    Are you kiddin me!? This was more informative than whole hours of tutorials I usually watch them in 1.5 speed but I literally had to slow you down to fathom the intensity. I can't say I learned but I just witnessed productively using hard mix and cell pattern to generate halftone, effect masks, layer style blending options and the very useful 'take alpha from luminance' trick

    Such a solid video! Half of it is kinda going over my head but that is mostly due to the "programming" part of AE that I haven't mastered yet.

    Damn this tutorial was absolutely perfect idk how you manage to step these tutorials every video I can’t wait for you to get millions upon millions of subs and views because no one else deserves this more than you. Can I ask you how did you learn all these things was it just playing around or did you read something in order to be able to do this?

    • @AcademyOfEdits
      @AcademyOfEdits  3 года назад +1

      For the most part my tutorials are things I've picked up using AE over the years that I then spend time making more useful if I can. Either by seeing if X can be done better, coming up with examples to show why Y is really cool, or showing how you can use Z in an unexpected way. For example I've known about Hard Mix being useful in Photoshop for a while but figured it would also be just as useful in After Effects (despite not using it in AE before I started research for the tutorial!)

    Extremely helpful of a video IDK WHY you are not recognized yet!
    A question tho:
    IS there a better way to add color to our halftone I duplicated the footage and set it to multiple or either just use set matte or track matte to constrict the colors to the halftone.

    When I make the first instance it works just fine. But when I duplicate in the projkect panel, then copy paste over the control and effect, it messes up. Like the dissolve comp has to be at a certain place for it to work, somewhere in the middle of the subcomp, not exactly where I keyframe it. It'll completely disregard my keyframes, very odd. Not sure what im doing wrong.

    • @BLXKMNTN
      @BLXKMNTN 2 года назад

      And then if you precomp the comp you're working on the dissolve effect completely goes away. /:

    • @BLXKMNTN
      @BLXKMNTN 2 года назад

      looks like if you ever precomp the dissolve comp and affected layer, then you gotta re-pickwip the slider again in order to get it working.

    • @AcademyOfEdits
      @AcademyOfEdits  2 года назад

      @@BLXKMNTN that's odd, did you follow the step at 4:44 where we change the expression to reference the Comp's name? That should make it so we don't have to relink the slider

    great explanation but you totally lost me when you added multiple instances to the slider control and gradient ramp

    • @AcademyOfEdits

      If we duplicate a comp in the layer stack and then go into either version of the comp, we arrive at the same comp. BUT if we duplicate the INSTANCE of the comp from the project panel, we have a new version of that comp. So now with 2 versions of the comp we can make changes to the noise to make the dissolve look different in each comp. Hopefully that explains what I meant about new instances!
