- In today’s video, I just got back from a business trip and Todd is very happy to see me. He is always very active with his buttons when I get back home after a trip and wants to do so much. After almost an hour of non-stop requests and interactions. He also requests that he get more brushes and cuddles later in the day. Todd will ask for something “Later” and almost always will tell me later in the day he wants it then. It truly amazes me that he does this. (He did ask for both later in the evening)
Todd is a 6-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 48 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. My baby used to do that too. Then she would smush her face into my shoulder. I miss her terribly. Todd is such a sweetie, he is a really good boy. I can't believe how well he behaves when he is being brushed. And tummy rubs?! Wow, he just takes it all in with such a laid back attitude.🥰🥰

Dad tells Todd "later", so Todd tells Dad "later"... brush later.... LOL Todd exhibits his knowledge of time. Brush later..... whirley later..... cuddles later.... now I am planning my day. What a Cat!!!

Yes, that was the first time I put that view on. He was just being very sweet with his greeting cuddles and hugs and you can't see above my knees on the Todd Cams. Lol

I wonder if maybe Todd was planning his day the following morning, starting with cuddles, brush and THEN whirly? I’ve noticed with other animals using buttons, they also like to plan their day ahead and then announce their plans. Such organized little minds they have!
Maybe, I honestly had never thought about him planning the next day. I'm still trying to believe he is planning the rest of today let alone tomorrow. Lol

Cats love routines. They prefer to have everything in certain orders every day - predictability is important to them and they know the time although they do not know the clock.

I think Todd might have been saying “later morning” for his brush & toys. He really pulled out every toy he could think of”to make up for your absence!
Oh yes, when I get back he works down the list until he start to get tired then lets me know what he wants to do later. He wants to make sure I know he's not done with me yet. Lol

It was cool seeing your upstairs! I pictured it very different. 🤣😃 I had never heard of ambush toy, laser mouse, or butterfly. Todd was a busy boy! It is always so sweet to see him press, "I love you." 😻💖 That really must feel very special to hear Todd "say" that. 😁👍

He is, I always have to make sure I have extra time set aside for him when I return from a trip.
Of course a cat has to plan its day.The mice and birds are at different places at different times-in particular it is easier To get them dring sunset and sunrise....
So planning the day is paramount.
Admittedly Todd plans for food-mousie and huntig ambush toy, and cuddles, brushings and floor time, but it is all just the same to Todd ;-)

This is the most important thing I am learning about now. Koko the gorilla who may have used sign language probably would have done better with (sturdier!) buttons. When I was a kid, reading SF, I wanted so much to meet aliens and learn to talk with them. They were right here all the time! Wonder if anybody has tried to devise buttons for octopi.
They are probably smart enough to use them!

Oh my goodness. I just love this video. The first opening scene was so sweet. The way Todd holds his tail straight out when you were holding him was so cute. I love watching you both be so connected to each other. That bond is priceless. Real love❤️

Yes, it was non stop play for about an hour or so
I will start by verifying that I have only seen about maybe 6 or 7 different channels...I think 5 cats and 2 dogs...all fairly popular channels and a spattering of small channels with people trying the buttons, and I have to say that I think Todd and Billi from BilliSpeaks are the two who have amazed me the most. They really truly seem to "get it" and are communicating on some level. Of course it takes a lot of time and dedication from Todd's Dad and Billi's Mom to see it through and also I believe the bond between them and their "hoomans" is a main part of it also....they both seem to almost need to talk to them. Their bond is so strong they really desire to communicate with their Dad and Mom.
That's not to say of course that cats or dogs who don't get the button concept or use them don't have a wonderful special bond with their owners but just like people these animals have different personalities and varying degrees of intelligence. What's important to one may not be for another. Todd seems highly intelligent as well as extremely bonded with Dad and craves not just his attention but a true connection through the words he's learning.

My cat understands a dozen hand signals, and I have always said the same thing to people who are impressed by it (ngl, I love showing him off!) That you need two things. First, you need a cat with a high intelligence, second, you need a really strong bond and absolute trust.
Know what you mean. I only watch the same 2 cat talk button channels.
I started with BilliSpeaks before I found this one.
These inspired me to do the same with my daughter's cat Sasha. She's a 10 month old Russian Blue. My grandbaby. I haven't told my daughter my plans. I want to surprise her after I train Sasha. Getting the buttons and treats at the beginning of the month (April). Hopefully she will be trained by mother's day or her birthday at the end of May.
My daughter works a lot so it will be easy to hide the training.
I'm so excited. Sasha is extremely smart so I'm confident she'll do great 😸.

Well I have to say Todd amazes me too. He is an incredible cat. And even after watching these videos for just a short time, I think it's plain to see that Todd is your soul cat. I had that once also, and everyone with a cat should be so fortunate.

Human toddlers are very much like that, wanting to get a queue built up of things to do so they feel assured of one's company. A lot of insight into my kitties available here, that fits 100% into the Tibetan Buddhist teaching that animals feel all the same emotions we do.
I firmly believe they feel the same things we do.

Now that you’re back from your trip, I am almost certain that Todd is not planning the rest of his morning to redo the same things he just did, I feel very strongly that Todd is trying to communicate that he wants to make sure YOU are planning to be there with him tomorrow - “later-morning”. Before you left this last time he seemed upset and from what I saw he only knew you were leaving shortly before you had to go when he saw your toiletry bag. I’m guessing that at some point the day before when he was planning something to do with you, he was using the later button to signify tomorrow and he may have thought you were actually confirming that you would NOT be leaving the following day - then when he saw your toiletry bag, that frustrated him to say the least lol. Next time I would love to see you tell him a day or two in advance and keep him updated on your schedule so he can prepare himself and plan for your absence accordingly. I just do not think he’s telling you “later” followed by the word “morning” over and over just to confirm that he wants similar things he just received, later this morning. He is so smart, he must be referring to THE “later-morning” - tomorrow. I’m sure he is letting you do all that stuff he likes just about any time, including “now”, but his deepest concern is whether you will be there in the morning or if you’re going to be leaving again. Especially since you mentioned in the previous video that you tell him how many “laters” you have left on your trip when you talk to him on the camera every day until you get home - now the next thing he’s talking about as soon as you get home is his plans for your next “later”. It makes sense! Do you have a button for “tomorrow”? Btw you are such an inspiring cat dad thank you so much for all you share with us, and I absolutely, truly love Todd 😭😻

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks Yes!! Remember when he came up with “no happy” because he didn’t have words like “sad” or “mad” yet? And all the ways he figured out how to talk about his dental issue? He’s such a smart and sensitive boy, and clearly very self-motivated to strengthen his verbal skills. So I think it’s only fair to HIM to at least entertain the possibility from time to time that he may actually be trying to communicate much more than what we are hearing or than we thought that a cat could conceive of! He is really teaching all of us, and he is clearly so happy to do so. What a brilliant fellow! 🤩😻

@whats3219 I'm sure it like if you went to someone and said, "Do you want to learn a foreign language?" They have to want to do it to learn. If they are interested, they will do it, if not no matter how much you ask they won't want to. We are essentially asking the cats if they want to learn our language.

It is new to the channel. It was the only way I could show Todd greeting me when I got home. I have had several requests for it. That is my camera so I can see what all the kitties are doing when I'm away if they are not on the Todd Cams

This is very impressive but scary, too, lol. If you truly want your cat to learn how to use that board, you have to respond immediately, every time he asks for something. My cat might not know English, but I can ignore him when I want to!
I disagree. If you respond too soon you are not letting him finish his thoughts. It is not uncommon for cats to take 30 seconds between button pushes. Everything I have read says wait and let them finish

Hi! The cold is much better, thank you for asking. When Todd is ready for something he has asked for later he will usually just ask for it. Sometimes he does include Now, an sometimes he will say Todd Brush Now.
First, the stretch in to shoulder based cuddes was amazing.
Second, do you have links to the ambush toy and butterfly? Seems like an affiliate link opportunity.
Third, it almost sounds like Todd is asking for things later to make sure you will be home.
He usually does the stretch to a hug when I pick him up. The only product Todd is affiliated with are his buttons and the links to all his toys are in the video descriptions in the newer videos
I recall a study regarding feral cats; they had a daily routine amazing enough. I especially recall one whose actions were described as 'trying to dispossess the resident cat.'
He found a place he like and decided to move in. What do you think of that?

Some of these people treat their animals with far greater decency, attention and care than many parents treat their children. Some children barely get 'the time of day' from their parents, but those parents *_do not_* spend time with their children, meeting their heart-needs, the way Todd's person does with Todd. While Todd's caretaker is commendable, a great many parents are pathetic. Todd *_knows_* he is loved, but many children either don't or they know they aren't. What a huge contrast. They have taken their children for granted, much like many have taken their animals for granted, both believing their charge didn't have much intelligence or significance to offer, and both were wrong. As we observe animals like Todd and Bunny and elephant Faa Mai and the Sheldrick elephant orphans, we realize that mankind has always been very wrong about animals. If we can learn to value and take seriously, with respect, these animals, then how greatly rewarded will we be when we realize how worthy of heart investment one's own children are?! It is *_time_* for people to wake up to truly value the animals and their own.

I went to give day no. 2 present to my son and his partner this morning, my son's partner was watching youtube, and I realised she hadn't watched the unboxing video! She was absolutely delighted. I have also ordered some miniature Chanukah table decorations but I don't think they will get here before Saturday since I had to order from overseas. I will absolutely be doing a little holiday table for them next year, though. Maybe also one for Pesach.

Todd only does it with me, and the other cats are not interested. I have offered and continue to offer it to them, but they are not interested.

Does he interact with the buttons when you are away and he is alone with your wife and the other cats? I just wonder if the buttons are specific to your relationship. Maybe he would miss button time communication when you are away, as if he was in a foreign land where no one spoke his sophisticated language.

Yes. Rarely, but yes. I will offer it and you can almost see him shrug mentally and be like yeah, alright. Let's do this now. Lol
