That connector you pushed up inside the tailgate was supposed to be accessible. It is designed so you can remove your tailgate without having to take the camera stuff off too. I know you hacked the feed line and plugged into the existing RCA you had but thought I would mention it. Cheers from Minnesota.
I used this same camera on one of my trucks and had the issue with the loose bezel which ultimately resulted in one of the tabs breaking off. Now that you reminded me I am going to email the company and see just how no questions asked the 5 yr warranty is.
@@AlexTurbo Master Tailgsters ultimately wanted more for the bezel than I could get one of the many chinesium copies of the camera for. I "temporarily" repaired the bezel by stacking enough 3m vhb tape on each side of the unit to make it secure and steady. It's been temporarily fixed since then 🤣
A DD radio is a great upgrade for the 99-02 GM full size trucks/SUVS. Pioneer DD radios are a perfect fit with just removing the rear brace from the radio cavity.
Backup camera looks like it works pretty good, on my list of "mods to do" along with a double din head unit. you should get the Dee Zee tailgate assist, it let's you be able to just drop you tailgate and let go, and it opens slowly by itself, works very nice.. everyone keeps asking me where I got it.. there only like $25
I have the bully dog locking latch bezel, I would like my camera in there though.. I have mine tucked in right above the receiver hitch, I gotta keep the lock on my tailgate because I leave my tools in there.. I do like this camera a lot though
thanks for the video! Does the camera see the hitch ball when installed? It's not visible in your video but maybe the ball isn't installed? Thats the main benefit of the camera for me is hooking up a trailer.
@@mossman381 thank you, I found your follow up video. Sorry if you already did this and I just missed it.... Just got mine installed I like look and camera but bezel does not fit tight like oem bezel which I had a feeling that was going to be an issue. May have to add some sort of shim or more foam.
Now that is pretty cool! I was gonna say it probably gives a much better view when hookin up trailers then you mentioned it in the video haha. Might have to look into one for my duramax to make hooking up the boat easier.
I am not sure if it will see the hitch. I have a pretty good drop on mine so I think not. Once I hook up a few trailers I should know where it needs to be.
@@jlee0639 Yes, I can even see my 6" drop receiver. Check out my update video on this camera. Really happy with it. Used it all winter. Makes hooking up trailers really easy.
Mossman, Thank you for sticking with us we would have missed you, Randy. How did you make it so the tailgate is still removable or did I miss that? Merry Christmas. Be well. Wayne
The camera just plugs in and I put plug connectors on the + and -. They are going to the same place as I did with the other camera. I showed all the wiring in the first backup camera video I did. Didn't see the need to go over it again.
They are just cheap flares. Don't remember the company but I would recommend these: amzn.to/3hiJjfG They are the Tyger brand and the same price I paid. I have gotten a few Tyger stuff and have been very happy with all of it.
I had the same one installed on my 03 Silverado camera is great it works great but when I put it in reverse the screen doesn't come on I have to push the camera button on my double din Kenwood, is there a way to make it work like yours when I put it in reverse the screen will change to the backup camera? Thanks
You might have to go into your options menu and have the camera pop on the screen when it gets power. Not really sure how your Kenwood works. On my double din I had a backup camera port in the back and maybe even a wire that I needed to hook up to backup light power. Been awhile since I installed it but I have a video in the playlist for this truck of that install.
There should be a reverse trigger wire on your radio harness, there should be a reverse trigger wire in your factory harness as well, if not then just run a wire to a switched power source either a toggle switch or anything that triggers when you put the truck in reverse to your radio!
Just wondering if you (or anyone else) think one of the Pop & Lock (PL1100) manual tailgate locks would fit with this backup camera bezel? My concern is the center bump on the bezel itself. Any feedback would be awesome!
Yup, you say it the way you want and I will say it the way I want. You need to get out more if a different sounding word causes you to take the time to comment about it.

That is not worth $100. Factory bezel and an aftermarket camera is way cheaper. And why would you cut the video cable instead of using a RCA cable extender?
Also I get a much better picture than you are (I am using a pioneer double din radio) I pulled power for the camera off of the constant 12v from the trailer harness with a relay triggered by the reverse lights wire also in the trailer harness. You might get cleaner power from there.

Pretty nifty! If you have issues with the bezel, I'd recommend some 3M double sided tape. That stuff will hold it on!
I don't see it falling off.
I just bought one of these and it was loose enough to pull off with a little jiggling. used the 3M trim tape and no more issues.
What brand/ model of radio do you use with this setup......... Thanks
Are you still happy with the bezel and camera?
I sold the truck but never had any problems with it.
Looks good saw your old western uni mount in the back round do you still use that plow at all
That plow goes on dads truck. He has a 4wd issue that we need to fix.
When you had your old camera on under the tailgate did you have any clearance issues??
This might have been asked but couldn't you unscrew the access plate and run your wires that way without drilling a hole?
Not sure what access panel you are talking about. There are no panels on the bottom of the tailgate.
one question, I see you had no ball on the hitch. Would the camera see it? Would it see a 4 inch drop ball?
I am not sure if it will see the hitch. I have a pretty good drop on mine so I think not. Once I hook up a few trailers I should know where it needs to be.

Really clean. Nice job
Anyone that has it is it working good and is there any issues with it
This worked awesome the whole time I owned the truck.
@@mossman381 ok thanks I just ordered mine today
You need a step drill. Double sided tape or silicon should tighten that loose piece up. Nice job, Thanks.
I was trying to get a 1500 sporty tailgate cap (angled) to eventually put the camera in it, pointing the ball. This could work just fine
I don't like the 1500 tailgate. I think the 2500 smooth cap is much better looking.
Is the wire noticeable on the bottom of the tailgate when it’s closed?
If you look for it you can see it. Doesn't stick out.
