fleeting love is a feeling true love is a choice i chose my dog almost at random, not because of anything he did to make me love him, but because i had love to give and noone to give it to i chose someone that simply looked lovable enough i love him more than anyone today, and he is healthy and happy.
By this definition, I was in love only once in my life. I was 15 years old. Since then, I haven't been able to feel it, and lately I don't think I even love myself anymore.
I was felling same as you, my heart was broke when I was 15, and then I thought love isn't even exist , or even if it is I will never feel love for someone, but last year, I meet a beautiful and innocent girl, she revealed her feelings for me, and I started feeling same damn thing again, It reminds me my feelings of my first love, feeling I forgot completely, I act like childish when I think about her,
"One can promise actions, but not feelings, for the latter are involuntary. He who promises to love forever or hate forever or be forever faithful to someone is promising something that is not in his power." -Friedrich Nietzsche Love is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision. -Erich Fromm
Whenever I here people say 'Love isn't real! Its all in your head!' or something along those lines I think of that time Harry asks, 'Tell me one last thing. Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?' And Dumbledore says, 'Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?' They weren't talking about love but I thought it applied pretty well anyway lol

Some people don’t believe in love and I used to be one of them. I thought the idea of having an indescribable feeling for a person was foolish. But then I met her and I felt that feeling in the pit of my stomach, my heart went to my throat and in a matter of days I forgot what my life was like without thinking about her everyday. Love is pain, sacrifice, and dedication. Love is selfless. Love is about giving, not taking. Love does not discriminate. Bear in mind that love has nothing to do with romance and vice versa. They are two separate phenomena which are oftentimes lumped together in various cultures. Romantic love _is strictly conditional,_ whereas love is _unconditional._ That is the chief difference imho. Love can also to turned inwards as it can be turned outwards. To love and accept others requires the ability for one to love and accept themselves as well.
Some say love is biological, but to be fair. What's the point of still loving someone who is dead or just gone? There isn't. I love my mom, my dad, my brother and my SO. But if my mom passes. I will never stop loving her. Love is one of the weirdest nonsensical things in the universe
I mean, biological doesn't always mean efficient. We today's humans have a ton of qualities and properties that aren't exactly compatible with the today's world, but we have made them work mostly. Our evolution hasn't catched up and probably won't in the future. For example, you can get addicted to unhealthy things like tobacco. Dopamine is produced but you are getting cancer. Another example of the biological working against itself or failing is that we have made it okay and often might even want to not have children, which is against the biological meaning of life.
@@arttukettunen5757 you worded that last part conveying that the fact that not wanting children is ok is bad. Bearing in mind overpopulation, it's simply a good thing it's ok. Love still flourishes between infertile or gay couples, and those who opt for adoption.
Love is a four letter word used to explain stuff that is usually positive •I love my parents •I love adventures •I love penguins •I love the way he teaches etc.

"Love is the state in which man sees things most of all as they are 'not'. The illusion-creating force is there at its height, likewise the sweetening and 'transforming' force. One endures more when in love than one otherwise would, one tolerates everything..." - FWN
This is a phenomenal video, Perfectly covered from the accurate biology behind love to the more human raw feeling part of it. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 (NIV)
Without watching this yet. I'll answer it. Love is often confused for lust and we associate it with our carnal desires. Sadly many people feel they don't love someone anymore because they can't be satisfied by them. This is 100% the wrong way to look at this. We also throw the word around loosely and it really dilutes the true feelings associated with it. When you truly love your life partner or significant other or best friend, it's not different than the love you have for close family. Your carnal desires have nothing to do with it. Love is when no matter how tough things may get, you'll do anything for someone to help better their life. Even if it means sacrificing your friendship in the end because you feel it's the only way to help the other person or giving your life to save them. When you have different world views and you still tolerate one another and take care of each other when either of you are sick. And so on.

I had an English lesson about this topic a few months ago. I didn’t really understand it that much, but it did enlighten me a little bit. This video helped me understand love better.
Love isn't just a "chemical reaction", or whatever people try to place it as. __Love is both a feeling and a choice.__ True love is doing things you don't feel like doing, regardless of what you want. You make the conscious decision every morning/day, when you see them, to love that person. "I am going to love them, whether I have the emotion/wanting to do it or not, because this person holds more importance to me than myself." Even if the other person never sees it that way. Bringing "that" up (out of anger; twisted) would only be trying to justify your side, which is reactive jealousy. It may feel like a loss afterwards, but that's only natural. The difference is, both hatred and sorrow are uniquely divergent. You recover from sorrow overtime, but you "satisfy" yourself from hatred after you get what you believe is deserved. If you become bitter/jealous over something which they have in that case, it will only get worse. Love is not jealous. Ask yourself this.. Can I still celebrate this person, even when they have the very thing I want for myself? You can desire what they have, but jealousy has two sides. It's the idea of "I want what you have", but then the deeper aspect of jealousy is oh, "I wish you didn't have what you have". That's when jealousy gets really deep seated, deep rooted, and very severe. Anyway, most people don't see it that way, and most people choose that it should be both ways. (If it isn't, they only were in it to also be loved back, which is "Conditional" Love.) However, Yes, it should be, but true love is not dependent on both sides cooperating to the same goal. "Unconditional" Love is when you truly love the person, despite/regardless of what they can give or offer. That love is beyond desire and passion, unselfish and thoughtful, and the morality of both trust and self-sacrifice. It's both hard and unfair when it isn't reciprocated back.. After that, it's a choice. After all, knowledge leads capacitation (capacity) for choice. Ask yourself this.. 1. Can I look out for the best interest of this person, even when, they are disregarding mine? 2. Can I put up with this person over a long period of time, even if they never ever change?
Speaking as someone who doesn't experience romantic or sexual love, those types of love sound like the symptoms of a heart attack. Are you all sure that you're okay?
Love..., it's basically Attachment. When one becomes attached to anything, people essentially, disappointment and suffering will inevitably ensue. So I've begun the process of detaching myself from the myriad of things and people as much as I know I can, because ultimately Life in the end is about Letting Go of everything and everyone. The only thing you can keep and will die with you are memories. So even after letting go, you'll still suffer the memories in your last hour.
actually i don't think that's the case. attachment is lust and also memories which is also knowledge, knowledge is always in the past just like attachment. but love is always in the now.if you've felt love and kept it as memory then it becomes desire and will inevitably will bring suffering. ultimately you must free your self from the emotional registration of facts that happening around you but that needs a lot self enquiry. the hardest think to let go at the end is the self which is your past. true love exist when there is no "i" and when "i" doesn't exists there is only now.
I think there’s so many different meanings to the word “love” that we need words for the type of love it is, like the Greeks. It’s such a hard word to work around because there’s one word in which you can define in multiple ways.
Love is when you get through that experience when you finally feel your inside self like a light cold wind lighlty blows on grass in cloudy sunny day. no problems, no depression, when you just live your life by your wholesome self.
For those who struggle finding self-love, try to think it the other way around: since you are able to love others, you can love yourself too. I personally find the "if you don't love yourself you won't be able to fully love others" a dangerous trap. One can purposely avoid loving relationships because of it, getting even lonelier.
Agreed. If we had to “love ourselves to receive love” many people would not be in relationships or even married. We’re all flawed and insecure and we should never that stop us from receiving love. However if we genuinely are self-loathing and don’t take care of ourselves then love will be more difficult to achieve with others… Even if someone loves us we won’t be able to feel it if we can’t love ourselves… that’s why love is even better when we can create those feelings within ourselves first:). Iunno my ramblings, great comment.
Yup it is a dangerous trap, especially when its taken too literally. I think it initially was meant for people who (like me) dealt with self loathing, do not have appreciation for who they are, think that their happiness is others' responsibility, who put ppl on a pedestal and who give so much of themselves but not enough to themselves... I do sometimes have trouble loving others, not because i don't love myself but because I now have high standards and don't want to get disappointed... ( T_T)
@@cosmicseaweed1990 I guess it started with being okay with things, no matter how good or bad they were. I was being so hard on myself, ( I told myself that I deserved this, it was my fault etc) but then I realised, I didn't deserve what happened but it's exactly what i needed to grow And become who I AM today. But yeah, It requires lots of patience. Meditation And positive affirmations helped so much. One thing that I struggled a lot with was Forgiveness, we are taught to forgive others so much that we forget to forgive ourselves... well, hope that helped. ☺️
Love is an ability to surrender, accept and lose your self for the sake of others,Few people have that ability. Its really hard to love something without expecting anything in return in today's materialistic world.
when i was younger, i agreed with this vision, but now ( i'm 17) when i think of love, i asking myself why do the humain body have this phenomena? Like all of us now it's neurological, but why do we have it? and as said in this video, it's maybe for parent to love their child, or for people to procreate. and philosophy is just asking why? I dont know if i'm clear or not, if you have any question about it, feel free ps: i'm french so i may commit some mistakes, if you spot any of them, tell me
Yes. Everything told in video is only diven through neurology only since they are all abstract. But it's that you need a living human to experience all that..
Aperture, I want to thank you for all of the videos you have made. This has really helped so many people probably more than you would think. It is amazing how a single video can help me to move on and just love myself thank you so much. -your day 1 fan
To me love is a choice. Every time I think about someone in my class and think about what if I get a crush un this person? And then I do somehow fall in love with them just by thinking about them half the time. So yeah I CAN tell myself to fall in love with one specific person and I think most people do it unconsciously too.
This video is amazing, i may not be feeling the best these days, but i still love your videos. This video has a great lesson in it and makes me think about things a little bit more positive or just makes me wonder about things like these without negative thoughts. So thanks your videos make me smile :D
Love is a feeling. It’s an abstract sensation. Probably some form of abstract neuronal structure. I think emotions in general are kind of like how thinking is talking without triggering vocal muscles. However, it’s even lower layers of neurons than that, like phantom limb syndrome without ever having limbs to begin with (so it’s abstract). I think there’s something more to it than just physical sensations though, some spiritual or metaphysics thing that we don’t understand yet.
THE ANSWER OF THIS QUESTION IS EASY! ONE SIMPLE WORD ANSWER IT. WHAT IS LOVE? LOVE IS GIVE. GIVE WITHOUT EXPECTATIONS TO HAVE NOTHING IN RETURN. LOVE IS DONATION. LOVE IS SACRIFICE. LOVE IS GIVE! THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF LOVE. EVERYTHING ELSE ISNT LOVE. LOVE IS GIVE!!!!!!!!!! UNCONDICIONALITY. WHAT IS LOVE? LOVE IS GIVE.
TO THE CHANNEL HOST: YOU MADE A GREAT AND IMPRESSIVE VIDEO!!! Great topic and really well done. I am 67 years old and I have fallen in love several times in my lifetime. I don‘t think it‘s a choice at all in the initial and middles stages. It‘s outta control stuff, really. The serious ones were cases that I describe (for me) as an illness. An emotional illness that causes one to go mad and do things that aren‘t rational. I sold everything I owned and moved to Egypt 17 years ago. We are still together, I still live in Egypt. Regrets? Some. Sometimes. But, it turned into a destiny. A strange thing, this thing called love.
Very well stated on all points. I have told so very many that love is. End of story. "Why do you love me?", makes no sense. I love you, I say, because I do.
love: to hold any object, person, or idea, in the same regard as oneself. to regard the existence of oneself and the other to have equal value. basically in a life or death situation, their life is just as important as yours
'Billy' Eduard Albert Meier (BEAM): "Love is the absolute certainty of co-living and co-existing in everything that exists: In fauna and flora, in fellow human beings, in every material and spiritual life form of any kind, and in the existence of the entire universe and beyond."
To the *incredible person* that's seeing this, I wish you all the best in life❤ don't over blame yourself, accept things and go forward. You are precious and the keys to a happy life is in your hands. Stay Positive.
I'm heavily conflicted. I'm a married husband and father for these past 8 years. But recently have fallen head over heels for someone else. I've developed a sense of passion for this person, and I'm conflicted. Love is a beautiful thing. But as well can be costly.
Can't believe you inspired me to write a piece expounding on the term love and here you are talking about it. Big coincidence but most of all keep going💯
It's always the truth that we aren't wrong, not even once. The way @Aperture explained, we are always in love, and I believe we do, even in afterlife, we get the Love we once had when we were full of life, and that's true. Have a good life y'all. 🖤

Love is a decision, it is a judgment, it is a promise. If love were only a feeling, there would be no basis for the promise to love each other forever. A feeling comes and it may go. How can I judge that it will stay forever, when my act does not involve judgment and decision.

Whenever I here people say 'Love isn't real! Its all in your head!' or something along those lines I think of that time Harry asks,
'Tell me one last thing. Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?'
And Dumbledore says, 'Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?'

We as a society will NEVER stop thinking 'Baby don't hurt me' as soon as someone asks What is love lmao
I don't believe in unconditional love. It's a fallacy. Everything has conditions. Including the love from mother to child.
Some say love is biological, but to be fair. What's the point of still loving someone who is dead or just gone? There isn't. I love my mom, my dad, my brother and my SO. But if my mom passes. I will never stop loving her. Love is one of the weirdest nonsensical things in the universe
Well said man....well said.
Another example of the biological working against itself or failing is that we have made it okay and often might even want to not have children, which is against the biological meaning of life.
it's actually chemical and not biological
What is grief if not love persevering?
@@arttukettunen5757 you worded that last part conveying that the fact that not wanting children is ok is bad. Bearing in mind overpopulation, it's simply a good thing it's ok. Love still flourishes between infertile or gay couples, and those who opt for adoption.

I think Love can only be felt, you can't describe it! it's like an abstract phenomenon from which you can get different meanings! I just love Love 💕

2. Can I put up with this person over a long period of time, even if they never ever change?
well thought out, and well articulated. long comment but worth the read fs, thank you for that

"Love is serious mental illness."
~Plato
Speaking as someone who doesn't experience romantic or sexual love, those types of love sound like the symptoms of a heart attack. Are you all sure that you're okay?
^^^ yeah, we're fine.
Regardless of your take on love, it is pretty incredible that it exists in the universe and be able to experience and observe how powerful it is.
@@anestos2180 , live another 21 years and reconsider your theory
I agree with your assessment, Carl.
This is such a life changing video. I searched “what is love” last night and this was the answer. Thank you ❤️

It all starts and it all ends….with you
I love how some videos end with the most wonderful last words
For those who struggle finding self-love, try to think it the other way around: since you are able to love others, you can love yourself too.
I personally find the "if you don't love yourself you won't be able to fully love others" a dangerous trap. One can purposely avoid loving relationships because of it, getting even lonelier.
How you feel about yourself is often mirrored in how you treat other people.
@@nawee6801 how did you learn to love yourself?
I may not agree with everything he says but this video is beautiful!
The way I see it is that love is simply a neurological phenomena.
when i was younger, i agreed with this vision, but now ( i'm 17) when i think of love, i asking myself why do the humain body have this phenomena? Like all of us now it's neurological, but why do we have it? and as said in this video, it's maybe for parent to love their child, or for people to procreate. and philosophy is just asking why? I dont know if i'm clear or not, if you have any question about it, feel free
ps: i'm french so i may commit some mistakes, if you spot any of them, tell me
@@mickaelcoulon5604 Damn right my man. I agree.
Just like every other human emotion, some being more complex than others..your point?
Yes. Everything told in video is only diven through neurology only since they are all abstract. But it's that you need a living human to experience all that..

A strange thing, this thing called love.

love: to hold any object, person, or idea, in the same regard as oneself. to regard the existence of oneself and the other to have equal value. basically in a life or death situation, their life is just as important as yours
