Friend: "what are some books you've read?"
Me: *forgets everything I have ever read*
This kills me to the core, like i say i like fantasy, they ask what I’ve read, and all i can think of is HP and Percy Jackson 😅
Roses215 N OMG SAME!!! Once a staff in a bookstore asked me what i usually like to read and I was like "......uhhh fantasy?" "What kind?" *mind goes blank* "....percy jackson....?" And i'm an adult fantasy mania...
Unique BookNerd Yesss 😂😂😂
Unique BookNerd lol same!😂
SO TRUE
The Biggest Fear In The Life Of A Reader :
" Not Able To Read Every Book In The World "
Shinchan's Funny Vines true
Very true. But we can spend so many wonderful hours attempting to! ;-)
Omg I have had these moments so many times when it suddenly hits me that there is not enough time for me to read all the books in the world and life is so short 😰😰😰
Taylor Kairi That had better not happen!
Shinchan's Funny Vines its just soooo heka true and it kinda hits my head EVERY day
I hate when a non reader asks for a book recommendation, so you recommend something amazing.. but then you worry they wont like it, and they will never want to pick up another book. Its almost like its your job to get them to like to read with ONE single book.
I always recommend... *forgets every book ever*
+AnnaBooks 18 LOL
Me when I recommend books
Literally me
My struggle with recommending books is that I recommend books to people and they never read them because no one I know likes reading 😅
Crayonfactory same
Crayonfactory same
Sameeee3
Crayonfactory
I recommend literally every book I’ve ever read and books I know I’m gonna like
I have a book buddy in college, means we mostly talking about books whenever we met and now that we've graduated we're just keep DM-ing on instagram whenever one of us post a story about the books we read
The true struggle is that too many people recommend me books and I have no time to read them :(
kittyyourock same here
Stop limiting yourself. You don't have to read it in one sitting or even daily. Reading is something you should enjoy and be able to practice it at your terms. Just carry a book with you wherever you go and boom - train, bus, taxi ... hundred pages seem like nothing. You could also make it a ritual to read one to three chapters before going to bed or after waking up in the morning.
@@jameslampley1689 i am 14 so i cant spent so much money but my routine is two or three book every month and if i requsest tooooo much 5 book but at my birthday i am gone ask like i dont wanna celebrate just give me a book and i just started reading from like 8 months so my book shelf is preety empty
It gives me such anxiety to think about all the amazing books that will come out after I’ve passed away. I wish I could read everything, too! 😭
ARRRGGGHHH SAME. I am *highly* concerned about my books. What's going to happen to them when I die? Like, I can't imagine them going to some else for some reason. *forever cries*
Manasa M
THEY SHALL GO IN MY GRAVE SURROUNDED BY BUBBLEWRAP AND MARBLE SO THEY ARE KEPT SAFE
I have anxiety attacks like every week just staring at my books and guessing their future. I want to keep them all forever but I know my parents will be like, ”You gotta get rid of some!” BUT YOU DONT GET IT, MOM. I LOVE THEM ALL AND WILL NEVER GET RID OF THEM. I CANT DO THAT TO FINNICK AND RON AND MINHO AND LETS NOT FORGET JODEE BLANCO
Manasa M omg i thought i was the only one thinking this!!
beabookworm don’t worry you can read them in Heaven
Why not take a photo of your bookshelf? Then you can simply look at the photo when recommending a book, but the titles have to be clear, of course.
Reese Sasing The Army is everywhere😂
Helen Keller true, true 😂
ARMY POWERHOUSE FANDOM. HELLOUR ARMIES
I use the app bookbuddy. It lets you scan and organize everything so easily.
Reese Sasing that's exactly what I thought and another army here🙋
I'm basically the opposite hahaha I just start ranting and rambling and by the end I'm scared I put them off any of the 1000000 books i just mentioned ahhh
Athroneofbooks I can ramble about books if I have at least one person who likes it too.
The Start Of Me And Books If I'm reading a book ill start rambling to myself but not when I finish.
I'm too much of a coward to recommend books. I always think my conversation would be like this:
Me: Hey you should check out *insert book here*
Fwend: Why?
Me: Because reading is good for you
(Not really) Fwend: Meh no thanks, that book is too thick for me *stares at phone*
Me: *All around me are familiar covers, lonely covers.... Unread covers.....*
Da Dragon Durp omg, that made me laugh so hard 😂😂
Da Dragon Durp lol aw those poor covers :(
Da Dragon Durp ❤
Da Dragon Durp i sure hope I was supposed to read that last part singing Mad World XD cause that's what I did
ME TOO-
I've been trying to recommend books to my mom and sister for YEARS but pretty much gave up. My sister doesn't like reading period, but when she does it's only autobiographies, the "REAL" books I avoid like the plague lol I'm the opposite I only read fiction! Plus for my mom it's difficult because most of my favorites have sex scenes in them and I know my mom would not like reading smut haha she's super conservative. Or they are too "scary" for her (like every Cassandra Clare book, my favorites of all time, she refuses to read about demons). So I'm at a loss. That's why I go on booktube to discuss books!!
freeleigh If your mom is a Christian tell her to check out the Cape Refuge trilogy and tell your sister to read The Family Nobody Wanted.
Georgia Low yeah shes a super Catholic haha always reading the bible. Thats why she never has time for the fiction books i always try to get her to read. But ill give it a go, thanks!
Ur profile pic is of shadowhunters
Yeah same. Like everyone around you and me are not into reading fictions. 😂😭
I love recommending The Lunar Chronicles!! As well as the Passenger duology 😍
who else watches booktube videos rather than reading.....
no one???
I am really guilty
Doing for one year now 😂😂😂
The Book Thief is my go-to, as is The Lunar Chronicles. =)
The School for Good and Evil series is my go to recommendation. READ IT JESSE READ IT!!!!
Dodo Pink what it is about?? Pls tell ..
I actually read that series off of a recommendation
My friend told me to read these books after she saw me read The Goddess Girls series (because both books target younger readers. I'm not a younger reader, but I hate books specifically made for people my age. They are so dull and predictable (in a bad way)). I'm reading book one now and I LOVE IT! I'm glad I started the series now instead of when it first came out. Now, while everyone is waiting for book 6, I'm here enjoying books 1-5 as well as the handbook.
Tae's Tea The main protagonists are two girls, named Sophie and Agatha. It starts in a village, and every four years two people get kidnapped and taken to The School for Good and Evil. There are two castles, one for good and one for evil. (I know this is late, so you might of read it already, but I don’t want to spoil anything so here’s a vague and brief description)
ItsAni_mals :3 I might read it
My go to is Red queen. I got every girl in my class to read it. It’s all my friends and I talk about.
I always recommend Harry Potter and Rick Riordan books.
TRUE. LIKE. Friend: I'm looking for a book to read, any suggestions? Me: HECK. WHAT ARE BOOKS??? or like, *thinks of all the awkward love scenes or all the cuss words and be like* UHM... i don't think you'd like the books I read... *nervous laugh* The books I ALWAYS recommend is the Lunar Chronicles series and Between Shades of Gray and Salt to the Sea (both by Ruta Sepetys) AND the Michael Vey books.
Jasmine Grace 50 shades of gray are a copy of Twilight
hina zainab No "BETWEEN Shades of Gray" is a historical fiction novel by Ruta Sepetys about (if I remember correctly) a Polish girl who is put in a concentration camp in WWII. It's really good!
Mhm. SUCH a good book! I ugly cried over it... it was a wonderful experience lol.
I recently read salt to the sea! I really liked it, but its not my kind of books
Omg yes Salt to the Sea
You're so relatable! 😂 After recommending a book I'm always like: 'Oh my god,WHAT HAVE I DONE? Why didn't I recommend one of these fifty other books that are so much better?!'
I recommend ACOTAR to everyone.
JESSE'S NEW VIDEO!!! 💙
For me someone will be like " that looks good" and asks what's it about and if they can read and I'd say sure but then I'd remember some smutty scene and try to rescue the book😂
I always recommend The Secret History by Donna Tartt, not only is it my favorite book but I really find it to be amazing, I can't stop rereading it! (One time I went to a bookstore and the owner was trying to convince someone to buy it but I thought he was doing it all wrong so I couldn't help but interrupt him and tried to explain my version of things, I could see the urge on the person's face when I was finished to go and buy it, the owner then said thanks to me somewhat reluctantly, it was really funny)
+Morgane KRAUTH I've been wanting to read that book!
What are you waiting for then ? :p
Morgane KRAUTH omg, that is soo awesome.i wish i could have a chance to explain and make a person to buy a book
This is gonna be fun because I'm starting my apprenticeship to become a librarian this September. I gonna have to do recommendations job wise. This is fine. Not. Well halfway. I'm actually excited for the apprenticeship. Also I need to get back into reading almost 24/7 again. (Had quite the reading slump for a long time.)
Loved the video, Jesse! :3 Your bookish videos are always great!
OMG i do like your personnality soooo much! You are hilarious!
"What’s your favorite book?"
"Oh, that’s easy, Fifty Shades Of Gray"
"Oh, I forgot to do the dishes!" 😂
Thank you for recommending some great books to us. I'm still going through some of the book series you've recommended in previous videos, and now I would like to recommend a few to you, Jesse. Here are a few book series that you might not have heard of, but at the same time, I think you might enjoy them.
I recommend the Waterfire saga by Jennifer Donnelly.
Book 1: Deep Blue
Book 2: Rogue Wave
Book 3: Dark Tide
Book 4: Sea Spell
I also recommend the Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman (I know what you're thinking, and no, these are not rip-offs. In fact, they were published years before Clare wrote her books)
Book 1: City of Masks
Book 2: City of Stars
Book 3: City of Flowers
Book 4: City of Secrets
Book 5: City of Ships
Book 6: City of Swords
The Study series by Maria V Snyder
Book 1: Poison Study
Book 2: Magic Study
Book 3: Fire Study
Book 4: Shadow Study
Book 5: Night Study
Book 6: Dawn Study
And finally, I also recommend the Pellinor series by Alison Croggon
Book 1: The Naming
Book 2: The Riddle
Book 3: The Crow
Book 4: The Singing
Book 5: The Bone Queen
There are more series, but I think this is decent for now.
My go to recommendation is "East." By Edith Pattou. I've read it so many times my librarians look at me funny when I check it out for the 30th time. I've been reading it since elementary school :)
My goto recommendation is the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown or the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare 👌😍
Go to recommendation is Skulduggery Pleasant. It has a bit of action, romance, drama, mystery and all that jazz to get around to everyone. Plus extensive humour and characters you just love.
But I thought we weren't supposed to buy books..
Isbz Burns truueeee
Paradox
Life is confusing
I've heard of this place where you can get books for free (I've never been) but it's called a library 😊
Redback Spider but I don't get to keep them and I know other people have touched my baby
People always ask me for recs, so one day I sat down and made a list of every book I love and have kept updating it. So now when people ask I can just send my list! I've actually had quite a few people use it and it's so cool when they come back having liked one of them :)
The Shadowhunter Chronicle By: Cassandra Clare. I know it’s a long one but there are very important to me. Much pike how John Green help you back into the reading world, Cassandra Clare help me find it in the first place. These were the first books I read that hit me up side the head and told me about this whole other book world that didn’t involve series like Harry Potter or the Hungry Games.
I love this guy! He has such great energy and he's entertaining to watch. Love your videos!! (I love the miss peregrine book 😀)
HAHAHAHAHAAAAA THIS VIDEO IS SO FUNNY😂😂😂😂
Also Jesse has the best outro I say ut with him every time he ends a video😂❤
I will always recommend percy jackson and The Alchemist by Michael Scott
Great video! I quite agree, recommending books is a struggle haha. I also feel super anxious whenever someone says they're going to buy a book I recommended.
Love your videos jesse :)
Between shades of gray and everything everything are two of my go tos!
Hi! I recently got Geekerella and started reading it. I'm so glad I did, I love it! :)
I always recommend "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" since it's my favourite book of all time, it's A M A Z I N G, and it makes you feel all the feels
Awesome! ♡
I’ve just recently made a recommendation video and it was so hard!!! I found my go to to include were some of my underrated faves but normally for fantasy Throne of Glass or ACOTAR
Hey, Jessie an idea! Take a picture of your bookcase so you can look at it when recommending books!
Whenever I recommend a book, I feel like they're never going to actually read it...usually because they don't
The Outsiders!
Jesa Burgoyne i love that book so much
I was going to comment that
That ending broke me
I agree, it’s so much pressure to recommend! I do usually ask what kind of books they like, but I would say my go to rec books are: Ready Player One, Six or Crows, The Hate U Give, and Mistborn.
SOO RELATABLE!
you should read Warriors by Erin Hunter just to recommend it UwU
i have never thought of it that way oh well thanks for adding more anxiety to my anxiety bookshelf.
I like to ask for book recommendations. It’s nice to see how that might make someone feel
I just realized that Jesse and I share some common book interests. Gotta read all the books he recommends 🤗
I have three go to recommendations; Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy, Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak, and Timekeeper by Tara Sim. The latter two because they're fantastic and I need people to talk about them with, the former because it's my favourite series of all time.
Ayy!!!Jesse plsss...do a bookshelve tour !! I we want to see the monster you created 😀😁
I always recommend “The mame of the wind"!! They either secretly refuse to read it because it is so long or love it!!!
I'm really thinking of starting a book tube channel, and I want you to know you're my inspiration. I love reading and watching your videos and they just help me so much so I've been thinking of making a channel. I'm home a lot because of some medical conditions I have so I thought it'd be fun. If I make any video similar to yours I will obviously credit you. I love you!!
one of my fav book series are the Divergent series and i highly recommend them. that and the Lunar Chronicals of course (:
I usually recommend The Nightingale, We Are The Ants or the book I'm currently reading if I love it!
I really can relate to this video.
So true💓
Great video, Jesse! ❤😙❤😍❤
My go-to recommendation depends on what your favorite genre is. 🤣🤣🤣
But. . .
1) Fantasy/Urban Fantasy: the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews ❤
2) Fantasy/Epic Fantasy: The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss ❤
3) Romance: Absolutely, Positively by Jayne Ann Krentz (fave book; romantic suspense) or Getting Rid of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie (romantic comedy) ❤❤
4) Mystery: Whose Body? by Dorothy L. Sayers or And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie ❤❤
5) Nonfiction: Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell ❤
6) Middle-Grade: Fablehaven (book one and series) by Brandon Mull ❤
7) YA: Cinder/the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer ❤
^^^ Those are my go-to recommendations! ❤❤❤❤❤
the Martian by Andy Weir is definitely my Go-to recommendation book! It caters for a lot! Its for those who enjoy sarcastic, smart, and hilarious characters, or for those who enjoy the science fiction genre, or for those who enjoy the thrill, suspense, action, and the scientific problem-solving aspect to it, or for those who simply enjoy the adventure of a book, or for those who are simply just beginners to the science fiction genre. I most definitely recommend the audiobook version as well as the narrator did such a great job in giving life, tone and suspense appropriate to the book.
I relate to this so hard core. I always recommend A Darker Shade of Magic because I just want the world to read it.
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL 😭
Okay, so I am on a reading slump and need a page-turner to get me back into it. Its been like 2 weeks since I've finished a book but before that i would read like 3 long-ish books a week. I am obsessed with fantasy like throne of glass is my bae, Robin Hobb is also one of my favourite authors, any suggestions?? (p.s I am not a fan of contemporaries, I might read an urban fantasy though).
You can carry your bookshelf around in your pocket! I mean... not visually... unless you take a picture I guess? But there's an app called Libib where you scan in books and it stores them in a list in your digital library on the app! I love it! :D
I swear I don't work for them or get anything out of telling people about it -haha! I just really like it. :)
Currently the two books I gush about are Fangirl or Words in Deep Blue. I have tons of other favorites but those are the most recent that have stuck with me after reading them.
Yess Ready player one and The night circus are my go to recommendations
The struggles is that when I recommend a book to someone and then they're like "so you have that book right? Just let me borrow it" and im like ofc i have that book but i dont want to lend them bc you probably destroy it(?) *i know its cruel* and then i just reply "ok remind me tomorrow" but then i just constantly (act) forget to bring the book bc i dont want my precious babies in another people's arm okay 😥
My go-to recommendation is probably the Mistborn series... but if I think the person might be intimidated by that then I might also suggest the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews :) but it really does depend on the person which makes it soooo hard!
I am loveing your favorit book
I will always trust you
Will you make a video with all your book mark collection??????😃😃😃😃
I always recommend The Hunger Games
Sudeeksha Dasari same
Oh I hate recommending books so so much, I tend to forget all the titles too so now I always go to my goodreads and then recommend :D I also hate recommending my favs cuz if the person does not like it they always feel obligated to tell me how much they disliked the book and blaaah hate that :D online I usually just say go to my goodreads page and you will see all of my favs by type :D great video
Auralia's Colors by Jeffrey Overstreet! I've mentioned it a lot in my comments on your channel XP The prose is gorgeous and even has some alliteration and nods to a Grimms fairy tale vibe while being completely different.
Lee child jack reacher Series and I’m currently reading Michelle Connelly Harry Bosch series. And basted off that what would you recommend??!
See You In The Cosmos is dynamic!
I always recommend whatever book I have with me most of the time if I've read it or the author before
I'm not a reader pro, but I tend to recommend the Terry Pratchett Disc World series. If they ask what order to read it in I say, "read the synopsis and decide from there". It leaves it open because every Disc World fan has their own idea of what to read first.
But... best book ever: The Neverending Story.
This video actually made me think of a quick story because I can relate to having struggles with recommending books. This past Summer A girl asked me to recommend a book so I asked what gene she liked she said fantasy and i completely blanked. my struggle with this was her english is not super great so some books were out of the question because she would not understand them
Mine is His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novak. Great for history, alternative history, lovers of Jane Austin, and Dragons. The first book is a great introduction to the nine book roller coaster series and I if that’s not their thing I go with Uprooted cause it’s another great fantasy read.
I totally agree..
So far I've been doing alright when recommending books... Though, I totally recognise the "forgetting my whole bookshelf" problem and I end up recommending my favorite book or the book I'm currently reading (a)
My Go-to Book Recs:
-American Gods by Neil Gaiman
-Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
-Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
-Desiree by Annemarie Selinko
-Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
I recommend The Martian and A monster calls most often!
my go-to recommendation rn are one day in december by josie silver and the girl on the train by paula hawkins. srsly so goooodddd!!!!
My current go-to recommendations are (depending on person I'm recommending to): "Meat Market" by Juno Dawson, "Muse" by Jessie Burton, Anything by Roald Dahl, "The Court of Miracles" by Kester Grant, "Whale Rider" by Witi Ihiemara (which is props my favorite book) and "Anne Frank remembered" by Miep Gies.
My go to recommendation is the The Mortal Instruments And Infernal Devices
My def go-to rec is Perks of Being a Wallflower, EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THAT BOOK AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIFE.
Awesome video! I'm reading Ready Player One now, and loving it! When people ask me to recommend a book, I have a few questions to ask them to give me a minute to think about what to tell them: do you like romance? what about fantasy? what was the last book you read? Did you like it? Oh, look at the time, I've gotta go! 😃😃😃
If you want to be able to have your library with you in your pocket I recommend an app called book catalogue. It is on the play store and all you have to do is scan the bar code and it will upload the book info and a discription and you can even note on it if you have read the book or have it signed by the author. I have almost 800 books scanned onto it and I haven't had any problems. It is great to take to a book store so you don't buy duplicates.
My go to recommendation is all of Rick Riordan’s books and Harry Potter. But for some reason whenever someone asked for a recommendation I always give them a huge list of every book I loved for that genre or if they say any genre. I hope I’m not the only one that does this.
I just had this happen, and this is so accurate lol
About the pocket bookshelf... you should try an app called 'book list library isbn scanner'. I knowww it sounds terrible but the icon is blue with a white book on it and I use it all the time. Makes my life easier, and I don't accidentally buy two copies of the same book.
I just found an app that you can use to take your bookshelf with you. It’s called book buddy. There is a one-time $5 fee I f you have more than 50 books (which most readers do) but it lets you scan things in super easily. And you can even mark which ones you’ve read/haven’t read yet and separate them into categories. Super convenient.
But my go-to recommendation right now is Mackenzie Lee’s “A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue”. It’s a historical lgbtq read, and is absolutely amazing!
When I give book recommendations I ask what authors their into and what books they liked they read and then I Base what I recommend around that.......one book I recommend allot is memoirs of ageshia as well as Nicola Yoon books.......
My go to recommendation is sure signs of crazy it is SO good
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, Iron Druid Series by Kevin Hearne (the Audio is fracking amazing!!), A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness are some of my most recommended.
Sabriel by Gath Nix is my go to every time. I've read it at least 10 times and I still love it. Plus Tim Curry narrates the audio books for the first three books in the series. WIN!!!! ♡
