    As a normal person who uses this car as a daily driver, it’s a really good car. Feels real nice. I’m not all about every spec and every feel, it’s just a very good sturdy daily driver. The infotainment is not bad at all. The true touch is a good concept and I don’t have a million gross finger prints on the touch screen. Driver controls the music only the driver should control it.

      My kids can control to music too by grabbing my phone off the charger or using the arrow buttons just below the power button next to the TouchPad. We haven't had a problem with passenger infotainment control.

    LOL! The "bad" reviewer (I guess the name is Paul) needs to learn the meaning of the concept 'optimum.' If, you ask him about the best of the best of the best, I am sure he will start giving a lecture about the NOT existence of a PERFECT car. Yet, he whines about a perfectly built vehicle to obtain the optimum level, being mediocre. It is true that there is no such thing as perfect car. That's why engineers strive to achieve the optimum car. The optimum car does not excel on anything but does better than average on most aspects. If, this car reviewer can't understand that decently performing vehicle is not mediocre, just because it is not the best, but it could well be the optimum vehicle, he should stop reviewing cars.
    This MDX, just like most of the Japanese cars, is more than the sum of its parts, a perfect recipe for an optimum vehicle.

      Langolier, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments.... Paul is looking for the Perfect Car. He will never be satisfied. The other fellow is more in tune with the overall car. I just got mine this week. I absolutely Love it (Love maybe a too strong word for a car, so I Like it ALOT), after driving the new Telluride - too "floaty" and hated the silver control Buttons on the Dash), and coming form a 2019 MDX which I traded in ( on a lease -which had Equity). It handles better , is more "sporty" , much more stylish and clearly Updated over the 2019. Got mine in Fathom Blue Pearl with a Graystone Leather interior which Great - much more uniform than the Espresso interior that you see all over the InterWeb. There are VERY FEW Blue Acuras / Hondas out there of any year in my area {NY Metro Suburbia] that I notice. But I don't care ..... It look great with the Graystone leather. One of the best Vehicles I have ever had . I'm 69 yo, and have had LOTS of cars in my life. Some of them were exciting to get, others were only MEH.... But this 2022 MDX is exciting. The only 2 things that brings the rating to Fantastic from Outstanding is: The Touch Pad INfoT; and Acura removed the nice feature of an Internal Hard Drive / CD player I had in the 2019. You could play your CDs once, record them to the Huge HD and create playlists, scroll through your music , etc. Now I'm stuck with having to convert my CDs to a Flashdrive (which compresses the Music from the CD Audio format), and/or play Streamed Music from TIDAL, SPOTIFY , PANDORA (which if you want uninterrupted music you have to pay monthly fees !!),

      Well, they try to play the "good cop, bad cop" movie cliche, in the car review game.
      I wrote the comment to show that it is NOT working, because trying to be critical about a superior machine won't work, since you have to exaggerate some aspects of the car to be able to do that. This is equal to lying or not being realistic..
      And, yes, Acura MDX is one of the best products in the market with its high quality and superior engineering, that guaranties reliability and functionality.

    The nitpicking about it not being what it’s not is beyond annoying. It’s not a sports sedan! If you want a sporty mdx the type s is coming. A-spec is an appearance package. No different than Honda putting “sport” on the back of an accord, relax!

    • @Bnizzofashizzo

      This is with EVERY review. It’s like listening to people complain about why an lime isn’t as sour as a lemon. It’s not supposed to be ! Acura fortunately knows who their customer base is and honestly it’s people like me, in my early 40s, with money to spend, on a reliable vehicle that I want to put 200+ thousand miles on. I want it to be reliable and I know exactly what reliability I’m going to be getting out of the 3.5 L naturally aspirated V6. 290 hp is more than enough to get me through the 45 at 50 mile an hour speed zones to and from work and up and down the freeway on the weekends and on road trips to neighboring states if I wish. It looks great. It’s extremely comfortable and it’s going to be my next car. I don’t plan on racing anyone at every stop sign but if I do need to jump in front of someone, there’s enough power to do so. More than likely, I won’t be using the paddle shifters but I will sometimes need to bring a large purchase home in my trunk.
      Acura knows there’s someone like me or a family of four or retirees etc. is going to buy this vehicle and absolutely love it. We shop insurance premiums and don’t want speeding tickets. It will give us the same type of pep that midsize SUVs tout and will be happy with it. Also, the type S isn’t quite as impressive given how heavy this vehicle is and it’s a smaller engine. If you really want the type of power and a luxury SUV, that’s going to put a huge smile on your face, you better grab 100,000 off the bank and tap BMW on the shoulder but without a doubt, unless you’re leasing it, if you purchase that vehicle, That smile will be wiped off of your face when the repair bill start to arrive

      Agreed, super confusing review and this left me thinking that the reviewers were almost confused in THEIR identify vs the car being confused in its identify. To me, the MDX makes perfect sense. It’s strange I’ve seen a couple reviews now of people not liking the MDX because it rides too luxurious and not sporty enough. I find that to be a strange complaint. If it drove more sporty people would say it’s not refined enough, now it’s too refined and not sporty enough. It seems like Acura is always held to such a high standard. I don’t get it. Wait for the Type-S it should give you that rigid sportiness you’re looking for.

    • @sshhddoo9892
      @sshhddoo9892 3 года назад

      The problem is the germans do it better and they are both refined and sporty. For the price, if you can spend more just go with a german competitor, if you want to spend less, just get a fully loaded CX-9 to be honest. And we all know Honda can do better they just choose not to.

    • @AFCompany
      @AFCompany 3 года назад +5

      @@sshhddoo9892 for him to compare the MDX to a telluride is ridiculous to me. The top end telluride is less than the starting price of an MDX and a Kia isn’t a luxury car. The Telluride competes with the CX-5, Highlander, Pallisade, and Pilot and doesn’t even sells as much as them. All those economy cars sell hundreds of thousands of cars a year. The MDX competes in the luxury segment and is absolutely dominating it at the moment leading the entire segment in sales. Of course the telluride is going to drive more rigid and less refined because it’s not a luxury car. I guarantee if a X5 drove like a telluride he would find it unacceptable. However simply because the A-spec is a sport appearance package but drives like a luxury car not a sporty car it bothers him. I don’t know how anyone can think the ZF9 was better than the new 10 speed. Or that the last generation was more responsive. I don’t think he’d get in an XC90 and say it doesn’t drive sporty enough. It’s simply because the MDX looks sporty that he has this issue.

      Totally agree…….For some reason every and I do mean every car reviewer absolutely refuses to call out the German cars in any way at all. This review is assuming that the German cars offer everything in their SUV’s and they do not. And the other reviewer comparing a Telluride to the MDX is way off base and in no way does it out perform or handle better than the MDX. We’ll see what the excuses will be with the Type S that will deliver more horsepower that the standard V6 variants with all the options that would easily total in the mid to high 70k range in the German vehicles.

      That's BS. I test drove this back to back with an X5 and the Acura was FAR sportier. Firmer and more controlled ride. Better turning effectiveness. Very stable. The X5 felt very floaty and very insecure. The steering felt completely disconnected. The MDX drove like my X3 M40i without the same power. That's the only thing that's missing for me in the non-Type-S MDX.

    You guys need to remember that the buyers of this SUV target the US buyers not european buyers ,you both forgot that Americans had a lot of cars to dispose and use in their garage..the fun part you are looking for are americans we can get with their muscle cars and for hauling like trucks whichyou can see mostly in every household here in US but for daily use only and picking up kids with a lot of sense of comfort and luxury feels and comfortable to drive long distance as we loved to drive long haul. Its way cheaper than the germans and reliable and thats important for the americans bec americans love to buy cars unlike the european. Honestly americans enjoy more than the europeans in general driving and buying cars, in europe you barely can get this SUV by genara population due to its price and probably thats why this car makers made all this choices for everybody and dont forget his MDX are the most selling SuV in its class beating the germans and american makers and the important is its reliable than any of themakers in the market and thats what save you money so you can get more and more cars to experience and thats the fun factor for many general people who can afford diffrent cars they can experience.
    The reviewers forgot not everybody loves what they like in cars. Using and reviewing cars a lot feels like bias most of time bec the genarl public do nit have those experince they can compared. The reason why in US people own various cars in their lifetime comoare to european counterpart due to its affordability and accessibility of these cars to the genera public.

Todd is actually assessing it based on how it drives within the perspective of it's category (price/size included). This isn't new with Paul. SHAWD is amazing (even in our 2nd gen MDX). Do your homework. Sloppy sloppy. Fact: the MDX has grown 10 inches in length since its inception. It's just packaged poorly. Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot are not bigger. Just packaged better. Sloppy. And sloppy.

      A lot of that has to do with the design brief/philosophy. Telluride and Pilot compete in a segment where interior volume is priority 1 (typically). MDX competes in a cateogry (sort of) with the likes of Lexus RX, BMW X5, Merc GLE, Genesis GV80, etc where style/tech take precedence over interior volume.

    Is the 4th Gen MDX perfect? No. very few vehicles are. However, we're now 3 model years in and take a look at not just what is said about the car, but who is saying it.
    Reviewers take issue with various things in their short time with the vehicle, like the touchpad (steep learning curve, not perfectly optimized for AA/AC) or the fuel economy (mediocre - not horrific but not great). As an owner, I get it. There are things to be desired.
    That said, listen to what the owners are saying. The touchpad is not that polarizing. It's hard to love or see as the future in market infotainment, but it's fine. You get used to it. The fuel economy is mediocre compared to say, an I-4 Highlander, but the MDX is infinitely more fun and dynamic to drive. It's not even close in that respect.
    Owners trade these in for the latest gen constantly. There are shortcomings and flaws in every generation, as with any vehicle. Just take a look at how passionately owners love their MDX's in spite of their flaws to get a real idea of what it's like to own one.

    Sorry Paul, not sporty enough 4500 lb SUV? Went to trade my Genesis 2023 G80 2.5t Sport Prestige eight months old and 22k flawless miles. Traded my 2022 Genesis GV70 3.5t Sport Advanced with 31k flawless miles to get the G80. Big believer in what Genesis is producing and thought for sure I’d be in a 2024 Genesis GV80 2.5t Prestige.
    The Acura dealer was right next to Genesis and the rep was able to sell both so I started by test driving a 2024 MDX Advance for shits and giggles. Then walked over and tested the beautiful GV80 and realized I hated the rock hard POS seat. Why…I got a G80, what’s the beef? The problem was my butt memory moments before driving the MDX said Huston we have a problem. When I got out I had to double check that seat bladder wasn’t all jacked up in the Genesis.
    With as much time I spend in the saddle, the MDX was the obvious choice. That’s why you get an MDX not for sporty! I’ll drive my C6 if I need to scratch that sporty itch, not look for an SUV. Keeping an extra $7,000 in my wallet was kind of nice too.

I've driven a bunch of the new crop of SUVs in search of a next family hauler (everything from Telluride to BMW X7/Merc GLS as far as pricing... only one I haven't had a chance in yet is a GV80 but it's on the list) and the MDX is remarkably good as a not too big, but just enough space to still offer a very car like drive and a bit of fun, very rare in a 3 row mid sizer that's under 80k

    Hey Guys, this was a really Fun and Informative Car review with nice contrasting comments. I'm out there shopping for a potential replacement to my current car: 2019 Acura MDX Advance. Leased until June 2022. I'm a Grandpa , 69, retired just this past month, unfortunately due to spinal disabilities / arthritis (SUX BIG TIME), and didn't need and won't need a 3 row SUV. Love the space , but don't need the 3rd row. I would really like to see a survey performed of the public who elect to take on a 3rd Row SUV to determine how many people Really Use that feature?? IMO, if you really have that need with 3 or more kids, then get Minivan (many now have AWD). Love to see you guys do this for other SUVs : 2021 Kia Sorento SX / Hyundai Santa Fe , VW Tiguan ... PS: Agree with the comments about that Freakin Touch Pad which Turned me off on the RDX in 2019 & it is perplexing that Acura didn't up the engine specs with just a slight tweak on the HP and Torque without the need for the new Turbo version coming in the next few months. Be well.

    Personal taste vary...for me the Telluride exterior is wanting. It looks too rugged and lacks that refinement that comes with the MDX. I love the cockpit sensation the MDX gives....like you and the vehicle moving as one and not the vehicle moving around you. That's the difference which makes the MDX a better driving experience for me. If someone is more focused on tech, then the Telluride or Palisades have the upper hand. But gizmos are my priority.

    I feel like they deliberately held back on power so they could push the Type S MDX which will be the minimum of which this should have for size/weight. But its going to likely cost 10G more and at that price i don't think its the best in category. Other vehicles start looking better in that range. And they are out pricing it for me to afford also and I'm sure many feel the same. I did test drive the week it came out and was underwhelmed after test driving the GV80 2.5liter back to back. The Genesis wasn't amazing with the smaller motor but still felt better than the MDX power. And the giant infotainment screen that is touchscreen made it wayyyyy more attractive.

    EDDs , just got my new 2022 MDX Advance. It is one very Pleasing vehicle. I'm sorry I don't know your names. I am truly Excited by it. The styling , the driving / handling enhancements, fit and finish, the many " amenities", the comfort, and the Safety controls make this SUV an outstanding value. The first guy , says it very well, You feel you are driving a smaller vehicle , Planted, not floaty, very enjoyable tpo drive. I'm 69 YO, retired, and now can't wait for the excuse to do for drive. It is a Faux Paux that Acura (who probably invested a lot of $$$ into the Infotainment system (TTIP) 0 so no turning back), is using the Touch Pad. Should have been a Touch Screen w/o a doubt. Even better : have Both. Your review is about the mechanics mostly, but readers should be aware that the 16 Speaker ELS stereo system is Outstanding which can be self tailored to individual tastes .... I haven't been able to do that yet, but playing it Right out of the Box , in the default mode... Sweet !!! Oh yeah, I had an internal HD / CD player in my 2019 , this one eliminated that .. Too Bad. Now I need to copy all my CDs onto USB Flash Drives. The internal HDD allowed for easy access to all your music. Play the CD once, record it to the HD , and you had complete control of Playlists, scrolling thru , etc. Now I have to use Flash drives and Stream the Music form the Streamers , which costs $$$ each month for Uninterrupted Music . I own the MDX and I can say I think its missing 40HP for its size and the fact it loses HP due to AWD drivetrain losses. That is the feedback I left acura. I also chose this over a bmw because it had a better quality interior (real leather not syntec) and I was willing to lose HP in my choice. The 10speed hides it well but you know it needs more.

    We had a 2016 MDX, and just replaced it. We looked at the new MDX, but ultimately ended up with a top-end Telluride. Why? The biggest reasons were that new MDX has a worthless third row, and the infotainment controls are crap (I had an RDX loaner for days and couldn’t get used to it, and as you pointed out it’s infuriating for passengers). Those are basically the same problems we had with our 2016 MDX, so why upgrade to one that has the same problems? And for most of the day to day typical three-row family hauler stuff, the Kia is better - better cruise/self driving, better infotainment tech, more comfortable ride, and better use of interior space (like they said in this video of the MDX: “As big as this is, where did the space go???”). The MDX retains its “best handling” crown among three rows in this $40-$60k price range, but that’s not why we buy a three-row SUV, and other than that the Kia was an easy win.

I don't really need 3rd Row seating BUT the Touch Pad on the RDX, no employed into all new Acura Cars , Turned me Off !!! I 'm not looking at the Telluride (Good Luck, bc it is a really nice Ride), but seriously looking at the new 2012 Sorento SX with a2.5 Turbo. Santa Fe too...

    • @chrisrobles2012

      Weird because the MDX felt bigger than a bmw and way bigger than our outgoing RDX. Kids easily get in and out now and can place their bags in the floor row . The third row is down unless we need it.
      I have a 2019 ridgeline and they are very close to the same size.
      The touchpad took a few days to get use to. Every one is complaining about having a touch pad but the screen is too far away. Second, acura gave a touchscreen and everyone complained they wanted buttons because it was too hard to change the volume and settings while driving.
      So now the MDX doesn’t have a touchscreen and everyone is complaining again.
      I passed on the new RDX because of the silver gauges . The new MDX has a full digital gauge , lighting package , sensors, camera, and is on par with bmw on how it handles.
      The MDX will hold its value while the Kia or Hyundai will lose more over time. It’s unfortunate if you like to trade in. But if you hold for 10 yrs not a problem.

    • @rogersmj
      @rogersmj 3 года назад

      @@chrisrobles2012 You clearly haven’t been in a Telluride, because it makes the MDX feel cramped. You can equivocate all you want but the fact is that the “absolute position” touchpad is turning people off, big time. It’s as bad as the clunky dual-screen setup in our ‘16 MDX, just bad in a different way. Yeah, the screen is too far away to be a touch screen - that’s part of the bad design choices!
      I’m not worried about trade-in value, but interestingly there are Tellurides nearly 2 years old that are going for over 90% of their *new* MSRP. They are currently the depreciation champs in this segment.

    • @chrisrobles2012
      @chrisrobles2012 3 года назад +1

      Matt Rogers ,
      Passenger side front interior looks blah, driver gauges are old with no digital gauge. 2nd Captains chairs, so a missing middle seat and reminds me of a van.3rd row is tight for an adult. Rear storage looks to be less than the MDX.
      Overall, there isn’t extra space unless you are 4ft tall with the front seats all the way forward, 2nd row all the way forward. And with only seating 4 normally why not get a crossover suv? The 3rd row only fits another 2 .
      Outside front looks like a Yukon or gmc product. I only liked the rear for its different unique look.
      For the highest model, 50k could be a bargain for what they offer but the depreciation of a Kia is insane.
      I’d rather take my chances with a stinger as my first Kia [new]. In fact I’d rather buy it used and save 30%+.
