  • Everyone knows lets say, CP 6644, one of the veterans units is an SD70ACu right? Well did you know that CP as well as a few other railways like CNR, VIA, GO as well as the GTW, DWP and the CV have their own locomotive classes?
    MY BRUDDAS! DIS IS DA WINNIPEG RAILFAN BACK FROM DE BUSHES!! This is my video explaining the weird classes of canadian railway's locomotives. I messed up in the script a few times but still hopefully i get a point across, lol.

    The Cp F9 4070 set was used in the Gene Wilder movie Silver Streak filmed around Calgary Ab. Amroad was the fictional US railroad the story takes place on. As the story unfolds across several states there are other things a sharp eye can see that are pure Canada / Alberta

    The T on CN hump units actually stands for “trim”. They are units with modified traction motor setups in order to clear the retarders. Don’t ever send a mainline unit through the retarders! You’ll have a mess.

    Back in the 80s I could tell you what almost any locomotive was at a glance. Unfortunately, there's been so many changes that I have to see the Designation numbers to know what I'm looking at now. I have a book that I purchased in about 78 that explains most of what is mentioned here except specific to the CNR. It also includes GT, CV and the subsidiary of DW&P. There was a book specific to CPR. There were also updated books that followed. In short, the numbering and classification system really hasn't changed much in 40 years. Also, I know the T units as traction units. I did spend a short amount of time with the CNR. Interesting video. I like the jabs that you get in.

    Only locomotive classes this complicated can only be used in Canada. But those that found work in the states, they’d probably be identified by their model type.

    There were three books put out by Railfare,covering CP diesels,steam,and CN steam,and maybe they did a book on CN diesels! Also 2200 South had two series on CP diesels,and CN diesels,so you might try a second hand book store,or your library,for interloans! I don't know the current status on the publishers,but there are people who know! Thanks for an interesting video! Keep up the good work! I 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚄🚄🚄🚄🚅🚅🚄🚇🚇🚇🚇🚇🚉🚉🚉🚉🚉

    Well click on the video for some info on those odd designations I'd see when Canadian units would make it down to the Chicago area ( yes kids there was a time when UP,CN ,CP,etc power was a big deal and not run of the mill) and get a surprise Silver Streak appearance, a Strange Brew/Great White North/SCTV reference and bonus anime tiddies to boot.
    The CN FA is at the Monticello railroad museum fortunately well south of Chirac but our other big museum Illinois Railway Museum is now close enough for tagging to start being an issue.

    You know, *GOOOOH* Transit used to have some really awesome K5LA Horns on their older Cab Cars. But now they're all gone and replaced by these ugly abominations with horns that sound like cancer. I wonder if those older Cab Cars also could have a unique classification like this. You see? I'm the one who cares about... *THAT RAILROAD.*

    • @rayuser1425
      @rayuser1425 3 года назад +1

      I looked it up, and GOs Cab Cars don’t have any classifications. My guess is because GO considers them as coaches rather than engines. But what’s interesting is that the MP40/54s don’t have these classifications.
