- Lex Luger on The Lex Express
2 time World Champion "The Total Package" Lex Luger talks about his famous "Lex Express" WWE publicity tour that was designed to help get Luger over as a babyface. Lex also comments on some remarks then WWE executive Bruce Prichard made about the time on the bus which Prichard claimed Lex preferred to fly to the cities and then stay at the local Marriott's rather than actually live in the bus as most people thought he did. Hannibal for aew
Thanks a lot but Tweet that to them if you want to see it. I have 0 say in who they hire.
He'd be the biggest guy there in size besides Nyla Rose n Luchasaurus.
@@gman2015z If we all tweet AEW to sign Hannibal - they will notice. Or if anyone from the WWE are reading these comments - I will watch WWE again if Hannibal was on the loose there. #TheHannibalTV
@@TheHannibalTV I hope they hire you. I love this channel too.
Luger body slamming Yokozuna on the USS Intrepid on the 4th of July was a big deal for the WWF at the time and elevated Lex fandom to a new level.
.......Then Vince changed his mind and didn't give him the belt!
@@gazof-the-north1980 Because Bret hart cried backstage. He made a big fuss to leave the WWF if he didn't get the belt.
@@bourbon646 proof?
@@bourbon646 never heard that story but does feel like a Bret Hart kind of thing, he’s always had a bit of an entitlement attitude even though I still respect his work.
Got to give him credit he doesn't duck the questions.
Gotta respect him he answers all questions fully seems humble Respect........
i was thinking the same. Seems like a very humble guy.
I have a lot of time for Lex. Owns everything he's done. Good and bad.
I'LL BE YOUR HERO
I don’t blame him for wanting to stay in a decent hotel. If you’re on the road that much with days that long, I’d rather stay in a comfortable hotel.
They wanted him to sleep on the bus. Ridiculous.
Not to mention a monster like that needs a decent gym and food to stay in shape, its not like he was seeking a hotel for a stocked mini fridge of booze and room service. it honestly amazes me how some wrestlers looked as good as they did spending all that time on the road in tiny box cars eating at Dennys and Waffle House.
Or he could’ve sacrificed for the six weeks, openly embraced it, and with that attitude been crowned the top guy. It’s not absurd to recognize that the company was disillusioned that they’re putting the house behind a guy and he’s not embracing it or happy knowing what’s to follow a time period that’s less than ideal. Ask the rest of the roster if they’d have spent six weeks doing this if it meant they’d be champion at the end and I bet they’d have openly embraced it to get that level. Obviously you’d prefer a hotel but it’s a small sacrifice to become the champion in the end.
I passed the lex express in niles ohio. That was a cool thing too see. I was always a lex luger fan and still am
Instead of creating another Hulk Hogan, they should’ve focused on creating the first Lex Luger. If they wanted to turn him face fine but giving him the American gimmick was a little too much especially since he didn’t get anything out of it other then being a Co Royal Rumble winner in 1994.
he headlined Summerslam 93 and won.
@@weworldwide1348 yeah he won alright... by DQ....vince buried him.
@@michaelmacdonald880 he co-won the 94 Rumble. That doesn't sound like he was buried.
@@weworldwide1348 Oh yeah tell me how that worked out again? Getting a mid card match at mania in New York so a Canadian could main event a rematch with yokozuna.
@@michaelmacdonald880 Well, the fans wanted Bret and Vince gave them what they wanted. They were clearly popping louder for Bret than for Luger after the Rumble.
Thousands of miles travelling , lots of money invested in him and somehow doesn’t win the tittle from yoko at ss 93. Has to be up there with one of the most bizarre creative decisions ever made in wrestling.
Yes
Exactly. Ridiculous.
And to this day can anyone remember Bret’s angle with Yokozuna? No. But everyone remembers the Lex Express and the body slam.
Funny how people sitting in an office or go home to their family every night can judge what a person otr wants and think it’s too much .
Scott C, yeah, driving over the road is like being in a rolling jail.
The office people have this idea that it would be cool for whoever to be on a bus 24/7.
Whenever it's a bus tour, every exec that doesn't live on the bus thinks it's so cool to live on the bus.
I was on a tour like that. We worked about 20 hours a day including setting up and breaking down a show. They packed events tight - no time for stopping for anything - showers, doing laundry, nothing. Yet they wanted us looking spiffy at every stop even after we spent hours setting up.
We stopped in NY for an outdoor event. It was 20 below. There were heaters in the tents where we set up, but the heaters froze. As we were setting up in this cold, the main sponsor rep called to tell us not to wear coats because they wanted anyone wandering by to see our company shirts as we set up. Certainly don't wear coats or hats or gloves (even if the company shirts were over the coats) when the show started - she claimed that would make us look "cold and miserable."
Me: "It's 20 below zero. We'll be cold and miserable and dead if we don't wear coats."
Her: "You have heaters."
Me: "The heaters froze."
Her: "It's only for a few hours. You'll be moving around a lot."
I hung up. Between the set up and show and tear down it was 20+ hours in that cold. She wanted us in short sleeve shirts, no coat, no hat, nothing.
I worked an office job for years and I groaned when I was made to drive 20 minutes downtown during rush hour traffic after work to deliver some boxes of stuff which was not in my job description. But I recognize it still beats working out in the heat for 8 hours or half a day riding in a moving vehicle.
when i just saw this he reminds me that im getting old too! lol
Me, too :)
Sucks getting old.
theres some advantages just try to enjoy and go with the flow-were alot wiser now!!!
Makes me feel younger!
if I was lex lugar I would have demanded ritz carlton he was over back then not to mention he looked liked a million bucks
Ken Bush,
Lex was VERY over, he was supposed to be the new Hogan- but Bret Hart was slightly more over- especially internationally. Between Hart’s commitment and the Steroid scandal, Lex was kind of doomed in the WWF. But he was the big reveal on the first episode of Nitro, so Lex’s star power at the time can’t be underestimated.
@@leeyoder935 Had more women then you ever will
Should have been given the belt guy was so over after slamming Yokozuna.
Loved Lex back in the day he was so genuine doing the LexExpress great moments thanks Lex take care
I once spent 12 hours on a bus and that was more than enough for me
Ha
when I was a little kid,my dad would always take me to the old columbus ga auditorium and I saw lex luger and sting go right pass me and out into the locker room or arena right in front of me
I really hope Hannibal asked about the WWA and TNA appearances, I would love to know Lexs thoughts on those ventures!
A lot of people don't know this but Lex is one of the biggest legends stars in this GOD!!!!
I dont know!!!
For those who don't know this classic Lex moment...ruclips.net/video/BHTj7qfnTak/видео.html
Seth Bullock Scott Steiner used to punk your hero lex in the locker room
@@paystyles5429 from what I heard Scott Steiner was a jerk with a lot of Wrestler . In the back . Just like The Dynamite Kid . I mean I liked both the British Bulldogs and the Steiner Brothers . But that's what I heard . Funny though how Scott never punked The Road Warriors Hawk or Animal . Gee I wonder why .
I just don't really like him cause I feel like he caused miss Elizabeth's death.
"There's one thing I love more than myself, and that's my country!" -Lex, right before body slamming yokozuna on the deck of the USS intrepid on July 5th, 1993. 🇺🇲
People at the office always want to make sure you're on the bus as much as possible - all travel on the bus, sleeping on the bus, eating on the bus. They think the bus is so cool.
I lived on a bus two summers in a row, 6-8 months each. No hotels, no flights, just bus bus bus.
You know what you need?
Rob Van Dam on his Van!
Lol that perfectly fits lol
Cant really blame a guy for not wanting to spend a whole summer on a buss.
ALL THIS TO NOT GET THE TITLE. Whatta waste. Lex should have been the WWF champ for YEARS.
Bret Hart cried backstage and changed the finish.
I loved the Lex Express. I can see why it would be hard for Lex though.
Great interview. I hope that Lex is doing well.
Can't wait till you ask him about Owen and Davey. He came across as one of the most heartfelt and sincere subjects on Owen's dvd.

McMahon messed up a Great all summer promo...That was Lugers tittle promo destination.. That was yours
I was never a huge Lex fan, I remember him slamming Yoko and being thrilled. It was just hard for me to have them basically cram his new gimmick down my throat. He played the Narcissist gimmick so well that his change was just too much.
Sorry Hannibal Luger was a 3x World Heavyweight Champion .
???
Hannibal is right. Luger had runs as WCW World Champion in 1991 & 1997
Are you including the phantom title he didn't win at Summerslam 93?
@@420benton2 No you dumbass he didn't win shit in wwf
@@TheHannibalTV once from Flair, second the make shift wcw world title when Harley Race was his manager and Third he beat Hulk Hogan on t.v. the same week he lost the World Title to Hogan on PPV Luger only had it for 5 days
Lex back in the day is a prime example of as long as you had a great look, you were gonna get pushed to the moon. No matter how limited you were in the ring or terrible on the mic. Ahhhh the good ole days
They wanted Lex to sleep on the bus - I bet Bruce never stayed on a bus for one night much less for months.
I was on a bus tour. We were going from about 4AM every morning to Midnight or later - it was 7 days a week. When we complained about not getting sleep, the sponsor company rep said, "I want to make sure we get a full week of work from you."
They got a full week of work in two days.
They had events packed in and so much travel that we couldn't stop to do laundry, take a shower, nothing. Yet they wanted everyone clean and pressed, looking spiffy at every stop.
Sadly, all that promotion and being on the bus all day paid out for nothing. Was hoping he get the belt after all that
Who in the hell is Bruce pritchard.?

The Lex Express was so cringe, especially that song, "I'll be your Hogan"
Sounds like Bruce was telling the truth.
Which is rare lol
Never got it. He was campaigning for a match he already got.
It was entertainment. Shhhh just enjoy
they couldnt pay me enough to have that kind of family life....wrestling is garbage
Should've asked Lex all the ratchet ass shit he did on the bus,BANGBUS! Lol
Sad to see this.
Why are you sad?
Lex Express was an awful idea - it fizzled. Maybe the execution was good, but the plan was bad.
No it didn't! It was hot. It's so easy to look back now and say that you don't like it, but you know at the time that you were loving as much as all of us. Everybody needs to stop being a wrestling snob decades later. You're like those people that say they never liked Hogan, but we all know that is bull because everyone loved him
At that point in time, the Lex Express was 🔥🔥 buddy.
Lex did not age well
He’s been threw a lot
