Kubo did indeed plan the story far ahead. Best example would be Ichigos father and the reveal of him being a captain and his backstory. Another example would be White.
Sure Shunsui is a very laid back person but keep in mind he did draw his swords against a human. The very same human he could have killed with his bare hands or even Kido. So he was serious when he said Chad could hurt him otherwise he wouldnt draw his swords. So yes he does pointless stuff but he never does stuff not neccessary. Hell he didnt even want to fight Starrk because he knew Starrk does not really wanna fight aswell.
Kinda ironoc now that i thing about it. The guy who does most of the pointless stuff is the one only doing whats really needed....damn what a paradox.
So incredibly unlucky to be faced off with one of the strongest Captains….
And yet, so fortunate that he got the Captain who’s the most passive, merciful and easy going in regards to his responsibilities….

Rewatching this arc and realised Shunsui really was the perfect choice for captain commander of the Gotei 13. The way he handled everything he came across during this arc was perfect, and had all the characteristics of a great leader. He might not be as powerful as Yamaji was, but he's a much better leader for sure.

Ukitake would also have been a decent pick if he wasn't so damn sickly. The guy calls other captains by their first names and actually takes time to get to know his subordinates. He's also very honorable. In fact, those 2 and maybe current unohana wouldve been great picks.

Back in the day where I was thinking maybe Chad has a chance at beating him since ichigo and uryu beated kenpachi/mayuri at this point until i realize later on as the series went on that not only is Koryaku a future head captain far stronger then chad but chad just simply lost every single fight hes ever been in except at least 1.. I miss those times where I didn't know who shunsui was and thought Chad was strong

@@tabibhassan3376 Aizen literally defeated Shunsui in base along with Soifon, Toshiro, Rose, Love, Lisa and Komamura at the same time. Aizen is way stronger than Shunsui. Yamamoto and Aizen are the strongest and distant third place is Unohana then Shunsui and Gin are fourth and fifth strongest.
Shunsui could have murked the entire party if he felt like it.
Chad is actually badass af. Taking on one of the most powerful captains.
A samurai in truest form, he was not in danger from chad and tried to resolve the matter with a diplomacy check. When accosted by the human instead of one shoting him he allowed Chad to see how outmatched he was and allowed him again to withdraw. Chad finally soent was defeated by one non fatal blow because of his genteel nature and willingness to get info without a ton of torture.
I love how he is so casual and has no hard feelings towards anyone, even in battle. He has no ego, as if he realises that nothing is significant and this world is a stage and we are all actors here.
Remember when fights like this had us thinking Chad had actual potential? Good times, good times.
In Chad's defense, he's probably the single strongest human in the series. He bested a Privaron Espada before he even trained with Xcution. None of the Xcution members were capable of that feat before stealing Ichigo's powers.

Shunsui cannot beat all of the Espada at once. Only Aizen and Yama could do that. Shunsui would need Bankai just to beat Stark in a one on one fight. He needed 3 other Captains to defeat Stark with his Shikai. Shunsui could win against any individual Espada member with his Bankai though.

Shunsui was giving Chad 0.1% of his power here.
The closest character I can think of, in terms of personality and status, is Admiral Aokiji in One piece. Both are very merciful and kind to their enemies. Imagine if Chad faced Kenpanchi (more like Akainu) or Gin (more like Kizaru). The only difference is that Aokiji is not the strongest among admirals while Shunsui is actually strongest captain after Yamamoto.
Chad was extremely lucky Kyoraku is a chill guy if it was Yamamoto he'd be vaporized in an instant.

I think Shunsui and Chad are very alike. Both dont really like fighting but do it if they have to you can even see that in the expressions. There is no real anger in Chad for Shunsui and vise versa.
They are, but Shunsui is still more than that: he never hesitates to resort to dirty tricks when the situations demand it or when he feels like it...Chad probably can't be as tricky as him at that regard.
I mean you battle against future captain commander.The only weakness Shunsui have is he have normal body comapare to Unohana or yamamoto or zaraki where all of them have very tough body.

On the side note, ukitake, unohana, and kenpachi probably wouldn't of killed him either. Kenpachi doesn't like killing weak opponents or defeated ones and unohanas orders are only to heal.
Chad legit had the luck of fighting the 4th strongest captain in the entire gotei 13 at the time (only behind yama, aizen, and unohana) but also lucky that it was one of the only captains that wouldnt have straight up executed him bc i like to think ukitake and komomura may have shown some mercy MAYBE unohana as well

In this arc, I'd say only Kyoraku, Unohana, Ukitake and maybe Komamura (giving him the benefit of the doubt here) would've let him be. The first three I am 100% sure of, idk about Komamura though.

Aizen at the time of chad and shunsuis fight WAS still a captain and was already renowned as one of the strongest even before his reveal as a traitor. Even before 1000 years war unohana was regarded as immensely powerful to the point she could scare the shit out of everyone around her and even shunsui revered her as his superior so please.....reread the manga and rewatch the anime of youre still behind

I think the best thing we can take away from this situation is that Chad honestly came across the best person he possibly could have.
They've dropped secondary characters too early. Ishida at least got his place in Wanderreich. It's not funny. Chad remains at privaron espada level.
Well, Chad is just a normal human, a Fullbringer with some Hollow powers, while Ishida is a Quincy that claimed descent from Yhwach, the Father of all Quincy, despite Ishida is being half Quincy only. It is easy to see why there are huge differences between him and Chad.

Remember when bankai Ichigo help his blade at byakuya throat if he had wanted to kill byakuya he could've done so even tho byakuya at that time was stronger and could've prevented that if he released his bankai in response to ichigo
Even against the espada 7 he decided not to release his bankai immediately and got injured as result
Same with tsukishima byakuya underestimated him and got cut allowing tsukishima to use book of the end and gain knowledge of byakuyas every technique
Against some like kyoraku tsukishima would probably get wooped like all other fullbringers
