It does depend on the country. I graduated from the university of Auckland's school of engineering, people are really really mature and nice but my cousin back in India have a really different definition of university. Ragging is a big issue and poor freshman usually had to deal with it. Nonetheless, love your reaction.
The director u were talking about is not in the movie ..The actor that portrays the professor is BOMAN IRANI. and the director name is RAJKUMAR HIRANI. Also in the previous one the scene where everyone were pulling down their pants or underwears shows the bullying or ragging that is generally seen in colleges or that seniors or ur superiors do !! So the freshmen were being ragged by their seniors in the scene!1
We are poor people and live in joint families (many of us)... Our parents dedicate all their lives for our betterment and comfort... I think it's their right to depend financially on their children, once they become incapable and since they have done so much for their children...

At certain places you were commenting on Indian culture with predisposed western comparison.. The opportunities and problems in securing their children's life is not as open and equal as you are exposed to in other developed countries.. so the role parents play in India is different and unique in many ways.. and I feel it is the 'fundamental right' of the parent to depend on the child - and as a child it is my duty to take care of my parents till my last breath - this familial value is imbibed into every true Indians - opposing this thought is voicing against our familial culture..
Last month because of sudden announcement of Exams.....our 3 students of 3rd Semester Engineering Comitted Suicide, but still the government didn't changed the Time table of our Exams. We somehow finished it.. Yesterday.
Situation in India is different! Most poor parents are dependent on their kids because the parents are busy in their work! Mother is busy managing households and father works on factory etc for cheap so he could afford the school fees etc for his kid! Thus they're all dependent on their kid to become something and since the ages all Indian Parents want their kid to become either Enginner or Doctor because in their Eyes the salary of these categories are higher!
And as shown in movie, middle class family doesn't want much trouble in their life or in their kid's life so they won't let their kid to take risks! That's why they will encourage to chose the field which is proven to be peaceful once you achieve which is in India "Government Job"
This is fact..when a student got 92%..they might depressed..because there are so many students who got higher than that 92%..life is hard for indians coz of multi million humans are here for competition
Dillon u seem to be very emotional n may be that scene touched some of ur memories. U seem so agitated n that's a sign of a kind being. The Lady is more balanced n mentally stronger. Cheers..
22:56 - this is the unfortunate reality for many students in India, children are forced to become study machines. 3 Idiots really ran well because it exposed just how outdated Indian society is becoming. At least in the West, your uncles and aunts aren't forcing you to become something or shaming you for something. Farhan's case is one of many of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people. There are bankers, doctors, engineers, scientists that are actually great at creative arts but can't express. Indian parents expecting their children to operate like Grade A supercomputers. Honestly. And this isn't just India, it's in Asia as well. Why because uncle/auntie society is too much. And the Uncles are too outdated. It's sad. India can't become a superpower when such conditions even exist tbh. And just reading the comments, I fully agree with them.

This is the best best best movie i have ever watched. I am the victim of the parental pressure and did wasted 3 years of my life in college, in some thing that i was never interested in. Teachers and parents play the big part in a student's life. And they should know that imposing something on the child can cost him his life and everyone got just one.
This is reality.... It increases the tolerance power.. Even after this indians live with their parents.... We consider parents our love ... No matter how rich we are... We can never leave the parents..
I don't agree with your opinion on parents should not depend on their child for financial help. Do you expect a 80 year old ailing father work and arrange for his own food and medicals? In that case why do parents have to spend on their child for years. Let the child start working from age 10 and get his own education. This western culture of leaving parents to die when they need you the most is so selfish, irrational and absurd.
