If you rate based on personal enjoyment, rather than based on writing quality[ or whatever other possible factors you personally may or may not rate for], and you don't personally enjoy being uncomfy-it is perfectly okay for you to rate a book a little lower for that reason! Don't worry!!! 😊💖💖 it's your rating system, and you can use it how you want to! ^-^ No shame!!

yay im so glad you enjoyed Enchantment of Ravens! like you said, people often overlook this book in favor of Sorcery of Thorns (which, yes probably objectively the better of the two i can agree) but Enchantment of Ravens is still soooo charming and fun, so im happy you gave the book a chance! Margaret Rogerson is definitely one of my fav authors, i think she does a great job with character relationships. like if a book is meant to be more romance than fantasy, then she knows how to balance the ratio well without alienating people who are there for the fantasy moreso than the romance. if that makes sense lol

hmmm, I think technically the most recent book I bought was the Getty's catalogue for their Camille Claudel exhibition, which I saw last week. Besides that, another book I've gotten recently is The Garden Against Time by Olivia Laing.

And I totally read it as them as adults as well. So happy you’re loving Margaret Rogerson too! Vespertine is also so good

"An Enchantment of Ravens" is on my list, and now so is "The Art Thief"! There was an Audible sale during Prime Day so of course I had to get some audiobooks! All of these seemed interesting, and fingers crossed that I enjoy them: "The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World: A Novel", "Instant Karma", "Midnight at the Houdini", "I Loved You in Another Life", and "Bookshops & Bonedust".

The Art Thief was such a fascinating read. Loved how the writing balanced the thefts with the motivation and lives of Stéphane and Anne-Catherine.
Really enjoyed The Girl from the Sea too. It was so cute but also very much hit those adolescent, coming-of-age feels.
Sorcery of Thorns didn't hit for me. It was fun and fast-paced, but I had issues with the narrative. I've been hesitant to pick up anymore Rogerson titles, but I maybe I should give her another go?
I'm loving all your reading vlogs lately!

I'm loving this concept of videos! Makes me think of my own tbr and how maybe I should read that (as much as I love relying on my library for newer releases!)
My most recent book purchase was the Penguin Clothbound Edition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It was actually a recommendation (among other film textbooks) to read prior to my PhD officially starting, so I figured I'd treat myself to a nice edition of it.

The last book I bought was a preorder (A Sorceress Comes to Call, by T. Kingfisher), but I have borrowed a couple of library books recently.
The more likely to be on your tbr is The God of Endings, by Jacqueline Holland. I remember it sounded interesting, but I don't remember what it's about.
The other is Paladin's Faith, by T. Kingfisher, which is book four in a series, and you'd also probably want to read the duology set in the same world before you start said series. (If you're looking for fantasy romance, you can do a lot worse than her Temple of the White Rat books.)

An Enchantment of Ravens is Rogerson's debut novel, so it's natural it doesn't feel as fleshed out as Sorcery, which is her newest one. It's not my favorite, but it's still definitely good, and I really can't wait for her next book. I hope you get to read Vespertine at some point, it was my first Rogerson book and I actually really liked it.
A book I recently bought was "Witch King" by Martha Wells, and also "The Diviners" by Libba Bray (yes, I'm very late to the game with this one)

I also loved An Enchantment of Ravens despite not liking the romance. One of the reasons, I think, is that it was important to the plot but not because of annoying stuff like miscommunication.
About the first book, you keep on saying you rated it low bc it made you feel uncomfortable but you also point out that there seemed to be no real reason or resolution for some of those scenes.

One book I read recently that made me question of it was real - and my sanity for doing that 😅 - was When women were dragons by Kelly Barnhill. It is written as part diary and part articles. So 1% of my brain was at one point thinking "Did dragons exist and it was just covered up?" It was an amazing book that I highly recommend.
