The applause at the end brought tears to my eyes. I heard echoes of future standing ovations found in a mundane classroom. I heard the spirit of those students shine. Thank you Dr. Peterson.
Dr. Peterson, I just wanted to tell you that while we don't always agree on certain issues I've realized you are not the big bad wolf the media tries to portray you as. When I took the time to listen to you I realized I agree with you far more times than I disagree. I feel that you take great care with working out your full opinion on things before speaking, and are quite a caring person. You've had a profound effect on me. I grew up in a single-parent home with a father in and out of jail, prison, or rehab. You've changed how I think about things and I have realized I can do things, just one thing at a time to slowly better my life. I have even found myself at 35 crying because of some of the things you have said. I was very depressed after I was hit by an unlicensed driver while I was crossing the crosswalk. I was told before emergency back surgery I was either going to die or never walk again, and while I am alive, I was in a wheelchair and remained in one until I started believing my life was still worth living, and I wasn't going to give up and after a lot of hard work I can walk with a cane today. And I had given up before I heard you talk about making your bed. Now I'm taking the time to make my bed, and clean my room every day. I had stopped doing that and it bugged me. Just doing that has improved my life in ways only a year ago I thought were impossible because making my bed lead me to realize I can help myself if I work hard and change one thing at a time. It lead me to try physical therapy again with a different therapist who didn't tell me I won't walk again, and it paid off. Thank you so much. I will never judge someone without hearing them out again because they may say something that changes my life like you did. Edit: I'm sure you don't have time to read youtube comments, but I hope you see this long rambling comment because I don't know if there's a better way to thank you. I needed to hear a lot of the things you have written about and said, I thought my life was over when I broke my back in the car accident and as I mentioned was told I wouldn't walk again. I now know I was wrong, the doctors were wrong, and it started with making my bed and changing what I thought I could change and ended up changing what I was told I couldn't. Thank you again so very much. You gave me hope again.

I haven't seen the movie version (presumably the Disney adaptation) that Peterson is going through, but I've read the book a couple of times as an adult, and I've been pretty amazed at its depth. Good children's literature always seems to be incredibly deep. Like traditional fairy tales seem to have many layers. It's too bad that that's not the case in our contemporary work.
It’s rare to find depth like this in contemporary writing. Despite all our modern hubris and delusions of superior worldview our society is plagued by mental weakness and blind spots.
Glad to see this video is finally available. I saw it released while I was at work and taken down pretty quick via DMCA claim. Always interesting seeing your old lectures on this topic, Dr Peterson.
Personally at now 59 years old I have passed several stages or levels that helped me to became an adult, a man and it has been difficult and I suffered a lot because my dysfunctional family ( 8 th of a 9 children family) had left me with many things to repair and mostly no tool or know how to resolve them. To me, PERSEVERANCE has bee to most effective tool I used. To summarize my story I became less teenager at 33 when I had my first of my two boys. I DIG inside me to become conscious of things that I were not conscious because it’s difficult to fix something you don’t know you have or that you refuse to see. All this story use to make me think to a wonderful Prayer, sorry for the bad translation , it Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer .; My God give me the Serenity to accept the things that I cannot change. The Courage to change the things that I can and The Wisdom to know the difference. The more you pay attention to your real self, there would be more subtle things that will appear so you will have to accept the like it is or try to change it. Have a good walk on the path.😊
Pinnichio perfectly describes awakening to reality. If u dont control your mind someone else will(puppeteer) until u wake up and become real they will direct your life and you will call it fate. If you dont wake up u will become a heehawing jackass who is nothing more than a resource. Connecting with your consiousness is absolutely the goal of this operation.
I like the way you subtly pointed out the fact that most Democrats/Donkeys/Jackasses still don't have the ability to comprehend the world based on reality instead of pure fantasy.
At 21:00 he touches on something that applies quite well to current issues of the 2020s. More folks who think they know better than “the old ways” should listen to this and think about it… quietly. For a long time.
I have been going back to the pinocchio story once in a few years. It does have very strong imagery in terms of archetypes and personality development. I enjoyed this lecture, thank you.
I love when you mentioned that he mastered fire cause at the beginning of the movie Pinocchio almost burned himself with it, by learning from his experience he was able to turn something destructive of the world into something good.
I heard this and took it to memory and meditated on it for a very long time, still to this day, many years later it is in my daily talk to the subconscious. "The rock that stands in the ocean is constantly challenged by the waves for its stability. By being grounded in what's important will you rise to the challenge of the waves?" I have looked at this in many ways.
Keep up these well picked nuggets! Maybe one day we will have comprehensive playlist of all major and minor 'notes struck' that spark the much needed light within..
I have made that journey to the underworld several times, have fallen apart many times and been reborn again. recognizing that someone is pulling the strings with me and considering if that was where I wanted to go and then untangling myself from those ropes and starting over. I know where the demons haunt and why. yes, developing autonomy is kind of taboo for them. I played roles, was seduced and see how evil this world can be. much deeper than other people. the pain in it is so deep that for a long period of time and now sometimes still, I wake up and my face and neck are soaked from crying. I have experienced many levels of chaos when all I wanted was to put things in order. back home. from home to home. everything was chaos. the grasshopper was always with me. that has been my salvation, for I come from dark places of my youth. I do have an explanation for J.C. He is there for everyone who pays close attention. Trauma has made me spiritual. I have a long list of traumas. it's like i subscribed to it. Given the time we live in, I assume that I still have a few things to learn and that I will go back to the abyss to come back reborn. I have been in dialogue with my consciousness since about age seven with periods of deep fall to high spiritual consciousness and very clear experiences. I was a low-skilled good-hearted obedient slave who always knew I had to free myself from that. I also returned home many times and found nothing. That is still an issue for me. I've been so desperate at some that God even sent me an angel to fish me back in. My intuition always directs me to God. Yet sometimes a demon manages to get me. For example, if I am sick or through people around me. I see a lot. On different levels. As a low-skilled person, I learned to pay attention. Like some kind of animal instinct. That is it. The same goes for the message that is passed to me. Gepetto trapped in the great whale of limbo is true for many. They linger at a low level of consciousness. This is largely due to the way they are directed in how they should view their history. Many people are only looking for fish. They are low in skills and only want to own. They have more or less lost their animal spiritual intuition. It feels so lonely to me. I think it's lonely for everyone. My first spiritual experience was also my fifth. I was visited by a dragon. He wanted something with my heart and I assure you he didn't get it. I have burned a number of ships in the meantime.
Wow, I really felt these insights: I am currently in Moldova, unsure of why I love this country so much... but "you can't choose the things you like." I've tried for like 8 years to explain the "Moldova thing" to people... and it never sat well. I realized while listening to this that I am looking to leave my childhood behind, and start a new life, away from the safety and security of my family, my friends, and my coutry. Unfortunately I have to leave for a few weeks because I forgot to get my FBI clearances to get a long-term visa here before I left. But now I know what I need to do. :-)

Good thoughts. I love art and storytelling. I believe that fiction is the primary way humans evolve at this point, considering how we are no longer in a survival situation as a species. Now we survive bu preserving ourselves in values we teach our children, and the best way to teach is through stories. Well, maybe it is not the best way to teach, but even Jesus taught through parables, so I think there is a good argument for that. What I am trying to get at is, thank you for the insight into this old and frankly confusing story. The way you taught made it truly profound in ways I haven't considered before.
@@Torile0 Yah I know that but whether you like it or not that is how most people today know about it. Regardless, his breakdown is fascinating which is why I requested more breakdowns.
Jordan Peterson is truly an educator who wants the best for a person. He goes beyond to not only impart his knowledge but truly try to bring about "metamorphism" in a person using his/her own effort.
Id' like to re-construct the classroom lecture at home - by watching the cartoon segment, then listening to Dr Peterson's thoughts. Question: Can you provide an index to the timed pieces from the cartoon movie that Dr Peterson refers to?
Psychological analysis helps people understand why and how their minds work. You can't simply analyze a movie and say there, that's what it was, because the movie will not change its consciousness from the analysis. He could analyze the writer of the story or the director or producer, but not the movie itself. The movie is not conscious. If anything, a person's analysis of a movie is more an analysis of their mind in reaction to the movie. So here, Dr. Peterson is giving us an analysis of his psychology in response to the movie. It's like analyzing Rorschach inkblot.
I wonder what Jordan would've made of the game Bloodborne... Trying to come up with theories and explanations lead my thoughts down a path that fried my brain for a couple of weeks. Thinking about it... I think Bloodborne may have been a turning point in my brain chemistry and segway into becoming more interested in interpretations of reality...
The entire story is really only about the man, Geppeto...who creates a alter ego or outward man represented by Pinocchio. It's like Geppeto is the inward man or soul, and Pinnocchio is the outward man. This is why Geppeto keeps becoming in a captivity because as he is led by selfishness and unrighteousness, he falls into spiritual bondage. The fairies and cricket various avenues of God working within the man to bring him to completeness (perfection as Jesus teaches) where his outside and inside are in harmony. Once Pinocchio/outward man started seeking the inward man/Geppeto he started that path that Jesus teaches us that leads to completeness (as we do His teachings and believe as He believes this outward and inward become harmonized). At the end of the story Pinnocio is completed as a clean minded external spiritual being...Geppeto and Pinocchio being the two parts of a complete spiritual human. It all makes more sense when you take Jesus' yoke to learn from Him and obey Him, believing as He believes. You actually go through this entire image and process that was laid out by the writer of Pinocchio.

It was traumatizing for me personally. When the movie ended I just kept asking what happened to all the other boys on pleasure island!?😢
I agree. I never recalled the story to be one of my favorites. I just always felt afraid.
I run a youth group and the kids now a day can only get off to Chick's with Dixs it's quite sad
The applause at the end brought tears to my eyes. I heard echoes of future standing ovations found in a mundane classroom. I heard the spirit of those students shine.
Thank you Dr. Peterson.
Si bebé
no offense but this is one of the corniest, most insipid displays of limp wristed fan mail i've ever read
I run a youth group and the kids now a day can only get off to Chick's with Dixs it's quite sad
Can you imagine an analysis paper written by Dr. Peterson? Holy cow. I had no idea the depth of Pinocchio. What else have I missed?
Peter Pan...read the original. A warning for parents...disney ignored the moral lessons in the cartoon renditions
What a way to celebrate 5 million.
Classic Peterson. Changed my life. Maps of meaning was one of the first things that made sense for me.
I cannot fully express my gratitude, but you are my hero.
Thankyou
Mr Jordan my father did die and people did everything to upset me I have total respect for you and the pressure was real I hope you are doing great
If only I could be one of your students in the classroom! I have always loved sociology and psychology, the dissection of lies society is composed of, and the food we eat from infant-hood.
You are. Welcome to the class.
These archetypal analyses are my favorite JP content.
I can tell you this....
This man is a gift to us all from our FATHER.
I would like to have a teacher like Jordan Peterson
I am blessed in that I was able to be with my father today, an Eagle Scout in the pursuit of helping others 🙏
Thank you Dr. Peterson, for everything you do!
I'm so grateful for JBP interpreting and revealing the hidden meanings in the Disney epics and the Bible. Most grateful.
Absolutely fantastic! JP communicates so beautifully! When he speaks I'm uplifted and after listening feel more in tune and harmonious every time.
Thank you JP for everything! Much love always!🌞
Ahuevo hijo!
You know...I don't understand most of what anyone is saying here...let alone the guy on the screen above the comments...but GOD bless you in your freedom to think and say what you do.

I’ve taken many great classes and had many wonderful professors, but I’ve never seen a professor receive a round of applause at the end of the lecture. An impeccable educator
Hmm! i wonder if this professor has ever read the actual book in its original language. Disney mutilated Collody's story.
Thank you Dr. Peterson . I wish you happinesses and good health.
I watched all his Maps of Meaning videos and grew so much.
Jordan Peterson is a brilliant and rare person
Not the arbiter of what is attractive and beautiful necessarily though. No matter what ones status or education might make them believe and state matter of factly.
Jordan, I cant thank you enough for this lecture. Truly, may Yah Bless you! 🐏
A Brilliant Lecture Pulled From The Depths Of A Magnificent Career
I don't think anyone can digest his lecture in one go, resiting his classes is a must....
To me, childhood memory, Pinocchio was about telling the truth, or not. Never knew there's more to Pinocchio then 👃👃👃
Thanks for the insight.
Them Disney mf knew 😭
Wonderful way if thinking sir. thanks for sharing your view, we lack exactly this kind of thinker and value observer. we now living in the world where "freedom" is actually a "free-dooms" with people celebrating it day and night. not knowing the end is near and they are no prepared to be thrown into the cliff.
It is amazing how Jordan can do a lecture like that based in a movie like pinocchio
My favourite Disney movie hands down since I was a kid, Great to see Peterson having this lecture
Just beautiful to listen. Thank you Dr Jordan Peterson
So thankful for the internet and our ability to see true genius at work.
Do Peter Pan. And Alice in Wonderland. These original books are all warnings to parents too.
It’s rare to find depth like this in contemporary writing.
Despite all our modern hubris and delusions of superior worldview our society is plagued by mental weakness and blind spots.
Thank you for everything Mr Peterson
Glad to see this video is finally available. I saw it released while I was at work and taken down pretty quick via DMCA claim. Always interesting seeing your old lectures on this topic, Dr Peterson.
💯💯💯
Fuck copyright and the Mickey mouse act
Sometimes it’s fun listening to Peterson.
I wish metaphors and symbology had been explained to me better when I was a child.
No point, you wouldn’t have understood, better to learn it when you can actually grasp it
Fascinating parallels between Pinocchios journey and modern woke ideals. Love listening to this!
This is what should be taught before anything else.
Please do more psychology Jordan!! That’s why we love you
Personally at now 59 years old I have passed several stages or levels that helped me to became an adult, a man and it has been difficult and I suffered a lot because my dysfunctional family ( 8 th of a 9 children family) had left me with many things to repair and mostly no tool or know how to resolve them.
The Courage to change the things that I can and
The Wisdom to know the difference.
The more you pay attention to your real self, there would be more subtle things that will appear so you will have to accept the like it is or try to change it.
Have a good walk on the path.😊
In all my years of school, I've never clapped in applause at the end of a lecture
Great lecture Dr. JP! It reminds me of what John Henry Newman said. “ The conscience is the aboriginal vicar of Christ.” ( delete? )
I have been going back to the pinocchio story once in a few years. It does have very strong imagery in terms of archetypes and personality development. I enjoyed this lecture, thank you.
such an incredible explanation, love the perspective. Thank you
It's an example of how archetypes work, and an example of shared human experience. Something about Pinnoccio is "Human" to its core
This man has lifted so many from the deep, dark ocean we call modern society.
Generous people CHANGE THE WORLD.
God bless you Mr Peterson
I love when you mentioned that he mastered fire cause at the beginning of the movie Pinocchio almost burned himself with it, by learning from his experience he was able to turn something destructive of the world into something good.
I can relate with everything Dr. Peterson says so deeply.
I heard this and took it to memory and meditated on it for a very long time, still to this day, many years later it is in my daily talk to the subconscious. "The rock that stands in the ocean is constantly challenged by the waves for its stability. By being grounded in what's important will you rise to the challenge of the waves?" I have looked at this in many ways.
username checks out
I would honestly do anything to see Dr. Jorden Peterson analyze Attack on Titian
Yes! Thank you forever everything Dr JP. Hope you are well.
This analogy is always a helpful reminder
I saw Pinocchio when I was probably 9. Still love this story. Dr Peterson makes me enjoy the story even more.
An important film to show ones children then in many more ways than I originally considered
Man...do I wish I had a Psychology professor like Dr.JB Peterson
Keep up these well picked nuggets!
Maybe one day we will have comprehensive playlist of all major and minor 'notes struck' that spark the much needed light within..
You should all watch the lectures on this - it’s incredible
Jiminy is a cricket, not a grasshopper
Wow, I really felt these insights: I am currently in Moldova, unsure of why I love this country so much... but "you can't choose the things you like." I've tried for like 8 years to explain the "Moldova thing" to people... and it never sat well. I realized while listening to this that I am looking to leave my childhood behind, and start a new life, away from the safety and security of my family, my friends, and my coutry. Unfortunately I have to leave for a few weeks because I forgot to get my FBI clearances to get a long-term visa here before I left. But now I know what I need to do. :-)
"The Parable of the Little Fish"
"The fool catches the little fish...and glad that he ate...
The Wise catches the little fish... and used it for bait." Selah... -Gerald
I needed this explanation like 10 years ago Dr. P
*Thank you for the lecture, you're really a intellectual.*
An intellectual.........if the next word starts with a vowel. It's An......ok

That thumbnail image is absolutely perfect. One liar next to another.
Non-fiction is stranger than fiction!
Simply brilliant.
Do a series on Disney fables!
please, Pinocchio is not a Disney fable
@@Torile0 Yah I know that but whether you like it or not that is how most people today know about it. Regardless, his breakdown is fascinating which is why I requested more breakdowns.
0:29 PINOCCHIO - Walt Disney. "One of the best representations of the individual motivations for fascism that I’ve ever seen anywhere.”
Man! I love these lectures!
"It's much better to learn how to do something than to benefit from the thing itself."
Dayyyyuuuum.
Disney: bleeding so badly they're copyright striking actual analysis of their work because they know it will get more views than Disney properties 😆
That's exactly what i was hoping for
Can you not? 1:00
So many concepts under one entangled story. With prove embedded into the story itself.
Love these videos. Thank you 😊
Psychological analysis helps people understand why and how their minds work.
Interesting commentary. 📽
The original book has so much to offer. Another disney dystopia that undermines the thesis.
4:26 "These are the roots of our world. Men are props on the stage of life, and no matter how tender, how exquisite... A lie will remain a lie..."
