HOW I migrated to Trinidad & Tobago : Processes and Documents Needed | CSME Certificate

  • Hey Guys!
    I'm often asked about the processes I underwent during my move to Trinidad from Saint Lucia.
    For me, the process was super simple, as both Saint Lucia and Trinidad are CARICOM member states. CARICOM states have an agreement which allows for free movement of people for labour ( amongst other things.)
    As such, I did not need a Work Permit, as the CSME certificate replaces the work permit for CARICOM member states.

    I’m very happy you found opportunities in my home country of TT, I currently live in the USA. I generally visit once a year, but due to the pandemic that has become impossible.
    You touched on ageism, and mention that your home country (StLucia seems to prefer older people), by my observation TT practices ageism, although reverse from your experience. They seem to prefer younger people and shut out older people.
    I believe this has to do with the practices of forced retirement at specific ages, pension allocations, and economic advantages of employing the young.
    Our country needs to be aware of this resource of immigrants from our region, and if necessary beyond! Trinidad and Tobago is very fortunate to have the resource of young eager people like yourself interested in relocating there with your education and skills.
    Many of us are cheering you on!
    Thank you!

      Hi Keith. Thank you for your insightful comments ( re ageism) ... Personally I think that each demographic has soo much to contribute to development. Thanks for your well wishes too! They've made my day.

    Lovely video! ❤ it’s the opposite for me…lol. Im migrating from Trinidad to St. Lucia in 1 month for a better job opportunity. I love Trinidad but I’m not being professionally challenged anymore as a government worker. Don’t get me wrong…I love my job also but I really couldn’t turn down the opportunity that I’ve been blessed with. Im so excited to experience St. Lucia! ❤

    Very informative. I would not advise anybody to go to T&T without securing a job. You may be disappointed. You also must ensure that you know where you are going to live and you must have some saved money to back you up. Don't expect people to feel sorry for you and be a good samaritan unless they are very close relatives who are able to help you. Even people who have lived abroad know this. T&T has changed from what it was decades ago.

      I agree whole heartedly with everything you said. Trinidadians are lovely people, especially if you are a social butterfly.. they love to lime ... but persons from smaller Caribbean islands may experience culture-shock, because many parts no longer have that island-y, neigbourly vibe, where everyone looks out for the other.... and that's unfortunate, because that is part of our identity as Caribbean nations.

    Process: you have to make 6 copies of the document along with copies of a passport size photo.
    You have to fill out a police character from your bith country and that of the host country.
    You have to get your documents stamped by JP.
    You have to go to ministry of national security and do an interview where they will ask you questions about why you want to be in Trinidad.
    You have to give evidence of where you will be staying and with who.

    Also If I am correct For the purpose of the Skills Certificate application process, Trinidad and Tobago recognizes only a man legally married to a woman or a woman legally married to a man as his/her spouse.

    • @ChadelMathurin
      @ChadelMathurin  2 года назад

      I have not had reason to look into the specificities of the certificate regarding marriage , but I do know that Trinidad and Tobago legally recognises Common-Law Unions ( if you meet the base requirements). I don't know whether they are recognised in relation to the CSME cert though. They have a website so you can probably reach out.

    What if you are a US citizen? Like me I’m moving to Guyana and have applied for Guyanese citizenship because of my parents are from there. So when I become a citizen of Guyana, can I apply for the caricom certifications?

    • @ChadelMathurin
      @ChadelMathurin  3 года назад

      Good question. I am not a lawyer/ CSME expert 😬 ; but there should not be any barriers to applying if you have acquired Guyanese citizenship. Please consult with the Guyanese CSME office. They will be able to give you better guidance.

    • @ChadelMathurin
      @ChadelMathurin  3 года назад +1

      Hi. Yes I did apply for the T&T certificate while already in TT. I was already in possession of the one from St.Lucia; but it shouldn't matter whether you have one from your home country or not.

  • @milesguide
    @milesguide 4 года назад

    Thank you so much for this super helpful video, Chadel!! I was wondering what the process of obtaining the TT/host country certificate was like once you arrived?

    • @ChadelMathurin
      @ChadelMathurin  4 года назад +2

      The pleasure is mine Sarah!
      I spoke a little to that in the video but I guess I didn’t go into much detail.
      It was super simple. I went into the ministry of foreign affairs , got the form and brought in my necessary docs; then they called to let me know when it was ready.
      The only thing that gave me some issues was getting my certificate of character from St.lucia while in Trinidad(because I didn’t come to Trinidad with one). It was super difficult to get my fingerprints from the TT police station to send to Saint Lucia (because finger prints are a requirement if you’re applying for a certificate of character from outside of a country).

      I got it after because I applied for it on the grounds of being a university graduate. (I listed the categories of people who qualify for the cert.)
      Ermm thinking about your question what do you mean? Do you mean if I had received my diploma in hand yet?
      No I hadn’t received my physical diploma for the certificate from my home country .. but I had to present proof of completion.
      I hope either one of those answers work for your question!
