1st!🤣🧶
I collect and repair antique purses. All beaded, loomed, crocheted, embroidered, leather and metal ones. I am also a Bead artist. When you have a bead on your string that is mis-shapened all you need to do is take a pair of pliers and smash the bead, that breaks off and you keep crocheting. Also, they would have used silk purse twist, which acts very different from cotton crochet thread. Your difficulties are more often due to the cotton thread. You made a very nice finished product. And for those that think this would never work in modern day, you are right. There was not a need to carry ID, large car key fobs, pen & paper, cell phones or even a large amount of money or credit cards. So a small purse is perfect. now a project bag is a different animal and does need to be larger. There were also shopping bags (think our reusable shopping bags) that were often crocheted or fabric in construction.
This was fun to read! Thanks for sharing your expertise!
now im curious on how the shopping bags looked!
Ah! But they didn't need big purses when they went around carrying big pockets. :) Where do you find silk in purse twist?
Heck YES I can see someone holding up a supermarket line so they can tie their Victorian coin purse closed! And I'd hope to be the person right behind them so I can say, "Oh my goodness, that is so cute. Did you make that yourself?!"
You might have forgotten, in the UK what we call a purse is for holding money and generally kept in a handbag (what you call a purse). You did a great job with the pattern and so much more patient than me with beadwork. I tried it once, and I had the beads on the coffee table, the dog wagged her tail at the door knocking, three months later I'm still finding beads 😅😅😅
Exactly the reason bead work isn’t for me lol! I’m too clumsy even without a dog 😂😂😂
My mother would say “ you wouldn’t notice it on a galloping horse”
Mine said "you won't think of it on your wedding day"
Yup…but in my house it was my dad…”a man on a galloping horse will never notice”…thanks for the reminder…sigh
My grandmother called it a fly on a galloping horse. Lol
When I get beads stuck I’ll use plyers or hammer very lightly smash them. Sometimes cuts thread so you have to be careful. Maybe put towel between
Yeah! I usually use my jewelry pliers and break the bead. You have to make sure to not use so much force so you don't break your thread
I was screaming "THEY'RE GLASS! JUST BREAK THEM!" LOL
I do the same just break the bead off with small pliers.
This! Sometimes if they're not bad you can force them apart with your fingernails, otherwise yeah, crush gently with some pliers.
It looks just fine to me!❤
These beaded crochet projects are just so elegant. I do hope you will be doing more of them.
I’m so glad you went back to putting your music back in your vintage videos. It just makes it so much more back in that time. So thank you again 😄❤️🫶✌️
Glad you enjoy it!
I do enjoy the soothing music.
I've never crocheted with beads and -- in all honesty -- i probably never will. But this was very pretty and dainty.
Very pretty "little" long bag.
Can I recommend you going to Elena Rugel Crochet. She does a lot of bead work in her patterns and you can watch her to see how to make that 1st wrap with the bead like it said to in the pattern. I think it will make more sense to you after you watch her for just a few minutes. There's nothing "wrong" with what you did and you made it work "Corrinna style" but it might not work well for you in another project doing it the way you did.
I'm not griping at you!!! You are amazing and I love ya like a little crochet daughter. I hope you have "known me" long enough to know that but wanted to make it clear for anyone else reading this, too.
❤️🧶😅
Corinna, in the future if you have one bead that is unusable, take a pair or pliers and crush the bead. They break really easy!
Everything you make is magical and it's so hard to learn and try new things directly on camera. You are doing great.
Wow! I have a lot more appreciation for my grandmothers beaded bags!!
Gorgeous purse. Just a tip from a beader, if I needed to break a bead, I would get a push pin (from the noticeboard) and an eraser. You put the eraser under your work and gently push the pin into the bead and the eraser at the same time. This saves your thread from breaking.
The long beaded purse would make a nice phone purse. This little one is cute.
Great idea.
My husband's mother used to spend the 1st day 'beading' her tiny black silk crochet thread. They didn't even start the pattern until they had a 5 gallon bucket full. She made some of the most beautiful jewelry ever worn. I never had the chance for her to show me. And she made bead bags as well. Thanks for sharing. A lot of the older patterns were written with the assumption that everyone knew how to crochet. My grandmother put my 1st hook in my hand when I was 5 years old. I made a scarf😮 and yes I still have the needle. Good old Susan Bates!
That pattern at first I thought would make an awesome sleeve cuff embellishment to see on the ends of a 3/4 sleeve or on a business blouse.
Look cute on the christmas tree with chocolate coins or sweets in .
Good idea.
The filet row would be pretty with a ribbon woven through. Very pretty pattern!
I had never crocheted with beads till I watched you do it. Love your content!!
I’ve never seen beading with crochet. That stitch combo is really! Cute!
Corinna, the next time you do a beaded video, can you please show us how to go about adding or lessening beads. I started the last beaded purse & I’m stuck with that pattern.
Thank you for all you do. You’re so sweet & awesome. ✌️🫶
Yes, please. This is my problem.
I have a video on here of a Fluer De Lis beaded bad and I show how to string the beads in that video
That’s the pattern I’m stuck on, I guess I meant when you need more beads in the middle of the pattern. I did watch you do it at the beginning, and I did that, but I ran out of beads & I’m stuck in the middle of the pattern because I don’t know how to add the beads.
Thank you so much for responding to my text Corinna.
Usually to add more beads you cut the thread (end of the row/round is easiest) add beads to new thread and start your next row/round, just like if you were changing colors or starting a new ball of yarn
@@katfisher2668 thank you so much.
This started out as a "trust the process" and IT PAID OFF!!! Now in my foreseeable future, there WILL BE beads and MORE STRING/YARN 😊😊
You could also crochet a round cord with gold thread to close it with and add tiny gold tassels to the ends of that cord. Such a sweet pattern and the double stacked beads just make the look without complicating the pattern. Nicely done girl!
It's such a cute little purse. I probably would have made many more rows and folded it on the horisontal instead of the vertical, just to make it bigger. Run a ribbon through the top row of open work
I love beaded work, it's just beautiful! I'm so glad you shared this, I was so excited when I saw the title of the video. 😍 PS that is the cutest lil coin purse ever!!!
That purse is beautiful, I'd use it daily but to hold doggy bags.
I can’t imagine working with thread. I think I would be SO frustrated but you’ve inspired me. I just might try (maybe😂). This was so delicate & feminine. I love it!
Oh Corina, what a cute coin purse! The ladies of that era would have been so jealous! As always, you did a wonderful job…😊
I'd use it as the FRONT of the bag, and then make the opposite side something that's tightly crocheted ... it's a gorgeous little piece
As a strip it would make lovely cuffs and collar for an evening jacket.
cute cute cute ... I hope you do take it shopping with you and whip it out at the till, then please give us feedback on how many people commented on it 😁
I'm both a crocheter and a bead weaver. Now, I've never done beaded crochet, I make beadwork jewelry. One thing about those seed beads (that's what they are called, in case you didn't know), most of them are made of glass. It's not difficult to break those beads if you need to. Also, if you have a jewelers phillip's head screwdriver, it's possible to break those beads apart without breaking the actual beads. It's the gold coating on them that has 'glued' them together... inserting a tiny screwdriver in between the two, and pressing gently, should separate them.
I can't wait to see what this actually is! It looks a little small to be a beaded bag. Perhaps it's supposed to be a Lady's card holder! You said it was a vintage European pattern. Well, back in the day, when High Society reigned, and young ladies were launched onto society (think the marriage markets of long ago), it was a custom for young ladies and their matrons to call on High Society Matrons, in the hopes of gaining favor. Sometimes, when these women came to call, the Matron of the House would be out, so the visiting ladies would leave calling cards. This way, when the Matron returned, she would know who had visited her in her absence, and she would choose which visits to return. It was customary to carry these calling cards in a Lady's reticule, but they would need some way to keep them contained within. Considering the small size, it's possible this is a calling card holder, which could now be used for a business card holder, with in one's purse! It's just a thought.
Okay, I was wrong, it was a purse, but I could see making a business card holder out of that pattern! It could work!
Ya know....with bigger yarn and bigger beads...that would make a lovely summer shawl
This is beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍 I don't think you need to stop getting "round" and "row" confused, victorians pattern use the term interchangeable all the time😂
This is the cutest little coin pouch everrrr. Love love love! I’m so so jealous of how good you can interpret and read a pattern this hard. You’re so talented! Keep up the good work 🤍❤️
Thank you so much!!
Super cute, C! Love it, love you. I hope you have an excellent day friend. Hugs (Oh, I finally went to the eye doctor when I couldn't hold my arms out long enough anymore! 🤣)
My goodness that is SO cute! Beautiful work!
That is SO ADORABLE. I love it!
wow...i love vintage crochet 😇😇🥰🥰
This is interesting cuz this is the first video i have seen that shows how to do beads. Granted i havent looked for it but thank you. I love your videos!
The small size makes a nice sachet bag. To put nice smelling herbs and spices in.
Really enjoy listening to your videos while I work on my own project
Love it!!!! I especially liked that the pattern used beading with double crochet stitches. The patterns I've used and seen have used single crochets. One problem with the coin purse, especially if left unlined, is that coins and bills are shockingly dirty (actual physical dirt, oils, etc.). So you either have to wash the purse (hand wash, use detergent), or launder the money (ha!).
It would be cute to give with lipsticks. Cute bag.
Cute pouch thanks. Haven't used coins in a decade but the pouch could be used for so many things.
Such a creative idea!!! I love the mystery aspect of it! Makes for a really engaging watching experience:)
I am learning so much watching you experiment. This helps me understand the principles of crochet
Wonderful!
This would be gorgeous border on a silk scarf
I teally like this! I think I'll make one for my vintage kidskin opera gloves.
I had a thought! When sewing with beaded fabric if you don't want to risk sewing over beads when doing a seam, you crush them with a hammer or pliers.
With your joined bead problem (if you ever run into that again) you can just crush them off the string rather than re-thread. They're glass so it should work okay!
It’s so delicate and pretty.
I've done this type of work before. What I did was break the bead off by using small pliers. Just don't break it from the sides. Pinch it from the hole ends, and that way, there is less of a chance of damaging the thread. Also, another tip is to string on more beads than you need. It's better to have some left over then to have to add them later and have a knot in your way. Hopefully, this helps. ❤
This is such a beautiful piece. I know you found the ribbon but it doesn’t do the bag justice (to its beauty). Lovely work.
Beautiful little coin purse. I have knitted little beaded bags but never crocheted with beads.
The green ribbon goes great with the gold beads. What a wonderful find!
Really sweet little purse. Could be repurposed nowadays for earbuds or charging cable
I love how you do what you do! When I "read" a pattern, it's always just a guess as to what is meant by the limited words, or weird wording. I usually just make things up as I go along until I like my results. Cheers!🧶
Very, very cute.
Oh my goodness! What a cute little coin purse! beautiful! I love watching u crochet to see what the mystery crochet is going to be. Keep the videos coming.
Very pretty!
Old patterns are like this are so confusing to me. I tried to follow one in a book from my mother and my brain could not compute. I had to draw a diagram for myself before I understood.
I'm crocheting along with you on a different project, but mine's going to be pretty big. I don't think I would be able to make some so small and fine, so good job.
I have crocheted with beads. So pretty and never had a problem.
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed the video. I'm in Scotland UK and learnt to crochet from an American RUclips channel so when trying an old (uk) pattern I worked keeping American translation not knowing we were different. I still crotchet American because it makes sense to me. The purse is beautiful and the tutorial was so well done, I must add some beads now exciting stuff. Thank you so much and one other thing, your choice of music is the best. What a gem of a channel 💖
I'm with u there. I'm in England and US terms just makes more sense! I mean single means one so in UK terms why is a single crochet a double, its just mad lol! 😂
I have watched several of these, she does wonderful work but nothing I’d care to make! Cute but too much work ! Glad she likes it 💕
I love to put beads on my scarves, not a lot, just a twinkle every now and then.
A Victorian reticule wouldn't have held very much. Some coins, calling cards, smelling salts, hankie and maybe some opera glasses. They didn't need the carry on size purses of today. Very cute!
That is super, super cute!
I think that’s absolutely beautiful 😻
This would make a lovely neck choker, which were worn often in Victorian times, or an edging on a garment, like a cuff, length/width adjusted
That is proper cute, well done.
So pretty! I love it❤
Oh, that is so cute!!
I just love your videos - your confidence and ability to share every aspect (mistakes, etc) has given me a bit of fearlessness in projects. Thank you and keep on keeping on!!!!!
I just ordered some thread and beading needles (already have the beads) because I was thinking of doing some beading crochet. I had no idea what to make and then your video popped up. Thanks for sharing this project. I think I am going to try it!
Fantastic! You’ve got patience and talent and I so appreciate your hard work bringing us these fun and historic crochet creations!🙏💜
My grandmother and my mother made me a few of these over the years for my lunch money😊
You have so much more patience than me. I'm currently making on and off a simple shell stitch centerpiece with size 10 crochet thread and a #7 hook (you're correct, it is 1.65 mm). I do have a #9 hook, but I haven't gotten brave enough to try to use it yet, much less adding beading to it.
By long purse they are probably referring to whats often called a "miser's purse" which is a long thin sausage shape bag with the opening in the middle and a pair of rings around, which are important as closures and tassels at each end, both rings and tassels being mentioned in the pattern. Engineering knits knitted a miser's purse and demonstrated its rather interesting method of working 😊
Very cute! Well done! (Even small 😉)
I think I have to do a beaded project now. I thought this already with the fleur d'lis bag. It looks very pretty. I think I would have made a flap and close it with a beutiful button or a peace of juweliery. I am so happy I found your channel, not even that you entertain me but I also learn so much. Thank you.
Such a perfect lil coin purse and the colors are just lovely for it
Fantastic job. Amazing to watch. You are a true master of your craft 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
That would be fun for a gift card holder
This is a super cute purse!
Short or long❤😂👍
Completely unrelated, but I love your nails in this video 😊
I made several different bags with beads in my younger days, when i could still see!! I love beads & i love crocheting!! They were so much fun. Now i would have to use pony beads, walmart yarn, & a K hook!! 😅😅😅😅
That is adorable 🥰
Such delicate work! Beautiful ❤️
So pretty ❤
Love this pattern!!! I also love the way you do your tutorials! Thank you for sharing this with us!
You can do the beading on the front. Pull the 1st bead up in front of th hook.yo locks the bead in place. Same with the 2nd bead. It doesn't really matter if it's front or back, as long as consistent.
That's really pretty 🤩. N easy enough to remember how to make a long purse 👜. Or make a plain (no filets) back to attach 🤔🙃. Possibilities are endless 😊
I don't read comments or forward through the video, so I can try and guess.
I know what this is!!
So cute!
A "bunch" of beads was probably what is known as a "hank" of beads, which is 10-12, 20 inch strands of prethreaded beads. (Pre-threading ensured the buyer of threadable beads with centered holes.)
I love it, it's so cute.
As someone else said, just use a needle nose, or chain nose (jewelry) pliers & gently squeeze the bad bead to break it. Cover the bead as it breaks, for safety.
Love the pattern and as always you are a wonderful teacher. I want to say too that I love the background music because it’s calming.
So cute. I tried to crochet in my late 20s, it hurt my hans so much, as did knitting, but may now, I turnt 71 today, I could try again. You make it look easy. I have watched one other of your mystery patterns, so interesting. It was the hat with the “feather”.
Try using compression gloves. My Mum uses them and says it really helps ease the pain in her hands. Good luck, and happy birthday.
@@OopsCrochetthank you! I actually have a pair for when the pain is just more than an annoyance. Way back when, I doubt there was such a thing.
Digging thru pony beads to string some up….Don’t think I’ve got the patience for those tiny beads and fine yarn. 🧡🧡🧡
