- Randy Travis I'M So Lonesome I Could Cry live tribute Hank Williams
"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is a song written and recorded by American country music singer-songwriter Hank Williams in 1949. Williams wrote the song originally intending that the words be spoken, rather than sung,as he had done on several of his Luke the Drifter recordings. The song about loneliness was largely inspired by his troubled relationship with wife Audrey Sheppard. With evocative lyrics, such as the opening lines "Hear that lonesome whip-poor-will/He sounds too blue to fly,"

Hank Williams I'M So Lonesome I Could Cry lyrics
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry
Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry
The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Best remake of this classic song.
Randy sings this with as much feeling in his voice as Hank did! Love them both equally! Thank you for sharing on Facebook! I shall share also.

I miss music like this... country ain't country no more.. I'm 36 years young lol (thank you ) and the industry keeps falling and falling !!! I'll always be a 90s and past country fan !!! Ain't no hip hop goin on here y'all !!!
I hear ya! I'm 33 and feel the same miss the George Tammy merle Waylon Conway era
I’m 35 I only listen to 90s 80s and old country the new age isn’t the same anymore!
I'm not a hugh country music fan, but Randy Travis was awesome.
The greatest country voice ever in my opinion ❤
COUNTRY AINT GONE NOWWHERE, YALL🤠💕
I've never heard this version but Randy can lipstick the phonebook to a #1 hit
Randy is the songbird of his generation.
This man can relate to Hank as lived a similar life. Definitely does the great Hank Williams justice.
One of the best guitarist I've ever known playing electric guitar Mr Ronald Radford, played with Randy for years.
I'm not sure if it's the same guy ,but one of Randy's guitar plays was playing with a band in Nashville at the Johnny Cash restaurant .
Randy captures the spirit of this song
Hi how are you doing dear?

Hi Ann Marie, how are you doing today? Which of Brady Travis song is your favorite?
This man is who got me to start liking County music.... thank you Randy!
I'm having one of those days today and I'm listening to all the artist who sang this song. I think B.J. Thomas tops the list. Sorry Hank, and all the other legends.
B.J died today.. He is singing with all of them today.
Definitely, and all are legends. Very sad about BJ Thomas. I'm 53 and can never remember a time in my life when I wasn't a fan of his music.
Try this one...it's superb...and it's loaded with legends.

I was going to say that B. J. Thomas did a beautiful rendition of this. I love Hank Williams' version because it's the one I grew up with, but B. J. Thomas' is right next to Hank's. The first time I heard it by him, I actually cried, it was so heartwarming.

This is my favorite of BJ's renditions of it.

Randy Travis is such a great traditional artist.
One of kind. He is a wonderful singer. God Bless
Beautiful in its own way so so sad 💞
So happy I got to see Randy before this happened.Love you Randyh
One of my favorite country voices!
Randy Travis really captures Hank Williams nasal twang
Randy travis will forever be a legend.
Going through the same thing Mr. Travis!
The best, singing one of the best!🌹

Fuck this is great. My current fave singing my all time fave. Love it
AMEN !!
Thx for thenice prison talk language. Stay classy.
Old hank would like this.
Amazingly beautiful!
holy crap dude
I'll take Hank Sr. on this one.
Hi how are you doing dear?
I can identify with this song!
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by
The moon just went behind the clouds
To hide its face and cry
Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die?
Like me, he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry
The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I love his music so much especially his old music from the 80s too bad he had a stroke like 4 years ago
Wright William? Anybody know how much he’s recovered so far after almost 5 years?
6 yrs now and Randy is still getting better each and every day. " I love you Randy ! " 💘💋🇺🇸😍
Randy Travis may you be blessed by the Lord who made heaven and earth.
What a voice!
Beautiful ❤
Randy Travis is the bestest ever
Absolutely fantastic take on this song. Wonderful.
I’m pretty sure this performance is from a mid 80s tv special called “In the Hank Williams Tradition”. No sure where it aired but I had it on VHS as a teenager during that time. Great rendition and Randy is just great here as usual..
Beautiful
Wonderful singer. Wonderful song
Love to hear Patty loveless sing this song.
Hank Williams the hillbilly Shakespeare.
HANK WOULD BE PROUD!
If that voice ain’t lonesome then I’ve never heard one
Elvis hank and randy all kill it
Bloody good song
Well Done . Love it.
A great bluegrass version by a marvelous group called Kentucky Justus is BEAUTIFUL!!
Thumbs up from me in 2020
Very nice version
his Grand Ole Opry debut ... March 1986! be well, Randy!
I prefer the approach he had when he sung it on that Burt Reynolds show with Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, and George Jones.
It bothers me that there isn't a quality upload of that Burt Reynolds episode on RUclips. The legends on that episode.
I sent this song to Mary and I stated that I was Lonesome for her and I won't be anymore when I'm in your arms embracing you and hugging you my Darling.
i honestly like this version better
💕
Im so lonesome I could cry.
Hands down one of the very best country songs ever written. This whinging Nashville hackjaw version makes me want to stick icepicks in my ear.
there is no better description of lonely misery than that one line
I'd love to know what program this was from!
Awesome job.....Hank Sr is better, but I commend him

Hi how are you doing dear?
Almost
What is this from?
he is alright, but doesn't hold a candle to Hank Williams, I grew up to his music
Nancy Caccioppo no one could ever compare to hank but i love thoses musician who made his music known to other generation its been 65 years since hank's death and he's still kicking ass
at least he sang it with pain most others besides hank himself didnt sing it that way
David Keith you're right
Who cares
Hi how are you doing dear?
Sorry Randy, but Hank Willams Jr. really out sings even his dad on this one. Best cover ever!
I love Randy Travis and his voice. As far as greatest vocals in Country Music...to me it's neck and neck with George Jones
But being honest...this cover doesn't do it for me
Nope not even close..
No comparison to Hank...nobody can sing it like Hank did.
Randy Travis kills it singing this song, but Hank Williams version will forever be the standard.
I personally put Randy Travis over George straight bc if Randy didn't have the problems he had he would have George straights spot and garths
@ Rodney Keldson, I love all 3 Singers very deeply, but to say that had it not been for Randy's Situation, and health issues, he would top Garth, or George is insanely crazy. Randy definitely had a great Voice during his tenure, but between his Alcoholism, and his health, these issues have taken a huge toll on his vocals, while both George, and Garth are still going strong, and between the 2, it's a strong tie in my heart for first place, because while Garth knows how to work a Stage, and bring a Crowd into a Frenzy, George can simply stroll out on a Stage, and just Stand there behind that Microphone, strum a few guitar chords, and sing, and bring the entire house to their knees, and it just doesn't get any easier than that.
Love George Strait.
There are so many great versions of this song but this is not one of them. I don't care for his voice.
Chlynn13 B Randy Travis has the twang it takes to sing this song. 2nd best behind Hank himself.
@@justinfoushee agreed
needs more warmth and vibrato . . voice is robotic .. don´t pass for me. Besides that song is kind of difficult because the rhythm is not conventional Country but a special measure and seems like most who sing it don´t follow it correctly.
again YER AN ASS !!!
On The Voice, a duet was done of this song and it was LOVELY.
he's got such a boring and nasal voice... no thank you. Compare with for instance the great Keith Whitley - his voice was of a completely different dimension
I've just listened to 5 versions of this, all quite good, but I think this is the weakest. I've not listened to Randy Travis before but his voice is a bit shaky and pitch dodgy at times at times. However, he does communicate emotion.
Jerry Lee Lewis' version is the one for me. He has that keening, lost and lonesome voice. On some of these Country songs there is absolutely no-one better at wringing the emotion and feeling from a song, and he does it with this one too.
Rubbish... elvis blow you away
It is nasal singing
