One of my faaaaaaavvvv songs rn ❤ Just my personal interpretation: the body bags represent all the deaths of his peaceful thoughts during or after the relationship. The hands with the pearls then turning into a firing squad is like being lured into something beautiful that ultimately kills you, much like the sirens. I think the guy in the car lighting himself on fire with the dead girl nearby represents the death of the relationship and how he’s burned by the thoughts of this person he still loves, but realizes the relationship is destructive. So even tho he ends it, he feels like he’s lit the fire that ultimately destroys him. I particularly like the you come and go in waves leaving me in your wake… swallow me down. He’s willing to drown for this person which is so incredibly destructive, but speaks to a ton of toxic relationships in general. You know it’s bad for you but you can’t get away. Such an amazing song. If you’d like another master songwriter try Nothing More. You won’t regret it. I recommend Jenny, God Went North, Fade In Fade Out, You Don’t Know What Love Means and Here’s to the Heartache. Sorry for the novel, love your channel!

Hi Maddy, I can give you a bit of insight into the lyrics I already tried to find out myself when I first heard it. This is a quote from the artist who wrote the lyrics - “This track didn’t have much deliberation behind the lyrics at first and was more of a flow-state writing experience. The skeleton of this song was a really experimental process that took place over the course of a full day. If you haven’t heard about the genesis of this song by now, I’ll make it brief: at the start of quarantine in 2020 I challenged myself to make a track using only samples I recorded of household items. Smacking pillows, shaking keys, recording and tuning the low frequency of a vacuum cleaner to a C note and making a multi octave sampler out of it. Stuff like that. After a few hours of tinkering in my DAW [digital audio workstation] I had made an instrumental with all these sounds. From there, I just looped sections and free-styled melodies with whatever words or incoherent noises came to my head. After countless loops the noises shaped into vowels, which shaped into consonants, and then words that ultimately felt very native to the dark, dry and sensual core of the instrumental and didn’t need much tweaking once the real instrumental was realised around them. Asking the question: ‘When this is all over, will we both go home alive, and will we ever find inner peace again after the events that took place?’”

Don't overthink alternative music videos. The music is what matters.
art can have many different interpretations and maybe the video doesn't really have a hidden meaning behind it, but this is my personal interpretation: all the dead bodies are the dead expectations you had with your past lover/s. the guy setting the car and himself on fire, for me, it's like all that consuming love and how it takes everything from you and at the same time, how you want to "burn it all", burn the memories and make them disappear. the siren praying on the guy is falling for someone unexpectedly and ending being hurt by them, when you're in too deep that you can't escape and how they end up taking and tearing pieces from you in the process. and i see the hands on the wall as how you have your walls up, and don't want to let anyone in. but you see them slowly peaking through it and you feel that tension. the hands holding the necklaces, they're showing you something beautiful, so for a moment you get distracted because it seems harmless (it could also be symbolic with the hands and necklaces of how love sometimes can feel suffocating, like having someone's hands around your neck) and then when you least expect it, those same hands that were initially showing you something beautiful, are now killing you.
i don't think this is what they planned, but for me linking the mv with the lyrics that basically talk about a toxic relationship. wanting to be with someone but you can't because you're hurting each other and keep falling in a toxic cycle. that toxic love is what kills your peace of mind, because all you're thinking of is them, how they hurt you, how you hurt them, etc

@@MaddyReactionsThe biggest thing he's trying to convey is that it's the way love has been manipulated and portrayed that is what causes the death of peace of mind. It's been romanticized and idealized to where it's become toxic and codependent. We need to break out of that and realign with what love was always supposed to be. Unconditional. Because we are love. Ego, feelings and emotions are of the mind. We are not our mind. We are our soul. And that is why we struggle and why we're in such chaos right now. Because some of us are starting to break free from the manipulation. Please also check out their song "Careful what you wish for". Along with having a great message overall he wrote it for Chester Bennington.
