- In this video we unload another glaze kiln containing some of my own work and also my lovely talented students work. They are such a talented bunch. Gill wins Student of the Week this week for her fish platter. One of the very first pieces she has made and I know she is hooked on clay from her first course - another convert! I can’t wait to see what else she will produce in the future. The kilns have been working hard in this lovely weather; as you know we run the kilns on solar power as much as possible so they definitely earn their money in the summer. Some of the pieces from the slip casting video are unpacked in this kiln. Interesting prototype espresso mugs with black and red coloured slip. Another prototype piece is the first of my experiments with Sodium Silicate. I’ve teamed it with Amaco Palladium - which is almost a mirror finish - and Copper Oxide. Interesting and more work to do with this technique. The star of the show is definitely the two pieces on the bottom shelf glazed with Amaco June Bug. I have had some pretty amazing results with this glaze in the last few kiln firings and will definitely be using it again in the future. Beautiful iridescent lustre surface which is hard to get but worth the effort. Another of the “Elephant Ears” leaf plates is in this load. These are lovely and I think will sell well at the upcoming Art Trail in July. I shall have my studio open as part of The Chichester Art Trail on 10/11 and 17/18 July 2021 (see www.chichesterarttrail.org - venue 110) and the Southern Ceramic Group Exhibition at The Bishop’s Kitchen at Chichester Cathedral at the end of July 2021 (www.southernceramicgroup.org.uk). Be great to see you at either if you’re local. My work is available to purchase via my Etsy shop (link below) if you’d be kind enough to take a look. Hi I’m Sarah Amos. I gave up my day job and am now living the dream as a full-time potter and teacher, running courses from my studio, The Pottery Corner, in a little village just outside Chichester on the South Coast of England. With Cissy and Charlie, my studio companions, we welcome students of all abilities from complete beginners to the more experienced, teaching throwing on the potters wheel as well as handbuilding techniques. I love to share my clay experience and knowledge by passing on pottery techniques in my Top Tip Tuesday videos; which include full tutorials on items to try out yourselves. I also sell my work via my Website and Etsy Shop. So grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and let’s dive into what’s going on in The Pottery Corner today. Don’t forget to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified of when new content is published. Thanks for watching.

Hi Sarah. Love the Palladium pot, and yes, a refire should get rid of the pinholes. I have some sodium silicate to make magic water, have yet to use it on a pot, maybe next week ! Thanks for supporting my channel, I love your comments.
Hi Sally - great to hear from you again. Interesting stuff sodium silicate - I need to do some more playing with it but results thus far have been good. I love watching your throwing videos too and the kiln openings - it is just as interesting to me as my own! Great support between us potters 😄
I’ve got to get my hands on some June Bug glaze….WOW! Just gorgeous!
Hi Natalie - thanks for watching again. Bit of a revelation the June Bug results. 😁
I love your flower ring, it's a good idea, I think I'll make one for my grandson's baptism in August.
Hi Josi - thanks for watching and commenting. The flower ring is great and uses only a few garden flowers to look fabulous! 😊
Thank you! Showing the quick snap of the flower ring. Nicely done. Been in my studio most of the day. I’ll have a go (as you say) at a flower ring.
Hi Sharon- do let me see the results. Not an easy throw but I love a challenge! Thanks for watching 😁
Also love the leaf plate.
Thanks for watching again 🙂. Pretty pleased with how the leaf plates are coming out. Just loaded more into another glaze firing! Great to hear from you again 😁
I’d love a video on how you put the legs on your wonky pots. I guess it’s all about timing (like everything else in pottery) but my legs a wonkier than the pot!
Hi Keryn - I am just getting organised to do a wonky pot tutorial so stay tuned. I now have the stuff to make templates which I will put up on my Etsy shop and when I have the listing done I'll do the video. I am a bit busy with an Art Trail for the next couple of weeks but this is my next big video project. 😀👍
Oh my gracious love the June bug results! Happy as always to see what your class is up to!
Thanks Kd and always so good to hear from you too! Hope you're back in the shack and making 😀
Love that leaf platter!
Thanks so much Lorelie 🙏. Great to have you along 😀
Everything is gorgeous, especially love the flower ring. Beautiful! Will have to give that a go! Thanks for the tip on June Bug, I've never quite got it right so will put it on the bottom of my kiln next time. Looks like you've had much better weather over on the east side than we have on the west, it's been grey and overcast here.
Hi Debi- great to hear from you again. Thanks for watching and commenting. The flower ring is already on prototype 2!
Beautiful work. Love the oxide on the large leaf. Also the bowl with junebig on it is gorgeous
Thanks Laurie- I'm loving the leaves too - so simple yet effective. Thanks for watching 😁
I really like the flower ring, I'm going to give it a go, without using a wheel.
The flower ring is really pretty - I'm also trying new process to reproduce and already have an order! Looks brilliant with just three roses and a little foliage from the garden.
It was you who suggested the extruder die - it's just arrived and I am literally just about to trial it - wish me luck!!
@@thepotterycorner Oh YAYAYAYAY I can't wait to see how it works!!! You don't need luck, you've got mad skills............
@@chermckittrick2216 so far so good! I'll post some pics on Instagram soon 😁
Dear Sarah. Thank you very much for fantastics toturials. Im watching from Denmark. Are you still making videos? I Think i have seen Them all , tried a lot of glacecombination and learned so much. Thanks again and hope you are well. Sorry my bad english😊. Hope to se more from you❤.
Best regarth from Karen
Hi Karen and thanks for watching. I'm hoping to be back making more content soon. My father is poorly and I have too much to do for him at the moment. Stay tuned and I'll be back. P.s. your English is pretty perfect! 😁
Love the leaf plate. It came out so great!! Always love to see the wonky pots..love the glaze work on that one. Every time I see a finished wonky pot...I wonder how close you are to having a template available in your Etsy shop??
Hi Pat - thanks for watching again. I am almost ready to list the wonky pot templates on Etsy. Just gearing up to film the tutorial in August. Bit busy with Art Trail in July. Won't be too much longer. Keep watching! 😁
I've had great results with June Bug, but beware of Blue Spark in that range - I did a bowl half and half and the Blue Spark pinholed/cratered like mad, and the June Bug was fine. The blue spark also pinged and micro-cracked like crazy. This was using a groggy speckled clay. I'm testing it again next with a smooth white.
Thanks for the tip Ryan! I haven't ordered Blue Spark and don't think I will now! Very interesting how some of these glazes react. Great to hear from you again 😁
@@thepotterycorner I'll let you know how my next test goes with it. I also reglazed the first attempt, and it didn't improve much. I'll put it up on instagram.
I usually get pin holes with the June Bug. Maybe I’ll try to fire mine a cone higher.
Hi Kelly - I think June Bug definitely needs heat to do it's thing. I've never had results like this before. Interesting. Thanks for watching 😁
That oxide leaf is gorgeous. So is that textured iridescent textured June Bug. I hope you manage to repeat it!
May I ask have you put a clear glaze over the top of your coloured slip pieces?
Thanks for your videos xx
Hi Amanda - thanks for watching and commenting. There is a clear glaze (Mayco Stoneware Clear) dipping glaze on the slip cast pieces. I just dunk it once in the bucket and am not particularly tidy about it - works well every time! Loving the June Bug - absolutely hope to repeat it. 😀
The kiln was very exciting, lots of lovely work. I particularly liked the Amaco's June Bug. Have you used it on the outside of any pots?
Hi Jane. I have used June Bug before but didn't get these amazing results. I haven't used on the outside but somebody said it is better on the inside as the gasses swirl round - not sure exactly what that means but I think it needs the most heat you can give it in the kiln so pack at the bottom. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
@@thepotterycorner thanks that's good to know. I'm making a list at the moment of Mayco and Amaco glazes I'd like to play with.
I never have any luck with palladium but the rim on your pot is perfect. I’d love to know if you fire to come 5 or 6? With a hold? Thanks again Sarah. Ps. 27deg is almost winter here is Sydney lol.
Hi Keryn - my cone I think it between Cone 5 and Cone 6 - some Amaco glazes come out strange (Iron Lustre comes out brown rather than green) so I think it might be nearer Cone 6. I will have to check the firing schedule for the hold - if there is one it will only be for 10 minutes. It was so hot when filming that I had to cut away to mop my brow - 😵
I have not had good luck with June Bug, even though I've admired its effects. Do you dip or paint the glaze on? Thanks!
Hey Carrie and thanks for watching. I paint on my June Bug. An interesting glaze which can be spectacular if you get the irredescence coming through. I don't use it a lot and neither do the students. As you say a bit unpredictable. 😁
@@thepotterycorner Hmm, you've inspired me to get back into my June Bug again. Must do test tiles with different clays b/c i find it also reacts differently depending on clay body.
Is the June Bug meant to fire with a mottled texture? I wonder if it would be smooth if fired a bit higher?
Hi Celia - I'm loving the texture on the June Bug - feels great and the lustre is beautiful. I have fired before cooler (in the top of the kiln) and had a smooth finish but no crystals and no irresdescence- rather have the latter option 😉. Thanks for watching again
We are all solar in Colorado We traded our electric kiln for propane, as we didn’t think we could fire electric off of just our solar panels. W e built a propane kiln. Are you totally off grid?
Hi Sheila - we manage to fore most of the kiln firing from solar - especially in the summer. My students know the kilns will only go on when it's 🌞. We are not off grid here because we live in a some village close to a city so definitely couldn't manage everything off grid but we do try to do our bit. Thanks for watching. Good to have you along 😀
I need that Kilin. Can you tell me the detail
Thanks for watching. There is another video on my channel detailing my kilns if you'd like to take a look. Thanks so much 😊

Thanks Freddie - you get a mention in the one I filmed today - probably won't be published for a couple of weeks though. Still imaging you on the beach in Florida - bet you have lovely sunshine 😅
