TTT he found out about the other two guys’ scheme. Later on those two guys (three actually) use the money that they made to try to acquire another construction company. The guy that is in your question found out and tries to stop them from buying that company. If you are interested in stock investing/trading or even business in general, you should watch this drama series, it’s one of the best. The guy that wears glasses, Michael Hui, is my idol (I am talking about the character in the series, not the actor, great actor btw.)
Michael is my most favorite character in the series (series 1 of course.) I think the reason is that he was good in the beginning, real good and then turn to a bad guy later, real bad, then he comes back good. :)

The chairman is the face of the company so news of its illness will cause the stock price to drop. Once the price drops to $5, the 3 young guys buy the stock of Ming Electric. The President of Fok (the guy with the cigar), also buys Ming electric hoping to acquire it. The acquisition news increases the price of Ming Electric to $10, which doubles the 3 guys investment. Phase 2: the 3 guys short the Fok company. They plan to release news of the Fok Company's corruption with the police. This news scares the lender, who was planning to provide money to Fok to buy Ming Electric. As a result, the acquisition of Ming Electric by Fok fell through and the Fok Company stock drops. The 3 guys then covers their short position in Fok and made money. (Sell high, buy low) The 3 guys made even more money Phase 3: The 3 young guys then buys stock in Fok (since fok share price has dropped from the failed acquisition). The Ming Electric Chairman, having heard about the news of the failed acquisition, buys stock of Fok due to the low share price. This drives the stock price of Fok company higher. More people buy the stock = price increase. The 3 guys then sell their shares in Fok and made money The 3 guys pretty much was just in the background spreading news while manipulating the 2 big dudes behind the scenes. The 2 big dudes have a lot more money so their transactions will cause share prices to increase/decrease. The 3 guys was just riding the waves while the 2 big dudes fight each other. Also, what the 3 guys did is illegal. Its insider trading. they have access to information that was not available to the public.

Tim is my favorite. Michael could be better but his schemes was his downfall.
