Although I agree, I don't think everyone needs this, a lot of people do good without this. But for people who are struggling, who are still a lot, finding this material would probably be of help. Unfortunately this lectures and clips don't appear on the top of the searches.
I used to be resentful towards my mother for not crowding me everytime I hurt myself either physically or mentally.. she isn't a perfect mother, but I'm thankful now for all of the things like that that she did for me instead of just making me into a victim. It's definitely helped me in life.
You told me to “clean my room” at my lowest moments in life.. years later I’ve read and tried my best to apply what I’ve learned from 12 Rules for Life. Working through Beyond Order now… just wanted to say: I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your encouragement. I went from a depressed teen to a competent nurse, able to help so many people because I kept fighting. Bless you.Thank you 🥹🫶🏼
Sadly, he said the students he took under him were heavily prejudiced against due to his political stance, it was one of the big reasons why he left college.
@@pedrofelipefreitas2666not all of them since he’s been teaching from 1993. There must been a decade of students who manage to take his knowledge and put to good use. With that being said , it comes down to what the students took out of his many lectures and did in their live. Nonetheless very grateful for the free footage we get to see of him!
I saw someone put day 15 staying sober with this video giving me hope. I am as well, I just want to say thank you, to everyone, opiates took my life and I’m getting it back. Wish me luck.
'we needed to know (and she) what she could do IN SPITE OF THE FACT that she had problems'. 'you dont ever wanna use your ilness as an excuse for not doing anything'. i can really see how important this is in life. also at 1:40 'when youre engages in something you believe in, time psses properly' thats how i feel while watching these videos.
Interesting, in contrast to Pinocchio, we could say that Batman is a hero who does take up his responsibility, but refuses to serve society through hierarchies, which he views as corrupt or broken. Similar to Robin Hood, I suppose.
Batman is the ultimate example of catharsis by finding empowerment through tragedy. The Joker represents the exact opposite of nihilistic corruption in the face of trauma. There's something to be learned from their dichotomy.
I hope Dr. Peterson 🌹 donates some of his time to Canadian and American Veterans that need his expertise. They are the Best Young men and Women who dedicated their lives to Services of Country. They were the Best in the Worst of Places. And Not out Protesting against America, and Hating Everything , without a job or Responsibility.
There is also something like too much responsibility. Then things can also turn shitty, because the person is overloaded and is not able to fully take charge. Like for example when you would give a mansion to a person who knows nothing about money, gardening, renovating, etc, etc.. That mansion will be a disaster after five or ten years because the necessary things will not get done. So I think we need to step out into the world and accept the responsibility we can bear. Which is suited to us. That will make a person happy, especially when it is something you heartily take up. More is not necessarily better.
2:33 I think JORDANS major flaw is his inability to put things simply. This whole segment can be explained to almost anyone easily: "People want a meaningful life, but they dont want to pay the price- which is responsibilty. Responsibility is hard, because it requires work and effort."
It is a Harvard lecture. Maybe people who pay for tuition at Harvard do not necessarily want things watered down. Also, it seems to me that your reductionist synopsis of what is said in this video might have missed some nuance that JP intended to not miss. Cheers
It's not about what the authors intended but rather WHY the story was able to get popular. Often artists don't understand the significance of their work
Is that true? Has he done this with other movies? Or are we talking about the story Pinnocho? Honest question. I'm not trolling. Disney didn't create many of these tales or stories we grew up watching on VHS.
This is so relevant to me right now Yet when I was little, like 5 y.o. 20 years ago, watching this movie was as if I watched a horror movie... I wonder, what did I see in it back then?
In essence it harkened to Judeo-Christian mythology. Geppetto represents God Pinocchio represents rebellious man-kind that defies the will and guiding direction of God. Jimmy Cricket represents the spiritual conscience that binds us to God or the spirit of Christ. The Blue fairy represents the opportunity for redemption when straying off the righteous path. The Fox and the Child hoarder represent the lying and predatory aspects of Satan respectively. Which we can become ensnared by by blatantly defying God's loving direction. There's more to it then that but in short (?) that's what these figures represent.
Honestly, I think Freud did you a grave injustice, he took the simple love that a child has for its mother and turned it into the desire to rut like an animal.
I'm so lucky as a kid that my parents never let me be the victim of my ADHD. Their number one rule was to take responsibility. It bothered me a bit as a teen but man it could have been a lot worse if they treated me like a lesser than.
I mean, not really. As a person raised by Jehovah's witnesses it's easy to see the symbolic parallels. Geppetto=God, Pinocchio=rebellious man-kind that strays from God's direction. Jiminy Cricket = sublime conscience or the conscience of Christ. Blue fairy=redemption through honest repentance, Fox & child hoarder= The lying and predatory aspects of Satan that we can become ensnared by if we stray too far from God. Pinnochio being in the sea creature was a direct parallel to Jonah in the whale where Jonah was consumed by his lower animalistic human nature and became resurrected/saved by his higher nature and conviction to bear his responsibility to God as Pinnochio to Geppetto. Similar to Christ's resurrection to the spirit by dying in the flesh. Simple stuff. 😂
This man used to live in good childhood circumstances his father was a teacher and his mother work too I grow up in a house in complete deprivation materiastically and emotionally you just don't know the ingredient
I watched the whole thing long form, did JP mention anything about what pleasure island actually is? Hell? Purgatory? Insanity? I’d really like to know, please comment if you do
It's crazy how such a small change in intensity can lead to a wide change of frequency within the electromagnetic spectrum. It's also crazy how microrefraction spreads visible light out of the visible spectrum and invisible light into the visible spectrum. UV becomes indigo or even blue, red becomes infrared. I sure love the sunshine.
original story is not from disney (as most of the classic ones with lots of deep symbolism (which also why they got criticized because there was something to think about)) it was from Carlo Collodi of Florence.
I get so engrossed in his lectures until his lecture tells me to look at or consider myself while listening, then I get distracted and lose interest in the whole topic. I'm trying to learn and then he reminds me that i exist. It's like missing the orgasm.🤣
How is the Christian belief that God forgives them of their sins any different in effect or purpose from the victim becoming free of responsibility as in the Pinocchio story? Victims who became victimizers and called it social justice get a free pass? Ask their victims. How is Heaven differentiated from Pleasure Island? God may forgive us, but we are still responsible for what we have done. What does responsibility mean in this context? Punishment? More victimization? No. Becoming responsible entails accepting what we did was wrong and making amends to our victims might be a good start.
Is leaving the USA and the west in general before the next Bolshevik revolution abandoning responsibility? What I would do to help would just label me a conspiracy theorist. And until that whole silly meme drops.. The way I see it everyone deserves it. I’ll just go somewhere defensible and not expect my children to grow up in a genocidal nightmare

I’m so happy to be able to watch and listen to Jordan Peterson.
I wish more movie reviews were like this.
What an outstanding lecture, Maps of Meaning. Man's just brilliant and I am truly lucky to have observed JBP in his element..several times over.
God Bless Everyone Love One Another

Sober for 4 years and 6 months. Thanks JBP !

I would love to see Jordan Peterson‘s take on Guillermo del Toro‘s Pinocchio, one of the best adaptations of the tail I’ve ever seen.

It's funny watching Peterson will have you convinced that classic disney movies were written by top tier psychologists / philosophers
Free Masons that believed in Gnosticism. So kind of close.
All Disney movies were borrowed. Lion King claimed to be th FIRST original Disney concept, but even tht was “borrowed” from Kimba th White Lion
It's not about what the authors intended but rather WHY the story was able to get popular.

I think Freud was a bit of a perv. Jung in his framework of behavioral archetypes is much more grounded in my perspective
Your advice really pissed off my dad but I found it very useful

The amount of reading into Disney movies meaning which is not there this guy does is almost an art at this point.

Great stuff. This is the fundamental question. Unfortunately western civilisation is currently choosing the wrong answer en masse

The one from Guillermo looks good
