- 2022 has been a year of transitions for MBARI with the retirement of our flagship vessel, the R/V Western Flyer, and construction of the R/V David Packard reaching major milestones. Our continued commitment to developing and deploying innovative ocean technology gives our scientists and engineers the opportunity to dive into the deep sea to advance our understanding of the changing ocean. We aim to uncover compelling ocean stories, and invite everyone to join us on this journey of exploration, science, and stewardship.
From shark fly-bys and googly-eyed squid to toothy-grinned fishes and corals the size of trees, MBARI's remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) encountered many spellbinding scenes in the deep this year. These mesmerizing moments bring the diversity of life in the deep sea through our screens into our hearts. As we continue to explore the largest-and least known habitat-on our planet, we promise to share our discoveries with you. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

How do they fish them out of the deep sea while keeping them alive?
What a fun wrap on 2022! 💙🦈🦑🐟🪸🌊
It would be nice to have a length and size associated with each animal. Some of these are gigantic, and some are tiny.
If you can imagine it, it exists!
Blessings 👐 💚
omg

0:54 Hallucinigenia?!
The Ocean is another planet entirely. Could have done without the music. Seems too upbeat for such a peaceful place.
Ah, the luxury of marine evolution, free to be most kinds of shapes, unburdened by the demands of land mobility or gravity
لا إله إلا الله
0:55 Hallucigenia??
