    Mam I have one doubt.
    It is written in NCERT that trichomes help in preventing water loss due to transpiration. But mam we know that trichomes are hair like outgrowths of epidermis, since it is hairy then it must have greater surface area which means more water loss and increases the rate of transpiration. So according to NCERT how it prevents water loss?

    • @BiologyNowadays
      @BiologyNowadays  4 года назад

      Hi Subhadip, trichomes reflect light, thereby reduce internal temperature and thus reduce water loss in plants. Some trichomes seen in plants growing in dry regions can even trap water vapour. This also prevents water loss. I hope it is clear now :) Best regards, Shanty

    • @SubhadipMaity07
      @SubhadipMaity07 4 года назад

      @@BiologyNowadays Thank you very much mam. It's quite helpful. Mam, since we know that there is layer named cuticle over epidermis which prevents water loss. And trichomes are the part of epidermis so it must be lined with cuticle and hence can be responsible for prevention of water loss. Can it be an another reason? Actually I guessed so. Thanks again.
