It's not just in Russia, Svetlana. In the US the prices of everything has gone up a lot. I bought eggs on Saturday and I paid $6.00 for an 18 pack of good quality large eggs. They were on sale and are normally $8.00. In the US, cow tongue is popular to put in Mexican tacos, they call it lengua. I remember when they used to be very cheap, just a couple dollars. Now with traditional Mexican food being more and more popular, they are much more expensive now. I do not drink, maybe once a year or so, so I have no idea how much alcohol costs. I would love to see how much a modest 2 bedroom apartment costs and even a small modest Dacha in the countryside.

is the problem with Mexican food prices just that the prices have gone up, or that you have more Mexicans coming in daily, driving the price rise??

    • @westernwanderer8397
      @westernwanderer8397 4 месяца назад +1

The price of food in general. I also think since a lot more people are eating authentic Mexican food, or traditional dishes, not just Mexicans, the price of the ingredients have gone up. Supply and demand, I guess.

Today I bought 1.5 liters of Filippo Berio organic extra virgin olive oil from UK Costco for £9 pounds. Last couple of years Olive oil prices gone up extortionately.
Beef tongue is very tasty in sandwiches and soups, it is high in protein and very low in fat. Usually buy it from Turkish markets.
Mission Tortilla wraps sold here in UK (Sainsbury's) in exactly same packaging for £1.7 pound a pack.

the Turkish "olive" oil isn't olive oil at all, but a scam prepared with seed oil and additions. Some "Italian" restaurants were caught buying this cheap fake stuff. Due to many bad harvests last years because of dry weather, prices have gone up drastically.

Trust me, Everything in Russia tastes far better with the exception of cheese. That's the one thing Ive had that Russians are still figuring out how to make a lot of our varieties, but that's it. No GMO's, I've had fresh from the cow unpasteurized milk, more ketchup varieties than you can imagine, fruit that tastes like it was just picked at the bizarres. There's a reason everyones getting sick and fat in the US. Something else I must remind people, those prices are not per pound, but per KILO!! That's per 2.2 lbs.

Thanks for the video. Based on salary, those prices are high, but manageable.
Since I like good things and don't like to pay premium prices, I tend to buy and freeze many items that I like when they go on sale. I wonder if having a freezer is a thing for Russians. I buy 1/4 steer about every 1 1/2 years and the pork and chicken from the grocery store when its on sale, usually deep discount on the sell or freeze by date. Same thing with frozen veggies, good bread and other frozen items I eat. Yes, I'm a cheap skate but don't like to skimp on quality.

Hi Svetlana, a pretty Russian woman! You are very level headed, tell things as they are without getting yourself into trouble with the Russian Gestapo. In my opinion the conditions (groceries, environment, entertainment, social scene) in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, are maintained by the Putine regime at a European standard to falsely create an illusion of prosperity and vitality in the face of sanctions for murdering tens of thousands of Russia's peaceful neighbors! Please you do not have to respond. Your 'Mommy-Land' eats her own children! The Russian 'Mommy-Land' has sent almost a half a million of her sons, brothers, husbands, fathers, into the worst horror the world has seen since your Great War against the Germans. Russia under your leader Putine, is now a fascist state, killing and imprisoning his opponents, beating your neighbors and family who may utter the least opposition to Putine's war. I am sad for you and people who are trapped in the Orwellian State but your men have been castrated by Putine, and now are mere 'Damsels in Distress', cowering from police, from conscription, in neighboring countries bullied by Russia, cowering in trenches! Your 'men' must get together, communicate, connect, consult with Ukraine and MARCH on the Kremlin! Good luck Svetlana, and take care!

Due to the amount of tax we have on alcohol in Australia a 700ml bottle of Stolichnaya vodka is $52. I was somewhat shocked to see that Toblerone has returned to it's normal price of $44.44 a kilo. Our supermarkets all announced record profits so they are really ripping us off. Good Afternoon
    Dear Svetlana,
Still about Leek, in Portugal, depending on the region, two names are used, in the North of the country it is called Leek ("alho porro" in Portuguese), or French garlic in the Southern part of the country ("alho francês" in Portuguese).
The products there in Russia are a little cheaper than here at Auchan in Portugal, 1 Euro is equivalent to 100 Rubles, so it is easier to understand the prices.
It remains to be seen how much the price of houses and rents cost there, without this it is difficult to make comparisons of the cost of living.
Good year 2024 with health and peace.
    Merry Christmas.

Beef tongue is good. I used to work at Canada Packers in the sausage kitchen and we made headcheese using beef tongue and meat from the cheeks of pigs. I think the beef tongue tasted like corned beef. We would heat the tongue in hot water and an outer rough layer would peel off. That is how I recollect it from 1976. I could be mistaken . We made baloney. The master in the kitchen would actually make the baloney mix and wieners and pepperoni. We fed the mix for baloney into a big funnel on this machine and then held the outer skin in place while it was injected. Then I think they cooked it somewhere. We also made garlic sausage and they used cleaned intestines for the outer skin. Also a mix called devon was used to make baloney but on wiki now they say devon is Australian. I am sure we made baloney with devon mix.

Very informative video once again. Prices in Australia (as others have commented below) are considerably higher for most things. However, wages/salaries also are considerably higher. Despite a lot of bleating about people doing it tough here due to inflation, 1.2 million new cars (a record) were sold here in 2023. The airlines, too, are doing very well due to the number of people going OS.

Have you ever wondered how salary amounts affect the cost of living? Let's say you work in a barbershop and the price for your services directly depends on the total income of citizens. If people get $500 a month, then you can't put the price at $50 for a haircut. And so it is everywhere, utilities, transportation, entertainment... Everything cannot be more expensive than people can afford. Think and reflect on how much a Russian can afford for $ 500 per month if utilities cost only $ 50 per month and a tax of 8-13%. This is 1/10 of the average salary.

Yes, I understand and am sympathetic across the board. What I'm alluding to to, here in Australia, is that the media and motivated politicians claim that most people are 'battling'. Some are; but an ambit claim that overstates the general financial status of most people does not follow after considering the record number of new vehicles sold in 2023 and the sheer volume of oversees travel. I studied economics at high school and university, so I do understand all those realities. I watch 'Vasya in the Hay' videos and grasp the real desperation of some/many (?) people in Russia. @@almitrondecepticon2091

In Norway we can buy sliced beef tongue in packages, same as sliced ham and such. It is really good! We used to be able to buy whole tongues, which is better, but our shops are so bad so everything disappears eventually. We had boiled tongue every christmas, in slices and served on bread. Delicious! The sliced ones in plastic packages taste the same, but they are more dry and sliced in thinner slices, good but not the best.
For those who have beef tongue in your countries and don't dare to try it, just do it! It is nothing disgusting about it at all. Sausages are much worse, if you think about it. What is real sausage skin made of? Yes, exactly! So beef tongue is not even the slightest disgusting. It is just a piece of meat that taste very good and is extremely tender and moist.

Beef Tongue is popular in South Africa. Remember, our Christmas and New Year is SUMMERTIME. During this time we prepare most meat and salads the night before Christmas. (At least when it start cooling down) My niece like to prepare the Tongue. With that she make a Mustard Sauce. I don't eat Tongue but can't resist her mustard sauce. I prepare the easiest meat. Not sure what to call it. Normally a big piece of beef, soaked in salty water for 2 days. One only boil it. I found it normally too salty. Boil it for a while and change the water. Cooking time depend on size. I order 2kg. I slice a piece off at home while boiling. Small size stay at home in the fridge. My sister will cook a leg of lamb, stuffed with pieces of garlic. She also cook the pork. Big piece of pork, spiced and bake it in the oven. And maybe we'll have a chicken as well. When we were little I saw how my uncle kill a turkey. Since then, I never ate Turkey again. All the meat is sliced, covered with alcan foil or cling wrap. Lunchtime we take all the food out, everyone take whatever they want. When done, it goes back in the fridge. We were normally a lot of people and the swimming will continue from 3pm. Before that time the UV rays are at it's worst. The 26th we'll get together again and 'try' to finish the leftover food and desert. We have at least 2 watermelons. Yummy!
I lost track of prices. I have an allergy for dairy products. (Ice cream too!) I try to remember to rat at least 2 eggs per week. That is for the natural vitamin A in it - which will help with the next virus (called X) Big Pharma started working on a vaccine for it.

The cost of all utilities for my 72 meter apartment in the center of St Petersburg is about $85. My total transportation cost per month is about $50, this month a lot lower. But that is for a very active social and cultural life, out and about every night. My gross outflow every month is about $1400 for a very active social and cultural life that could not be duplicated by in the US for 20x that amount.. My utilities bills the last time I lived in California 24 years ago was about $3400/month but basic cost of living was $23,000 a month in the late 90s. There was far less to do or events to attend than here however so regardless of cost, quality of life and access to culture is far far better here than in the US. Most of my outflow here is lease on the Apartment. I do not know anyone over 20yo who does not own their home without debt however. In California I owned my homes free of debt and it was still very expensive. So a lot more living on a lot less money is possible and the bonus is it is virtually stress free, much safer than the US.

Russians keep making videos in grocery stores claiming that sanctions didn't impact them, well there is a good reason for this, there is no sanction against eggs, buckwheat, and pork LOL. Sanctions were made to inflict pain on the government and impede their spending. You can tell sanctions are taking effect, the ruble has fallen to 92 to 1 against the dollar, interest rates are now 15%, Russia has banned exporting gasoline. Russia only sells about 40% of the gas it sold pre-war, Russia sells 850k less barrels of oil a day, gas and oil are Russias biggest moneymakers. So some people will say well look at russias numbers they are doing great, 1st these numbers come from the Russian government, do I really need to expand on that? Second Russia is in a ponzi scheme right now selling a ton of weapons, however they sell them to themselves so it looks like sales are up but it's like of you made a chair and then bought it yourself, you used your own money. Currently Russia is living on foreign reserves it built up before the war most experts give them 6 to 12 months before this fund is gone, then things will get real interesting.
