    As one numismatist put it, if you know your coins you can spot fakes like you would spot a normal car with a fancy paintjob pretending to be an expensive model.

    Thanks for the tutorial, Daniel. At a glance, the rim looked funky and the coin was too thick.

    I love your videos on fakes. I used to collect classic head gold 2.50 & 5.00, and so many were not genuine. Most were of the right weight, but failed a gold test. I found a book with all the dies used to be the key. Thanks again.

    Makes me wonder why someone would go to the trouble of making a fake with such an obvious mistake with the 3 stars. Don't get it. Rim is terrible too.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  3 месяца назад

      It still fools people, most people don’t know about the stars, so you can’t look at it through the lens, that everyone knows what you know.

    • @JamesComstockCages
      @JamesComstockCages 3 месяца назад

      @@CoinHELPu Looking at the old coins surely is nostalgic. When I first looked and saw the stars on the "1916' I wondered if I was mixed up as it just seemed too obvious. I think back about all the worn quarters that went through my hands 60+ years ago and wonder if any of them was a 1916 as I didn't know how to pick them out from the 1917 at the time. Wish I had kept my Mickey Mantle baseball cards and all the rest too. Wish someone had told me that the local coin dealer in 1960, Harry Blanchard, had been a cashier in my grandfather's bank in 1920. Would have asked him many questions. So many things.

    No stars on the reverse of a 1916 SLQ!!! Thanks for sharing Daniel. 😎👍👍

    • @torpedo1306
      @torpedo1306 3 месяца назад +4

      The 1916 does indeed have stars. They are laid out around the rim, 13 stars in total, with 7 on one side and 6 on the other. The type 2 that Daniel mentions has the same amount of stars, but it has 3 under the eagle. The obverse of the type 1 also shows the exposed breast of Lady Liberty, on the type 2 she is fully covered.

      @@torpedo1306 you are correct. 👍 I do know this, but was just typing my immediate reaction… I’ll edit it to include the word reverse. Ty. 😎

    Thanks, Daniel! I don't generally collect SLQs as a rule, but I'm pretty sure I have some "no-date" ones among the quarters in my generic silver stack. Now I'm thinking I probably ought to look them over more carefully "just in case".

    3 Stars under the Eagle on a 1916? To tell the truth as I saw the thumbnail of the video I thought "that looks fake" and the 3 stars under the eagle is a type 2 back, not type 1.
