  • The premier says a news conference will be held to outline all of the issues that were identified at the attraction. The facility was abruptly closed last month due to concerns about aging roof panels. Premier Ford defended the move today, saying the findings were peer reviewed and shuttering the building was the only safe option.

Toronto leases the land Science Centre sits on. I think it was a 99 year lease, so there's another 30 or 40 years left.
The province apparently promised to create 2000 parking spots to the spa that's going into Ontario Place. There was a story speculating those parking spots would be part of the new Science Centre foundation to hide the cost. Who knows. It could be fun to see them build an underground parking lot on the edge of the lake. It's not impossible, but hearing about the leaking foundations in a few Eglinton Crosstown stations, I'm not completely confident it won't have problems.

I trust the investigation into the Greenbelt scandall will have subpoenaed his personal cellphone records - since he did not use his office cellphone for a long time just prior to the scandal breaking.
Ford claims his personal calls must remain personal, but using his personal phone for business when he knows government business is open for public review is a violation of ethics, and when his personal phone records are subpoenaed - those "personal" calls will be in view of the courts. That is a violation of the trust of secrecy he claims to have offered those who spoke with him - be they public, of corporate leaders.

The Science Centre was closed as the Ontario Place location needs an underground parking lot. Look into it. However, I tend to think a combo of an open Ontario Place (yes the spa too) and Science Centre is perhaps a way to make a profit. The old Ontario Place NEVER did. So, I am not going to slag Ford for making the move. The main issue with the Science Centre is it's poor location for tourism. It's a great place, and yes the new one will be smaller. But the province must make the Ontario Place site work, and make sustained profits, not a new money pit.

The damaged roof area isn’t over a exhibit and could easily be fixed or put off limits with out impacting the exhibits. Ford want to close to put money in his personal pocket. It’s corruption and greed hands down.

If you read the safety assessment you would see that the damage was nowhere near necessitating immediate closure. They recommended repair before 2024, and no closures.
