Instead, they chose to hold a competition to send one civilian school teacher, who did actually end up on the shuttle on that day. As a result, most US schools were showing the shuttle launch to their students when it exploded.

I love the look of relief on Angela's face. I don't know why but she is always so adorable to me in this TNTL. I watched it quite a bit when I was making my (thus far) only Angela appreciation video. Her big gorgeous eyes and expressive face combined with her slinged arm just make me want to cuddle her and defend her from any more mean ice rinks attacking her. 😏

But. The original idea was to send Big Bird up there instead, and HE would be in a broadcast. So yeah NASA almost killed Big Bird.
