Randi destroyed 100's of people's careers. He himself was a great illusionist. He loved magic and all who performed. Magic is hard work to fool people with illusions. But one thing Randi detested, was people who swore down that they had 'powers'. And were not using magic. This pissed him off from an early age.
He carried a check with him for most of his career. And visited 1000's of these people who claimed to have powers. And he told them should they be able to prove to him beyond doubt they had actual powers. That he would instantly give them the check for $10,000. He never gave a check to anyone. :)
He recently said that in his entire lifetime, of all the individuals he met from 100's of Countries. That every single one of them were conmen. The ones he detested more than any and most will agree. Is the faith healers. 'donate generously now people. Hallelujah, this mans cancer is healed by my hands!' those guys. He ruined tonnes of them over the years. And i'm glad.

I miss James Randi. He called people out on their BS which needs to happen more often these days.
His reasons for getting into the business of exposing con artists are interesting. When he worked as a magician, he encountered people who were so blown away by some of his tricks that they believed it had to be actual magic, simply because they couldn't see the trick. He tried to tell people that they were, indeed, just tricks (but of course, being a magician, he couldn't reveal the trick to them). People want to live in a magical world, and when they don't understand something, it's easy to just say, "Must be magic!"

The magnet man has since undergone further investigation. He's not faking. He's not crazy. He's just not psychic or magnetic. Think of him as a X-Men-style mutant with a crappy power. His skin is super smooth (completely out of the bounds of normal) allowing it to make about 30 times as much surface contact as a normal person. In addition to this, when touched his skin releases a tiny amount of sweat and retracts just the tiniest bit creating a suction-cup-like effect.
Colin Murphy and how much cooler is the truth, and it was only obtained after asking questions, testing and observing. 🙂

I live in Korea, and that is a typical reaction in that type of situation. Now, it's definitely changing, but for thousands of years, Korea has been a mono-culture, and communal ideas, not necessarily to the level of group think, are commonplace. I think in any isolated culture, you would have communal reactions like this, and in Korea the "aaaawwwwwhhhh" reaction is merely the one they demonstrate.

The point is, that the guy also claimed to be magnetic, while he obviously isn't. However it's not unthinkable that someone's chest is magnetic. It would be super cool and fascinating to find out why. The people who believed this guy obviously didn't find it fascinating and worthy of research.
