The people aren't "evil" of "heartless" - they simply do not want to get robbed and murdered.
Indeed!
That's exactly the problem! How do you know that the one seeking help from you is a robber or murderer? How about preferring to consider the possibility that the person truly needs help rather than imagining that he is out to kill or murder you. Besides, aren't there murders and robberies committed anyhow every day by people who are not asking for accommodation at the homes of people who don't know them? Imagined consequences or not, it is always better to suffer for doing good than to suffer for doing evil. Moreover, there are a million other ways to help a complete stranger in need if you feel uncomfortable taking him in, but turning him away unassisted isn't one of them.

I've actually been housing at risk homeless people for decades. About half end of robbing me by taking things around the house, stealing my credit, etc. But none ever hurt me. The ones who did not steal ended being amazing lifelong friends after they get their life back on track.
My grandmother used to take random people in if she came across them. Lived all alone. Used to freak us out, but not one ever did anything wrong to her. I'd say she was very lucky, but she did not entertain for even one second the thought that any would do wrong, she 100% believed they wouldn't and they didn't.
Oh, random and unrelated, but was a big WTF for me, her very close elderly friend got her house broken into and they stole some jewellery and stuff. True
Yeah because those countries are incredibly poor and their is no support from the government. In western countries you get something called social welfare payments, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, all of which provide free food or enough money to live a very good life. Nobody in western countries has to actually be homeless or be hungry. 99.9% of homeless people you see in western countries, chose to be homeless, even though they could sleep in a bed in a warm room, they prefer to be on the street. In my country, Germany, every citizen that doesn’t have a job, gets 600$ in cash + gets paid his rent, insurances, and thousand other things indefinitely - EVEN THE „Homeless“ get the same thing. People who are homeless in western countries are usually homeless because they have problems with their behavior, they get kicked out of their apartments, because they make problems or they don’t pay Rent, because they use their money for drugs. They are not homeless because they don’t have enough money.
So if you see a guy in front of your door like that, in a western country, you know he is alright, he has food, he has a place to sleep. So why should you provide him something of which you know, he already has plenty of?

Let's be honest no one would let a homeless man in their house.
We do that in Muslim countries, especially in the North Caucasus and Turkey. Recently in cities this is forgotten but if you go to any village or rural area and ask this, they will either let you in or give you food, clothing and somewhere to stay.

My dad let a homeless guy live with him for a while gave him a job and my dad was poor aswell he let him stay rent free but one day the homeless guy just goes up to my dad and tells him this isn’t the life he wants. This is why rich people are rich.
Anyone of them could have offered him a drink, a sandwich, a lift to a shelter, 20 bucks, booked an uber or at the very least showed some empathy and just engaged him about his circumstances like a caring or concerned fellow human.. only one did. He was probably an atheist.
"I saw yo welcome mat so I figured I was welcomed"
*girl looks at mat*
Mat:u welcome
Not funny
It’s easy for people in the comments to say “oh I would let him in, they are rich why would they do that” i took a second to put myself in the position of the wealthy people, and tbh I don’t think I would necessarily reject him completely and move on with my day, but I would want to have an opportunity to have a genuine conversation with him/her. If he truly needed a bed and food I would do that, maybe not in my house but I would definitely rent him a Airbnb, or hotel for a couple nights because I had a conversation with that person, and understand where he came from. So my point is that if someone would walk threw my door and ask for food and a place to stay it all depends on what the man/women has gone threw and why is in this very position.
Rich people aren’t mean and they aren’t rich this houses are wealthy houses not rich
Tarantula On Your Screen yeah you’re right, a person with money is not obligated to give a another person money, but like I said, if you take time to understand a person and what there story comes from, then yeah maybe I will give this person something, and that’s totally up to you or the person who is put in that position and if it’s a cracked up old man asking for money, of course not.
Nobody is saying that

well at least they’re trying to be nice and weren’t yelling at him to leave
Dude please just shut up
rich people will never understand
People with moderate to good incomes are much more civil, courteous, and polite than homeless people and people at the lower echelons of society. People at the bottom just eat each other - all the while being ostracized, shamed, and stepped on by most everyone else. Homeless shelters s##k a##. ANY other potential option is BETTER. There's really very little good to say about homeless shelters. It's akin to trying to say good things about housing projects. They're just nests of filth, depravity, and slothfulness. Always a few idiots who like to go around everywhere (in the shelters) looking to beat the s##t out of people too (usually big dudes too and often strung out on drugs) and steal anything they can or just harass or try to intimidate other "guests". And most staff are like SS of the German Gestapo (not "all" staff but many of them). Those places - homeless shelters - absolutely S##K.

It's absolutely okay to say no. But people could refuse politely atleast.
