Does Todd Try To Talk To Glamour When They Are Alone Together?

- No one was in the office and Glamour came in and started playing alone. Shortly Todd came up and and said her name. This is very interesting because Todd does not use the buttons if Dad is not in the room. Was he saying hello? Was he just talking to himself and commenting that he saw her? Did he hear her playing and was he asking to join in? I wish he would have said more. After this Glamour stops playing and I can hear her on the video getting into her basket. Todd stays on the floor watching her. He loves Glamour but unfortunately, she does not feel the same about Todd.
Todd is a 6-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 51 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. @@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks It will be very interesting to see if he uses other buttons like love you or hello with just Glamour around. There is no doubt he was using the button to or about Glamour - his attention was fully on her - yet it wasn’t to communicate with you. That alone is a leap.

It’s hard to tell whether he was just thinking aloud or trying to communicate with her. As you say, he was watching her, so maybe if he’d seen any sign from her that he had her attention, he would have pressed more buttons.

It was so fun watching Glamour play. She seemed so young, though I know she's not. She seems to be an introvert, keeping to herself. But when she has something to say, she certainly speaks up.

I think he was pressing it to acknowledge her presence and to see if she would acknowledge a button press for her and he perhaps would have pressed more but she didnt acknowledge him and went to her basket lol!

Cats have lots of nonverbal ways to communicate with each other and Glamour’s consistent message to Todd is “stay away”. Maybe Todd thought using the button to say her name would get a different response from her.

It is very interesting to see Todd using a button when there is no human to respond to his "utterance." I would very much like to see any further instances of Todd using buttons to talk "to himself" or "to the other cats."
The only other time recently he has done this was after I accidentally stepped on and broke one of his Jingle Balls, and he saw it. This is his special toy and is precious to him. He was by himself in the office with the light out again and said Ouch then lightly tapped Jingle Ball and had a very sad look on his face.

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalksThat is a very thought-provoking video. He is definitely thinking about the jingle ball. He knows you are home, but instead of going to greet you, it almost seems like he is wondering if you will be able to play his favorite game with him now that you are home, or not. It's impossible to know exactly what the "ouch" refers to, but definitely "something bad happening" that is definitely associated with the jingle ball. What is the other button that he briefly touches in that video, just after the second time he taps the "jingle ball" button? It doesn't look like an accidental touch, so I wonder if he is considering a different toy/activity he might ask for, when you come upstairs?

I _THINK_ Todd understands that his cat communication ways to other cats are limited, and tries to expand his human communication to other cats.
But that is just a guess at this point.
Glamour is every but as smart as Todd, and she knows a lot n of the words on the board, she just has no interest in using them.

Maybe practicing, rather than talking to himself? I am learning Portuguese and occasionally if I see something that I just recently learned the word for, I will repeat the word aloud to myself just because it's new and fun and interesting to use. But I also think it was some sort of acknowledgement. Or maybe both things at once! I loved seeing her scamper around all frisky, that's lovely at her age.
I think Todd was definitely trying to talk to Glamour, as Tod turned round to look at Glamour for some sort of response just like he does with Daddy, but because he didn't get anything (I assume as I heard no meows) that Todd didn't continue Xx
I love this channel. It shows how cats care about each other and can communicate with each other and humans. My cat also communicates but through using body language, meows, chirrups and his paws. I am trying to teach him to use buttons but it is difficult.

You are very welcome. Todd loves his buttons and to learn. His favorite thing is to get new words. If you saw in the July 4th video where I was recording his new buttons I was going to give him during the fireworks to ease his mind he was so excited. He was asking me to tell him what the words meant as I was recoding them and then he was telling me several times he wanted them now. Lol

When you see Glamour for the first time in an area you perhaps say her name.
Also the main principle of cat etiquette is to show respect. Which usually is to give space. By saying her name, he said hello, while keeping respectful distance. A very fine young man.

After dozens of videos, it appeared like he looked to her like he looks at you when he's waiting for your acknowledgement after a button press.
Someone else mentioned that, too, and I had not thought of that. I think that may be what he was doing.
I think he wanted to play. She was certainly cute.
He does want to play and be near her. She will have none of it, poor guy.
I always think one day Glamour will realize Todd is a nice boy she can be good friends with. Well maybe next time. I think he was trying to get her attention, maybe to play together.
It will take time, when he was a kitten/young adult. She tried to play with her and was a little rough. I don't think she trusts him even though he has outgrown that.

Hii! If I see well Todd 1st checked the food-mousie, then the small bowl and those were empty. Then he said Glamour's name...maybe he left you Catdad "a note" that Glamour ate it all, not him. So he CAN get treats! Maybe he knows you somehow will find it. ;) :D

Social Cats have a normal greeting, but I think I remember that this was filmed before Glamour allowed Todd within her space. So it is possible he was greeting her in the safest, long distance, way he knew she might understand.
Glamour still has not allowed that. More often than not, if he gets close to her, he will get a slap to the face.
It seems to me that Glamour has been getting (a little, maybe) more 'Cat Curious' about what is going on with those Buttons. (As in Todd "Changing his Dad's behavior." 'Everyone wants to Rule the World.')

Your channel is very interesting, clear evidence that cats (and other creatures) are much more intelligent and sensitive that human thinks. Just a small piece of advice, if You could make Your videos shorter (statistics shows that people are not very willing to watch videos longer than 1 minute) and higher resolution You would rule the RUclips ;-). I am also watching BilliSpeaks :) It would be a fascinating and revolutionary experiment to observe how two cats communicate with each other using the language :) The scientific world would go crazy :)

... that regular human thinks. - I have never had any doubts of the intelligence of any creatures - we all tend to have the same amount of evolution time behind us. It is just, that people have been so centered in their ways of communicating and doing things, that only recently it has been possible to scientifically "prove" that other species communicate as well.... (How stupid are we humans, really? 😉)
Interesting input. I will note that the only commenter requests I recall seeing were for longer videos - viewers wanted to see more of Todd playing and interacting with Dad.
I enjoy the longer videos. Getting to spend time with Todd is so therapeutic, time to enter in his kind and happy world! Also I get so curious about how Tood thinks and uses new words to express feelings and ideas, like when he wants Dad to create a new toy under his instruction. I am learning so much about the inter life of cats. Fine with me to have longer videos!!!!!
I meant : to cut or shorter the scenes when there is no Todd or no any interaction :) Of course we want more of Todd and his affectionate Daddy, their bond is so strong and heartwarming :)). We want more Todd and more videos. It is addictive. :) I start my day watching Todd and other felines and dogs practising the method and I don't expect to have enough any time soon :)

1. There are a number of multiple cat/dog homes with videos like this on RUclips. I find it curious that none of them have trained two or more pets to use the buttons.
2. If I had two cats, one of which I could talk to, I would ask him/her if he/she talks to the other cat in their native tongue.
3. I think Tod was just calling to Glamour, trying to get her attention and he got snubbed.
I think those pet parents have tried with their other cats, who are just not interested. Todd's dad keeps offering Glamour and Paulie the opportunity but they haven't taken it up. 🙂
@acecombatter6652, the channel "What About Bunny" features two dogs, Bunny and Otter, and they both use the buttons. Sometimes it seems like they may be trying to talk to each other with them. 😊
I don't force them to do anything they don't want to do. I have offered in the past and occasionally still do offer to teach the other kitties but they are not interested. You second question is interesting but I have no idea how you would teach a cat to understand Native Tongue.

It's a little bit poignant the way he says her name then turns to look over at where I presume she is sitting. Looking at his body language right after the button press it seems as though he's saying her name to try to get her attention.

He sniffed around, and registered that Glamour has just been there. Then he scratches the board - he does that when thinking about the buttons. Then he presses "Glamour". So, I believe that Tod was just thinking aloud in the "human language" that Glamour had been around. He has properly an internal name for her, but this is the foreign name (the button name), and it needs to be rehearsed.
I'm sure she loves Todd too but Todd is 6 years old, he's like an young man but glamour an old lady, my own experience with female cats were always different than the male ones, female cats always appear so mature to me, some of them don't like cuddles and specially the old ones want their boundaries to be respected by their owners, I saw so many times how some owners cuddle their cats by force or do some tricks that may be fun for humans but not for them so sometimes this may cause the cat to be aggressive, I follow this channel because I never saw any of this behavior between you and your cats and I'm sure they love you and each other.
Thank you for your comments and kind words. No, I never force my babies to do anything they do now want to. Glamour is bonded to me, and I know she loves me. She always wants to be near me. She has been a little spicy her whole life. She does not want to be picked up and cuddled at all. She prefers not to be touched without permission, and touching her belly even on accident is a guaranteed way to check how well your first aid kit is stocked, lol. She was very playful when younger but has naturally slowed down in her old age and declining vision.
How does Glamour feel about Todd? And how does she feel/think about the button voices? Does she usually go elsewhere or stop what she is doing when the buttons are being used?
Glamour is bonded to me and wants to be close by to watch me. She does not wish to be picked up and you should get her permission before petting or brushing, which she loves but on her terms only. Glamour does not care for the other cats and my wife when she is talking to me. Glamour would prefer it to be just her and I alone. Lol Oh and most important, NEVER touch the belly, even accidentally, it will be painful and you will need a band-aid(s)
Try hiding treats and catnip around the house from time to time... to help indoor cats beat boredom by exercising their hunting instincts.

Hmmm... Interesting. Maybe he was trying to call her over to play? I think you've said she's a little standoffish about Todd's admiration? Not that she dislikes him, but that she likes being more independent. If she comes when you call, maybe she'll come when Todd calls? Or so Todd might think.
She will come when I call her. She is bonded to me and wants to be around me. She is not a cuddle cat and you should not touch or pet her without her permission, lol. As far as the other cats, I think she wants to be an only cat. Actually, she wants it to be just her and I alone on the house. She yells and chitters T my wife when she talks to me. Lol.

Though she might just be attracted to people talking. I have a cat who we joke shows up only when women are talking. So we say "Girls are talking" and she's come to be included in the discussion because she wants to be one of the girls.
Still, I wouldn't be surprised if she'd be an only cat if she could. Some cats bond with other cats, but there's lots that only bond with people.
I wonder if Todd notices that the buttons sound like you? Since Glamour likes you, he may have hoped she'd have a more positive reaction.
I recently discovered Todd- and have been binge watching through his videos. After watching a lot of them I have a question. He seems to have a bit of difficulty with the response of his buttons when he pushes them. Many times he will have to attempt to push a button multiple times before it will "speak" for him or the button will not give a speech response at all when he pushes it. It seems like many of them have to be pushed pretty hard for them to activate. Is there a way to adjust them somehow so they don't have to be pushed as hard and they can be made more responsive? I don't see Billi having this issue with the pressure on the buttons.. I'm wondering if Kendra has been able to make them more responsive to a lighter touch somehow?
The buttons are super easy to push. Just his tail thumping down on a button will set it off. The problem is he is pawing at them like he's scratching in the littler box. I have to keep going and pushing them down because he is pulling them out of the tiles. When he pushes, he does fine, but his cat instincts are to paw and scratch.

I love your videos and what you are doing for Todd, but your videos are always too long and could be edited to be much shorter and still make the point or tell the story
They are the length they are because I need to show it in one continuous shot. When I don't, people who don't believe start saying i edit different buttons are pushes together to make it look like Todd is really communicating. I found this was the only way to stop the majority of it. I also now add chapters to the newer videos so you can skip to what you want to see.
