It's probably overkill, but I also did a full tear-down of my L502x, and I am going to replace the thermal pads with some Gelid GP-Extremes (they appear to be 1mm, btw) after watching JayTwoCents' video from Sept 12, 2021 about them. Also gonna repaste with some Thermal Grizzly, again probably overkill, but better to do it right, I think :)
I have same laptop (XPS L502X). It got blue screen error so I shut down it (not see the error). Next day when I try to power on, it's power button led & other leds, keyboard backlights & fan turns on but display is not turning on. Not even Dell boot logo is showing. What is the issue and how can I fix it ?
You used way too much thermal paste. Get Grizzy paste, put a bead on one side of the die. And then use the included spreader to spread out a thin layer like you are scraping butter over bread.
mine is like 10 years old im giving it some upgrades including an ssd and a new cooling fan, so this is a well appreciated video thank you.
Got the upgrades? The machine any better now? I also have a decade old L502x i7. I've never changed the thermal paste 😀

Didn't know what you were doing but the dismantling was interesting. Evidently thermal paste needs renewing sometimes. Who knew.

I wonder why they painted part of the heat sink black? I'm guessing maybe it's some kind of coating that helps keep dust from sticking.

@@icelandic1717 I'm going with Arctic TP-3 pads for the L502X. I know those pads are soft and so will squish as the original pads were pretty squishy.

Hi, it maybe a RAM problem. I suggest you replace them to see if it fixes the error. And also if you repaste it badly it will overheat so be careful.
How much difference did you notice in thermals?
Depending on the quality of the thermal paste you're using, about 25 degrees!
