I was reading the ssd storage is good if you are constantly accessing them. Specific hdds are better for long term storage where you only check them every once in a while which I imagine is how often old photos are checked.

That is true. But prices for ssds vs hdds got so close as of recently that I would just pick an ssd anyway in the

@@simonbernlieger makes sense, when I try to access my memories on my 8tb hdd it can be painfully slow. Maybe the way to go is a mix, hdd for long term backups and sdd for accessible backups.

@@justjonnytv What kind of hdd are you using? 5400 rpm or 7200rpm?
What I am currently doing (might be overkill for most people storing their private images) is in the editing phase I store everything on external SSDs (most around 1TB)...then once a project is finished the raw files go to two 8TB Lacie HDDs (identical twins - also relatively fast at 7200rpm) and once those are full I store everything on another set of new HDDs for “eternity” (2 seperate locations)
Regarding the whole idea of HDDs are better for long term storage - There is surely an element of truth to it but besides price it seems that for the SSD to be technically inferior / more prone to failure you would need to not access it for many YEARS..
