The voicing of this amp is right in the warmest, beefy brown gravy sound without being at all shrill and is unobtrusive. Amazing job REVV and excellent review Michael as always!
I find myself listening more to your opening tunes than the rest of the video. 😢sorry, but your songs are very inspiring. Do some more song breakdowns and recording episodes. Please🙏🤘🤘🔥🔥
@@BigHairyGuitars You bet Michael....I'm also a fan of all the Kemper packs I've purchased from you. On another note, I think you may have been off on your SD-9 assesment, lol. The TWA SH9 (Scott Henderson pedal version of the circuit if frickin' killer....but both he and Landau used the Maxon with guitar volume and tone rolled back. :-) Rock on!
@@billmiller3658Oh thanks! I'm glad you like them! I was TOTALLY off on the SD9. In fact, after I made that video, I had to go purchase another one 🤦🏻♂. It's on my board right now. I was considering the Analogman Mod. I got the Butter Machine, but prefer the stock SD9. So, maybe the SH9???
@@BigHairyGuitars SH9...to my ears...is far superior.....and to be honest...I was worried I wouldn't like it as much as the SD-9...but man...if you ever get a chance to try one out....I'll e-transfer you a couple of bucks for you to get a few beers...or whatever.....and have a quality try out session with it, lol. I'd love to also know if you were to disagree (or if you dig it)....with all the endless hype and all....and the subjective nature of art....it all makes for fun times. Thanks Michael.
Great playing and chord choices. Reminded me alot of Landau in tone and phrasing. Your solo bends and little squeaks very reminiscent of the solo from I'm buzzed.
It sounds great. I had the V1 once upon a time. I’m surprised they did away with the different voicings on Channel 2 but made the Reverb more tweakable.
Sounds pretty warm and fat as is, but don't you need the active Master Volume up high to drive the amp section? I assume it's just the preamp dynamics we are hearing. The tone stack knobs (mainly the Middle knob) also have to be up high to get the get all the available gain by driving the PI tube. Maybe the Master Volume knobs are PPI?
Mate, I come to a lot of your videos because I want to hear your music and to some degree the gear. Just letting you know. Give us an album. All I am asking.
Thanks! I actually was using my favorite IR for this. It's much easier to do demos that way, and is a more consistent foundation for comparing the amps. bighairyprofiles.com/products/big-hairy-guitars-impulse-response
No disrespect intended, what Michael describes as "articulation" of the amp and "articulations" of the player are both dynamics. Articulation in an amp describes clarity, note separation, and transient response-like articulate speech; a player's articulations are playing techniques-like articulated movement.
@@BigHairyGuitarsWes is a riff machine and absolutely underrated guitarist/songwriter. Although I'm stoked to see him getting some more recognition lately. "Nu-Metal" was so "uncool" for so long, but when us 90's babies realized that hey our generation's music was actually f'in sick now it's cool again and "those people" were actually always into the good stuff lol. I'm sure you experienced that with the hair metal scene that you obviously were very influenced by. Thankfully everyone agrees and couldn't hide that the grunge/alternative "movement" was the best thing to happen to music IMHO. Jerry Cantrell, Adam Jones, Billy Howerdel, Kim Thayil that other bald dude who was that band about pumpkins lol and SO MANY others. But Jerry and Billy H. still blow me away every time and make me want to play all day, every day still. I will say that those of us who haven't YET made music our sole career path that the playing guitar thing all day is hazardous to our wallet, girlfriends and that other thing we HAVE to do to make money lol.
Thanks! Here you go. Most of it is my score music, but there is a guitar song as well. open.spotify.com/artist/56TJzee4HxmESxxXXvcJue?si=lg8ZYiSITMmAmSO4OxpHsA
Great playing, and it sounds good but I wouldn't compare it to a dumble. All the Revv stuff to me has like a buzzy fizzyness that you can't take out of the gain structure. I prefer a smooth gain structure.
I don't know man. DyNAmis sounds like a body part, like, "I injured my dyNAmis". My pronunciation is based around Dynamo, but mis. Like a lady dynamo. Who could hate on that!?!
That's an incredibly tasteful piece of music.
THANK you SO much!
@@BigHairyGuitarsI 100% agree with. It’s refreshing
Yeah I literally saved this video because of the song in the intro. It's beautiful.
Man, your sense of melody and phrasing is just so incredible. I would totally buy an instrumental guitar record from you if you did one.
Nicely done Michael!! Great sounds!
Holy smokes. The amp is great, but the opening song, playing, etc is outstanding
Thanks! I found the amp really inspiring.
I second that
As always, the intro is great. I'm usually inspired to play after I watch these vids. Thanks for that.
Please do a breakdown of the intro piece - note for note - its guitar album quality and deserves a bigger audience ! Stellar stuff Sir !

Landau vibes in that first piece… wow, amazing amp, even better playing. Awesome always, friend 🤘🎸🫡
I thought Lukather, but I definitely notice Landau, now that you mention it. Nonetheless, no one makes jams like Michael.
Agree with the Landau vibes!
This may be my favourite intro song you have done.
BOLD STATEMENT, MICHAEL! and playing is stellar as usual. Cheers to you and the fellas at Revv
That intro tune was really killer
Man another amazing intro. Sounds fantastic 👌
Thank you Collin!
Amp sounds great! Finally a proper review of this amp,
Great playing, great sounds! Love the T-shirt!
KILLER INTRO. You are a phenomenal player/writer
sounds great man. Excellent composition and playing as always.
THANKS! I really appreciate that!
Thank you for making such great videos!
Wow! Thank you for your generosity!!!
man that was the best nice job. love your stuff
Damn…great playing, tone and production. Sounds like that LA-Landau-Lukather thing!!
Good tune Michael.
Beautifully played. I love the chewy lead tone
YES! Chewy. Big and chewy with a nice little crunch on the attack.
I have that shirt too! Getting ready to head to grad school. Will wear it at my graduation. 😂
Fantastic opening song man!!! Amazing tone in this amp and awesome playing!
Thank you so much!
Love that piece of music ! You should record that one
C'mon , Michael, that run @ 2:25 was just sick. I always looks so forward to these. Monkey Faces FTW!@ :D

6:40 I freaking love that heavy tone. Its atypical but beautiful.
Great intro song (again) :)
Reminded me a bit of Collective Soul's crunch tone, as I listened back.
Yes, a fairly versatile amp. Petty, The Police, Brian Adams, ZZ Top. It’ll do them all and more.
Man, this is my next amp. Already have the D25 combo (which is kick ass) but this thing is the whole damn package.
Great playing and chord choices. Reminded me alot of Landau in tone and phrasing. Your solo bends and little squeaks very reminiscent of the solo from I'm buzzed.
I HAVE listened to Tales from the Bulge 800000 times. So that's highly plausible. :)

Same impression. Dynamis 7/40 Channel 2 is way cool
What a cool, intro song !
Great playing Michael!
Very cool track upfront!
Thanks!

Great intro song, very tasteful! I hear some Michael Landau in there
FO SHIZ!!! Thanks! Landau is life! 😆
you made that seafoam machine sing brother. those touchy feely Howie D type amps are hard to capture properly and you did it very well🙏
REVV rules!!!!
First track sounding like something from Landau.. Hurry up and get us a damn album Michael! \o/
Sounds great! What cabinet and speaker are you playing through? Is it the REVV 2X12 with 75 watt cream backs? I saw these NAMM. Thanks!

Fine piece of music!
Thanks!!!
This was fantastic!
Great opening track, as usual. What chorus were you using for the clean tone? It sounds perfect.
Next is the Revv G50
That's an A+ in guitar face around 0:45
Limp Bizkit style backing track. Tasty.
Sooooooo Landau-ish taste 👍
Landau is life! 😆
Which tubes are in the amp? No mention.
Ah sorry. 6L6
@@BigHairyGuitars Thanks Michael! Hope all's well.
The D40 ships with 6L6 tubes but you can switch them out to EL34s if you know how to bias.

no, but I HAVE listened to him constantly for 40+ years... so...
@@BigHairyGuitars It's noticeable. You are an incredible player.
That was one fucking tasty sandwich my friend! Nice tone!
I’m sitting on the fence between this and the VHT D-50….any insight is appreciated!
Sorry I haven’t played any of the VHT designs after Fryette sold it. I haven’t seen any around my area to plug into.
I forgot how cool amps were 🥵🥵 Well I’m done with my digital debauchery I think this is the one
Forget about the amp! That introo man!!!!!
I had the previous iteration of this amp and didn’t jive with it. I hear the same thing on this one. It sounds stiff or lacking compression.
Got one in all red, awesome amp! 9:05
NIIIIIIIICE! I'm sure that looks awesome!
heyyy ive got that same shirt
The beginning of that intro song had "My Way" vibes
hmm. I don't hear it, but regardless. Wes is VERY underrated in my book. Fred is not. But Wes IS! 🤣

Your compositions have drama. Waves are cool, but it's the undertow before the wave that adds drama and anticipation before you feel it hit you.

I don’t know, Revv amps are affordable and sound good. Dumbles are waaaaaaaay overpriced and nothing special.
I love everything Revv is doing.
Definitely an amp
It is 100% that.
Not even close to the Bogner's that I've seen you testing lately.
Very different animal.
Wouldn't it be more logical and sound better to pronounce it the same way as dynamic but with an S as the end instead of a C?
