Like your explanation. This is how l think about freewill and God's will. God to me is collective consciousness of living and not living. This collective consciousness gives me a set of options based on my karma. Now what appears to be a freewill is the decision made by part of God within me. And this is making my karma. Making the best decision depends on how pure and storng the God part is in me. Items of your menu are based on your previous order. You are getting this menu and placing order in every fraction of a second (may be in plack time)
I also view it as God is giving you that free will, if God is giving the free will to creation, then even that concept of free will belongs to God. Without God there is no free will. That makes sense to me even when reading Gurbani, that yea I have free will but it comes from God, and recognizing that makes me humble, and we have such a limited freedom of free will as Bhaji said.
