love being able to work from home. A couple of years ago when the north had really bad floods our office was basically made redundant and everyone had to work from home during repairs. It was a shock for those who always worked from the office but great that we could all pick up where we left off without too much disruption. I only recently discovered your channel, I've watched loads if your videos and keep getting ads about start ups and remote office spaces!
The guy with the wool hat made me chuckle. Interesting dress code you’ve got there. 😄
Most places are doing away with dress codes now. I worked in a large bank in Australia and they introduced a "Dress for your day" code a few years ago. If you had no important meetings or any customer facing stuff you could wear shorts and a tshirt if you pleased.
These changes are a must as conventional corporate environments move more towards tech and want to attract top tech talent out of university etc... Good Engineers are in high demand and if they have the choice between going to work for a cool tech company or be chained to a desk and wear a suite every day, what do you think they will choose?
So therefore older companies are overhauling their culture to try and compete before they all die out.
cool... I work with same business back in 2018.. we are using .net
Are you guys using any ML to make the loan lending decisions?
no PM present for the StandUp?
what PM software ?
Dam, I thought if there is a work from home day we would get to see Jake in his boxer shorts.
when you go to Berlin is that done like a business trip so expensed and stuff or you're going on your own and just working remotely?
atomek1000 he might be going there on company expense and not his ....
Do monzo have google standards for hiring or is it like any other medium sized business?
Important issue here... it looks like your bread doesn't fully fit in your toaster. Is your bread long, or is your toaster short?
Really got so much motivated by your cooking🤣🤣🤣🤣
I might comment this again but will really appreciate if you can make a cooking video...
Wish you a good flight bro👍👍
Edited:your cooking kinda reminds me of myself🤣🤣🤣
You lead a Scrum call quite confidently...well done.
Jake how did you learn how to code ?
what is the track at 10:28? Shazaam not picking it up :(
is it claudio just your flatmate?
BTW, Where is Claudio? I think he should be at the apartment and miss him
So you are working like credit control?
Watching this on holidays in Berlin 😨
Did he say that the adapter costs 800 pounds?
Where is Claudio tho?😏
Mister Handsome!!
agile seems cool :)
Is that Pickle Rick on your pin board?!! :)
I’m curious- what gear are you using to shoot these vlogs?
Links are in the description
What to do to be like you?
the fact you leave half the toast untoasted made me comment this and then click the youtube icon and find some other random video to watch
How do different Mac screens pop up, if you only have one Mac, I need an explanation. Explain to me like a layman
Rithvik Gujjula it’s just multiple monitors. Extending the display across several physical screens.
It’s old school technology these days. I can’t imagine working without at least two. (Ideally 3/4).
Why is your toaster so small?
His flat looks so fucking nice. Anyone know where this is?
Working till 9pm... what a wonderful life.
0:14 BOO!
where are you? usa, england?
You need a bigger toaster or smaller slices of bread :) Great video
Is your work MacBook Pro a 13” or 15”? Also what specs do you run?
We get a choice between 13" and 15". I have a 13" 2017 MBP, 3.5GHz i7, 16GB memory, Intel 650 graphics.
Jake Wright thanks for replying! I’m late joining your channel, but really enjoying your videos and very motivational.
If you were to choose again, would you still pick the 13” model? Or go for the 15?
@@ChompPlaysFifa I'd still go for the 13" because it's easier to carry around
Every Wednesday People gather to present what they have been working on so, is that like the Scrum meeting or something else?
