    I've seen about fifty different camera reviews and this was very helpful to me as I am keeping my Canon for photo and going to the FZ2500 for travel video. Thanks.

    Derek,
    You are what I call A MEAT & POTATOES GUY; a straight shutter.
    This is the kind of report that I love to watch: no gimmicks, no post edition, no shitty background music...MEAT & POTATOES.
    Thanks for your time and thanks for sharing.
    I do hope to see your FZ-2500 testings in the following weeks.
    Keep us posted, please.
    Keep on sharing.

    Derek, the Panasonic DMC-FZ2500 may be short of perfect but as you well know, when it comes to cameras, $1,000 doesn't buy perfect. Dollar for dollar, there is nothing on the market today that can compare to this camera.

    I had the rx10m3 and loved it but returned it for all the same reasons that you mentioned... I think the Panasonic fz2500 should be the point and shoot camera of the year.. Hope you can do more vids on it.. Thanks you, have a great channel..

      Derek Yeo it seems to vary with many it's just as sharp, think there maybe a quality control issue.

    I am definitely switching my "goto" camera from a Canon T6S to this Panasonic FZ2500. I love this bad boy BECAUSE it is the first DSLR that is laid out and operates like a Video Camera and I'm a big video guy (past productions are 150-180 projects a year) BTW, too bad the Rode Video Micro isn't a condenser. If it were I'd say the dynamic audio range would have greater fidelity.

    Hey, I know this video is older, but I have a question, and I couldn't find it anywhere on the internet. *Does the Panasonic FZ 2500 record sound when recording 120fps?* Because that is essential for me, (I don't want to record separately, too much work to do with 100+ clips) because I'm looking at a camera that can do that, that isn't a go pro or a phone. I would be happy for an answer, thanks.

    Hi Derek. Thank you for your video.
    May i ask for a comparison between the FZ-1000 and the FZ-2000. Do you think the FZ-2000 is really worth the extra $$?

    • @derekvc
      @derekvc  7 лет назад

      one of the main advantages would be the ND Filters and the Zoom Range as well as the Smooth Zoom . if you do not find you care for these features then the FZ1000 is still a great camera. There again is the price difference between the two cameras. If the gap is marginal then I would not hesitate to go for the newer model.

    excellent video, was looking at the rx10iii for the 600mm but it's well overpriced, just bought the fz2000 as it is in the uk for £899, £500 cheaper than the Sony. Imo the fz has all the features the Sony should have at its price point but lacks them.

    • @MrPetebuster1
      @MrPetebuster1 7 лет назад +1

      ***** The RX is an excellent camera no doubt, I'll probably add one when the price drops a bit but I do believe it should have some of the features the fz has brought to the table that it lacks which imo doesn't quite justify it's price

    Instead of just talking about features, you should show a side by side video comparison with crops and in various conditions. RX10 should have more detailed 4K image due to whole sensor 5K readout (FZ2000 crops the sensor while recording 4K). Bigger sensor area should also give better bokeh, low-light performance and the overall IQ.
    You have a great occasion to do a first comparison of these cameras and you just talk about things that we can check in specs...

    • @MrKuba105000
      @MrKuba105000 7 лет назад

      I recommend you Nikon Lens Simulator. It's an online tool, where you can see how the image looks at different focal lengths. The difference between 480 and 600 mm is smaller than most people think ;)

    • @derekvc
      @derekvc  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you gentlemen for the comments. You are indeed right, I should have done a comparison with various crops but i have to apologize as I had already sold the RX10 M3 to it's new buyer and i had very limited time remaining with it thus unable to do more comparisons.

    • @derekvc
      @derekvc  7 лет назад

      Diego no worries mate! I would have love to compare if given the opportunity but just bad timing the new owner was leaving on a vacation hence had to do a quick video. Anyway even if the RX10 M4 has a touch screen I am pretty sure it will not perform as well as the Panny. I have tested the A6500 touch screen and it is quite a joke really! Nevertheless, if they added ND filters, touch and 5k i might just hop back to the SONY as well. :)

    2:00 All well and good but you don't tell us why you need a flip out screen. This is the main reason I will not buy the FZ2000 instead of the Sony.
    Unlike you I will explain my reasons....
    I just can't bear working with a flip out screen like Canon and Panasonic (I use those as examples as people tend to get mixed up when discussing screens).
    So, for photography and example...I am working in a fast paced, pressurised situation, often in a confined space. I have the camera at my eye and I see that I need to shoot quickly from a low angle.
    With the flippy out screen I will need to bring over my left hand, pull it out from the back, flip it around, re-align it, then I have to constantly look to my left away from the direction of my subject. Then if I 'think' I may need to shoot from low down again very soon I have to make the decision to leave it out, which in a lot of situations makes me conspicuous... or alternatively I re-align, twist and place it back having to use two hands in the process...then quickly I have to pull it out, twist, re-align and look away again...or leave it out which also nearly doubles the width of the camera...then repeat and repeat....or alternatively I spend the next 20 mins with the screen permanently out like an idiot.
    With the current screen on the Sony's, the Nikons and the Fujifilm's I can lower the camera very quickly and ease the screen out with a finger, then back with a finger if I wish to. I remain inconspicuous, the camera width is not affected and I don't have to walk around with the screen permanently out. It is massively quicker, massively more discreet and massively more convenient.
    For video the tilt out screen is even less convenient because you never shoot vertically.
    The only benefit I see with the tilt out sceen is for vlogging and the way I see it is that's why Sony may relent because the Vloggers like you have the voice, all over RUclips the (I won't say stupid, I say selfish) Vloggers are screaming for the flip out screen because it benefits them, in my eyes it certainly doesn't benefit photographers and filmmakers...it is a burden.
    Now all the above is my opinion and I do feel strongly about it, I am not saying others shouldn't feel strongly about a flip outs screen...but if you haven't used one in a fast moving stressful enironment then honestly be careful what you wish for.

    In the UK this can be had for £699/$800 and a £200/$250 cashback. £499/580 is an absolute bargain.

    Buy a darn screen and put it on the Sony RX10, I got the Panasonic and the screen already gone totally dark, seems like the screen only lasted one year of using then burned out

  • @scarcesense6449
    @scarcesense6449 7 лет назад +1

    I'm really considering this, but I'm torn between two very different options.
    How are you supposed to choose between a FZ2500 and a GX8?
    In my market they're about the same price with the cheap 14-42mm lens on the GX8, or not much more to upgrade to the 14-140mm powerzoom.
    Similar feature set but with obvious trade offs; to get similar zoom levels I'd have to buy a lens worth more than the rest of the kit combined, but I keep coming back to the weatherproofing of the GX8, and the larger sensor given I'd like to try nightscapes and astrophotography.
    Does anyone have any advice? Does the cheap 14-140mm lens produce a noticeable improvement over this all in one solution? Or would that be halving your zoom capabilities and spending a little extra for no real benefit?

    • @derekvc
      @derekvc  7 лет назад +1

      your question on how you are supposed to choose between an FZ2500 and GX8 ??
      honestly, there is really totally no wrong or right answer and there will be surely trade-offs always as there is no perfect camera. but if it helps i would ask myself the following.
      1) bridge camera or interchangeable lens?
      2) is the flip out screen more important to you?
      3) is the presence of mic in and headphone jacks more important to you?
      4) 1-inch sensor or the micro 4/3rds larger
      5) is the size of the camera important?
      hope the above helps you in a more informed decision. Cheers!!!

    • @scarcesense6449
      @scarcesense6449 7 лет назад

      Thanks!
      1) Form factor isn't important to me, I'm only interested in image/video results.
      2) Both are the same.
      3) Both have a mic, which is the only I might use.
      5) Both end up about the same size/weight with a lens or two on the GX8.
      So it all comes down to 4...
      Does the bigger sensor really do that much? Or put another way, do the cheaper lenses that make these two options comparable in price detract from the benefits? I guess it would be hard to tell without a side by side comparison of the exact setup in various situations...
