That doesn’t even compare. People usually know when prices are going up in the grocery store, just based on supplies in most cases. But for you to increase a drink package for no real reason bc of greed
@ just by you adding Walmart into the situation, clearly shows you don’t understand. Walmart has to take account for thefts, broken items and supply storage. They also have thousands of items to account for. And trying to compare that to a drink package. Where buying in bulk they probably get it for 4 to 5 dollars…. Stop it
Carnival can raise the price $ 1,000 per person before we are locked in to the cruse. It is deceitful for a grocery store to raise the price from the time I pick out Merchandise from the back of the store to the cashier .
@@QueenSuperJ yes it is. But a couple of times my husband and i went over the drink package amount 😢. So this coming up cruise i said im buying it so we can have peace of mind

Deceptive would be changing the price of something you already bought & telling you to pony up for the difference. In the real world, it is rare for any business to let you know that prices will be going up so to buy soon if you want the lower price.
My wife isnt much of a drinker and Carnival makes you buy the package for both people in the room. Even back when the price was just $54/day I did the math and for a week long cruise we were spending nearly $300 more than had we just bought our drinks one for one. We did the Cheers program three different times and realized we over spent each time in the past. I was shocked when I saw they raised the price to $64. No way I would consider it at $80. Though last year Carnival raised the prices of all their drinks. Before if you were just drinking beer, you wouldnt get your moneys worth from the package. They also cap the max price of the drinks covered. So you still pay out of pocket for those couple of vacation drinks they raised to $16.75 Another shocker the first time was they say the Cheers program was all inclusive. But it was not clearly stated that you would be upcharged another 18% gratuity at the end of the trip. Or another $210 for a week long cruise. Paying as we go - me a heavy drinker, and my wife 1 or 2 a day we are saving $400 a cruise.
All you said is not a secret. It is clearly stated. As for both in a room having to buy the package it stands for reason there would be so much abuse of the drink package that they have to do it this way. I’m in your boat too, so pay as you go it’s cheaper. As far as I have seen they all present it this way.
Max covered cost of the drinks is still $20 and has been since before Covid. Beer has been $8 the past couple years too so it was not too hard to get your money's worth before the most recent increase (which is ridiculously high now). No one drinking 2-3 beers a day was buying Cheers anyway.
Our last 2 cruises we just paid for each drink, when we wanted. We talked to many other people who realize the packages are not worth it as well. I also found the drinks to watered-down.
My one and only cruise with carnival was in 2017 and the drinks were watered down then. I ended up just having wine because it wasn’t worth it to risk it with mixed drinks
I switched to pay as you go long ago. Package is not worth the cost. If the pay as you go gets to bad I will stop that too. All this crap adds up. Taxes, fees, increases,,, eventually it's not worth it. If people stop buying it they will lower the price. As long as it is a cash cow they will keep butchering.
Tony, have friends on MSC Seashore out of Port Canaveral. They left today for a 7 nighter. Deck 14 and up on the bow of the ship was evacuated due to a fire. It’s under control and no report of injury. But all of yacht club is evacuated. It happened about 1930hrs tonight. They are still headed to their first stop at Ocean Cay. But have power outages and some elevators are down.
$80 bucks a day for just drinks ! No way , we are done with Carnival, just booked our next two cruises on HA and Princess where $60 a day gets you drinks, wifi , grats , extra dining etc , no brainer and no regrets leaving here !
Princess plus is a great deal. I also like the service on Princess. Last Carnival cruise we took the service was horrible. Had no bar waitstaff. Always had to go stand in line to get a drink.
I like to get on the app on Princess, order drinks and/or food, and they bring it to me wherever i am on the ship. We have had great luck with the Medallion on Princess.
I also just canceled our 2025 and 2026 14 day cruises on carnival and booked with princess instead.. Been 100% loyal to carnival since 2003, but I am finally tired of the BS
How is it possible that they didn't know there was a problem? Did they not check in on the online app before departure? How did they download a boarding pass?
Also raised WiFi and some of their dining options. Was frustrated me was as an independent travel agent for carnival I found out from a client and not carnival.
My wife barely drinks. Given that the drink package must be purchased for everyone in the room, I couldn't possibly drink enough during a cruise to cover the cost of both drink packages so I've never purchased it. On my last cruise, I drank pretty much the amount I wanted and never came close to what I would have paid for the two drink packages. I doubt I drank enough to pay for one package when you consider the whole cruise.
Thanks for your video. It was very informative and we just got back from our cruise last Friday but by the time you get this, it’ll be a while well it was over Thanksgiving and I know you’re gonna have a great implication on the sun princess. Thanks a lot. And tell Jenny I said hi.❤❤❤🥰🎅🏼🎄🧑🏻🎄
For my first cruise I had FIVE adult ppl in my room. It does happen. I don't like to travel like that but it was really expensive otherwise and Obama had just opened cruising to Cuba in 2017 and the cruise took care of the documents and affidavits so we just had to fill it out. It felt like an opportunity I could not miss. And it wasn't that bad!
I am indifferent to the change in price for the drink package. We consume alcohol on our cruises but the requirements that you have to purchase it for everyday including port days when off ship and everyone adult in the room has to purchase the package makes it something we never consider adding to our cruises
I agree, betrayed makes more sense than deceived. I get the feeling betrayed on this. People are accustomed to some warning and they didn't get it this time. I'm wondering if the price rise is another tiny attack on getting people to not get so drunk. Although maybe not, as people will feel even more compelled to "get their money's worth." I do love the secret links!
Another great Show, Tony!🌟🌟🌟😎😎😎 These Drinks Packages make me cross because I choose to drink & cruise with a non-drinker in my cabin = so I cannot buy a package (because ALL people in the room MUST buy a package)!😣😣😣
People should never buy anything off Facebook, ever. There is absolutely no control by FB on who posts. Same goes with game app ads. Say what you will but there needs to be a better way to vet FB posts that are selling. FB will shut you down in two seconds for a post that they don’t like but they let scammers post anything they want.
Me to look at it The drinks on board of ship runs between 650 and 8:50 a drink on carnival all their cruise lines such as Holland America. So that comes out to about a few divide 80 into 15 drinks comes out to $5.60 some cents per drink so you're still saving two or $3 on a drink but you got to remember the drink packages also include coffee juice and water when you go on it excursions still not a bad deal but if they keep raising it it's going to be a bad deal
Just got off the Firenze , and yes I noticed the prices of the drinks are higher. But it is your choice how much you wish to spend. I do not buy the drink package with carnival as I believe it’s too expensive and I do take my own wine to avoid over spending for the drinks, but I do enjoy my drinks from either the alchemy Bar or the Amari bar. 😊
If you're buying a Cheers package and max use it, get to AA ASAP. I'll agree though that it's not a deception unless they raised the price on those who already paid for the package.
Regarding the drink prices and packages, it is all a “bait and switch” game. This quarter most of the lines are offering all kinds of discounts for the 2nd passenger to entice u to book. They have to make it up somewhere else. Just like the extra charges on airplanes for seats, food, etc.
My 14-day Journeys cruise coming up in 36 days just cost an additional $300+. I guess I will just make sure to have that extra $12 drink. I have two additional cruises coming up on Carnival as well. I've heard rumors of the Wi-Fi going up, so I've already booked my internet for all of them. Next, the onboard drink prices will go up. Those who do not have the drink package will begin to consider the package. It's just how we evolve and transition.
Just FYI, the Cheers package also includes non alcoholic soft drinks, coffees, shakes, etc. But, even so, we still save a bunch by just buying as we go.
With all the modern tech and computing abilities, it would be relatively easy for the bars, coffee shops, etc, to keep track of who has a drinks package rather than requiring all adult cabinmates to buy it. However, I expect it would reduce the company's income considerably and income is really what matters. At the end of the day they must make money, and I'm OK with all the big drinkers and drinkers' cabinmates, helping to keep down the price of my cruises a bit.
I have a 29 day crossing in the spring. The drink package is $2400 pp. I suspect there will ge a lot of intoxicated folks trying to get thier moneys worth on the 20 sea days.
I think the itinerary will dictate whether or not to go on Carnival or any other cruise line. If the drinks package is not a good deal, then simply pay for each drink. Another factor to consider with drink packages is the number of sea days vs. port days. Form my own experience, I tend to drink more on sea days hanging around the pool or hot tub!
I get drinks when i play at the casino they say it is drinks on them as i play for me and a friend i know not really free IF I lose but im about 1000 aheda in my last 5 cruised so im doing ok some free drinks and i have lots of fun im platinum on Carnival so not bad.
NCL recently changed their specialty dining and a lot of people, myself included, were unable to purchase additional meals at the discounted rates. It sucked but I didn't feel deceived by it. I said "darn it should have bought them last month" and then went about my day.
Thanks for reporting Tony… Feeling just a little confused that those two ladies who were scammed did not do their check-in prior to leaving for the port… Just seems a little odd😳
Not sure it is betrayal or deceit. If you purchase any of the drinks packages, the price is clearly shown. Pay as you go, you will be surprised what you save.
Recently on Princess and did the premier. It was our first cruise in 10 years so we gave it a shot. We’re not big drinkers so we weren’t able to get our value from it.
I don't drink enough to even cinsider a drink package. I don't think Carnival has deceived or betrayed anyone by raising their prices. Many businesses raise prices with little or no notice. We had hurricanes in Tennessee. I haven't heard if the distilleries were affected. Hard liquor has to age months to years before being bottled. If the distilleries were flooded, damaged, or destroyed, whiskey prices will go up.
If it's just the alcohol people are worried about, just buy a couple bottles for your room, which are inflated prices for the bottles, but ultimately way less expensive on carnival
Hey Tony. I think it’s not necessarily the price hike because these days they are raising everything. It’s not even letting us know so we can lock in a lower prize. It’s letting us know so maybe we would like to decide if we really want the package. I’m not a huge drinker so now I’m on the fence about if I drink enough to be worth getting it. Thanks Tony.
exactly - it's not about the "well i'm glad i dont drink" or "only buy drink by the glass" commenters here. its about customer service and the whole industry increasing prices of everything with less benefit received
Platinum cruiser on Carnival here. My wife and I were well on the way to Diamond status, having took at least two cruises per year, until Carnival turned into money grubbing worms. Service down, entertainment down, dining down (unless you pay extra for a specialty restaurant), and prices WAY UP. We haven't gone with them in two years now and wouldn't but next year our close friends REALLY wanted to go for a special event. We will go on that one, it is a two week "journey" cruise, but we aren't looking in the future at all. Carnival has thrown away its loyal customers. We used to get special offers for being loyal, but they NEVER send us one anymore.
I only drink 10 to 12 drinks ona 7 day cruise..I buy as I go. Wish cruise lines would do the margaritaville deal and purchase 10 for 100 for light weights
So how did the individual drink prices go up as well? What are those prices? Does anybody have a picture of the document of the new drink prices? Still trying to figure out if it’s worth it or not, especially when you don’t drink all 15 of your drinks in a day.
My problem with the drink package increase is that historically they have given notice before the increase. However, I do understand that there’s no requirement for advance notice. I’m disappointed but not angry.
We never buy the drink package because we can’t drink our $$$worth lol. We love cruising but the pricing seems a little high for those longer cruises that we like. I’m afraid there will be better options for the price looking ahead.
Decades ago, my friends and I cruised with 3 to 4 people in a cabin. We did this so we could afford the cruises with the associated costs for transportation, hotels, and meals before and after the cruise.
We have never purchased a drink pkg as we could not drink that much alcohol to justify paying 60, 70 or 80 dollars a day per person. I know that drinking for a lot of people increases their fun by loosening up their inhibitions. The bottle of wine that my partner and I each bring is enough. We may get a drink at one of the bars but for us it's cheaper than the drink package for us.
funny we are going on our first CCL trip. Because we have no status with them and it's a family cruise, we had the package in our cart for many months waiting on a sale. Gave up on the sale and bought it this week, avoiding the $160 increase. They should make the lower price available again to avoid all the bad publicity. RCL errored and listed the drinks for $14 PP PD. Many of us jumped on that deal. They than sent a letter saying cheers to us snagging that error! Everyone loved it!
@LaLidoLoca I agree that Betrayal might be a better word than Deception, because Historically John Heald and Carnival announced drink package price changes and made a big deal about it. To change the process suddenly seems to be a Betrayal of that Relationship between Carnival and Passengers.
The question is whether Carnival is raising their per drink prices, too, thus the daily increase OR does Carnival want to encourage their drunk-and-ready-to-fight crowd to have just one more drink to justify the price of the package?
I never get the drink package. I get free drinks in the casino so im good. I dont drink that much anyway. ALWAYS take your booking number and log into the cruise website to make sure its valid and that your name is on it
They need to have a tier that's everything non-alcoholic, just like Royal Carribean. So, specialty coffees, milkshakes, ect. But at least our party of 16 will each bring a 12 pack of drinks.

Stories like this and people will still complain about NCL's $210 for 7 days of "totally" unlimited drink package included with more at sea. Lol
Norwegian here I come!!!😂😂😂
My gas station changes prices sometimes twice a day! They never give a warning either.
Just got off the Majestic.. back into purgatory until next cruise.. I did purchase 6 future cruise deposits though. 😁
5:32 No
Why do people think they should be told a company is going to raise its price? Do grocery stores advertise future price increases? No!
I've never bought the drink package....way too expensive.
I only drink 10 to 12 drinks ona 7 day cruise..I buy as I go. Wish cruise lines would do the margaritaville deal and purchase 10 for 100 for light weights
Deceit is written into the fine print of your cruise ships cruise ticket.
So how did the individual drink prices go up as well? What are those prices? Does anybody have a picture of the document of the new drink prices? Still trying to figure out if it’s worth it or not, especially when you don’t drink all 15 of your drinks in a day.
I would be grumpy if the price went up after I purchased.
My problem with the drink package increase is that historically they have given notice before the increase. However, I do understand that there’s no requirement for advance notice. I’m disappointed but not angry.
No I do not have the secret item yet but it's on the list.
NCL/more are sea is looking better and better. If i do go back on CCL again, I will go back to smuggling.
No, come on people!!!
Are the individual drinks prices going up also?
We have never purchased a drink pkg as we could not drink that much alcohol to justify paying 60, 70 or 80 dollars a day per person. I know that drinking for a lot of people increases their fun by loosening up their inhibitions. The bottle of wine that my partner and I each bring is enough. We may get a drink at one of the bars but for us it's cheaper than the drink package for us.
Be like buying car insurance off of ebay!!!!!
drinks as the cruise goes for me! i dont even think my tab is $100
funny we are going on our first CCL trip.
ALWAYS take your booking number and log into the cruise website to make sure its valid and that your name is on it
So you're saying that you pay more? 😅
I am pissed because I was waiting until Jan for my Feb cruise, because it was pretty expensive for a 7 night cruise- almost 1000 for 2 before.
The internet prices went up as well.
They need to have a tier that's everything non-alcoholic, just like Royal Carribean. So, specialty coffees, milkshakes, ect.
But at least our party of 16 will each bring a 12 pack of drinks.
