    My family is Buchanan. Our 1,001 anniversary is coming up or we are about to have our 1,000th clanniversary, depends on which date you think - I'm just celebrating twice. I would love to have the CHUNK of money it would take to restore the castle and estate. If I know Scotland, there are no roofs to tax and that is why more care probably hasn't been taken.

      The castle was built by the 4th Duke of Montrose (Clan Graham) it sits on the site of the ancient Buchanan seat. In building terms for Scotland, this is actually a Victorian Era castle (so not that old), built in Scots Baronial Style. And you are correct, the roof was removed in the 1950's so that huge taxes did not have to paid.
