From the 70' film heralding his existence, this is the part where he is taken up on his wager to challenge his position as 'King (picker) of Fannin Street', or some such.
@@jakeyboy261992 My bad, I responded to the wrong comment. Someone mentioned that the actor who played the young Leadbelly in this scene was also on Magnum PI. I was asking of he played the character of TC on the latter.
Abiquiu Stark. What are you talking about? Some of the most famous guitar players of all time are black lol Hendrix, Prince, BB King, Albert King, Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson, Bo Diddley, Eddie Hazel and so on. Most are house hold names because of their guitar abilities. Only white guitarists that are mentioned in the same breath as these guys in blues/rock/jazz are Paige, Clapton, Gilmore, SRV, and Eddie. Most of those black guitarist are famous because of their guitar abilities and not the songs they had like Clapton and Gilmour. But you also have Doc Watson, Rice, Sutton, Blake, and Billie Strings. They are all white but bluegrass pickers that I would put in the class of everyone of the guitarist i mentioned and better than most.
There’s a Tom Waits song about the Houston Fannin Street, but Lead Belly’s version was referencing Fannin Street in Shreveport Louisiana. A street which was comprised of a row of whorehouses and bars.
@@skatetodeath666 not really. Unless you play guitar you're not going to notice the notes don't match. Besides don't forget LeadBelly used a different tuning to standard so the notes might actually be correct.
Most folks don't have a clue to this era. Lost history, no matter what race.
why isn't this as popular as dueling banjo's?
because it wasn't in a mega bucks Hollywood production - STUPID.

That's the one-and-only Roger E. Mosley (of Magnum PI fame) playing the young Leadbelly in this scene. He's the young man with the 6-string guitar.
"The Challenge" played by David Cohen (6-string) of Country Joe & The Fish, and Dick Rosmini (12-string)
That makes a lot of scene now.
You see it coming and it still delivers. 👏
Really good movie and fantastic music throughout. Black guitar players have historically not been recognized enough.

Oh, guitar players know about the great black guitar players though, Aniquin. Who cares what the non-players think?
One of the best scenes in this movie.☉tribe
Chapeauuuuuuuuu for this blues.Thank youi thank you Michael for uploading.
Reminds me of John Fahey a lot.
As a guitar player so enjoyed it looked like they actually knew the tune and could play it...
Who is actually playing the guitars ? They sound fantastic ! 🤩
BRILLIANT !!!!!!!!
If someone could tab this out
your ear should be all you need
