the show does such a good job of misdirecting the viewers. makes you believe he makes it back home and carries Mariko's cross with him
So who is that then?
@@T-h-a-t_G-u-yis just a dream of anjin who wants to go home but he would never be able to
@@T-h-a-t_G-u-y As the title of the episode suggests, it's a dream within a dream. This was one of his futures had he chased his ambitions. But he ended this pathway when he decided to become selfless and remain in Japan

1:50 there is so much pain in that short burst of a scream...
Shogun show you make me cry man. 😢😢
I remember when I watched the Shogun series on one of the local TV stations. The actors were Richard Chamberlain and Yuko Shimada. I was around 9 or 10 at the time. There was no internet, no computer, no printer. Then, when I was around 20, I did a research bout' Shogun on Google. It was mentioned that Mariko was dead. I had never read the novel. Even in the old version, I noticed there was something between John and Mariko. Her sacrifice and death are completely marvelous but horrible.
When he gave her cross a final resting place, he was resolving where his own final resting place would be as well.
Flowers are beautiful because they fall
The Sakura falled this week. Countless petals scattered like a snow blizzard.
We feel sad, but this is the moment when the cherry blossoms are the most beautiful.
The ladies crying for Mariko broke my heart 😣😣
Kind of weird that her clothes are so intact... If her front is relatively undamaged that makes sense, but her spine and back should have been completely eviserated from that explosion.
So what you wanted him to pick up her entrails perhaps?
@@LRZephyrYeah, lol. Imagine him holding a piece of meat like the bodies in the beginning of episode 5. Sometimes, being not so realistic is the right way to go.
In slow motion during the explosion, you can see Mariko being bisected... but let just say that it would have been more shocking to see her body like that for some people in episode 10.
Director and show runners taking some creative liberty here. Perhaps they decided on sacrificing some of the authenctiy aspect just so they could showcase the dramatic part of it- John being able to hold Mariko one last time….
Also not very professional of the attackers not bothering to check if she's alive...they blew that flimsy door in for what?
Yeah... is it though? or is it flash forwarding? hehe Good story telling right there
Wow .
Mariko is free now

how does he have her cross? I thought he dropped it into the sea?
it was just a dream used to mislead the viewers
Dropping the cross symbolizes him letting go of that dream to go back to London and grow old
@@hipdavinci5122 that makes sense now
He dead?
So, where are all the Shinobis??
Do they just leave now or what?
Yeah, they just dipped. Not sure how they missed that plothole.
@@ladobarnovi221it isn't a plot hole. Their mission was to kidnap Mariko, when they saw she was dead they dipped because they failed their mission
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 I mean, yes, we can assume that. But it doesn't make much sense, since they didn't really go in to check them. Plus they were just killing each other couple minutes back, so I don't really understand what's the point of leaving them alive, John at least.
@@ladobarnovi221they likely went straight to killing themselves. Killing John would be outside of the parameters of the mission. They had nothing to gain from it. They are hired asssasins.
@ladobarnovi221 Their mission was to capture Mariko. We're seeing it from John's pov where he blacked out for a few seconds after the blast. During that blackout, we can safely assume that the Shinobis entered the room, saw her dead and left quickly.
There was no reason for them to kill the rest with Mariko dead and so they dipped
So John abandons his family to live as a nobody halfway across the world……pathetic
No. He was trapped in Japan forever. He was a sailor by profession. His English family knew this. Nothing pathetic here.
He was held captive
@@honinakecheta601 I wouldn't taken one of the pistols and blasted Torunaga, even if it meant his retainers would kill me afterwards.
Better to die standing than live kneeling.
