Watched it back then and probably watch it about every 6 months since. A very important documentary. Probably one of the best world cups and my favourite too.
The best football documentary ever made. ..of the best World Cup. If you lived through it, it’s a part of your DNA 🧬, your story, who you are as an England fan . Kevin Allen . Legend 👏🏻
I remember watching this when it first aired, weirdly it aired on New Years Eve night so not many people got to see it. It was played one more time a few years later, but I will tell my mate to watch this as he was camping on Sardinia for the group stages, cheers.
Nothing captures the feeling and mood of Italia 90 better than this documentary. If you add it to the brilliant United BBC documentary of the same year, a series that followed Sheffield United's promotion to the First Division, and one of my favourite ever seasons as a Blade, you get a fantastic snapshot of football - and attendant politics - as it was 31 years ago. It was the first time England made me shed tears of disappointment, something only Sheffield United had managed up until then.
This was a great watch I enjoyed it a lot, thanks for uploading. It's mad your man Kevin is Keith Allens younger brother and Lily and Alfie's Uncle. Fair play to him for sleeping rough and getting the footage.
Yes!!!! This was an epic doc. I recall just watching what I thought would be a short hour long doc. I was amazed how it took on the whole tournament and - man - the ending in Turin 🥺. Deserves to be watched on my big tv later. Thanks Kevin
Absolutely legendary TV which left a real impression on me. I watched this as a 9 year old, thankfully some of the language went over my head, and it played a huge part in shaping my interest in actually going to football and not merely watching it on TV.
This is an outstanding documentary. It's rough and ready. You have to admire these guys for backing their team. This more than just entertainment. It’s history. 🇮🇹 🏴 🇩🇪 🇦🇷 🇧🇷 🏴 🇳🇱 🇺🇾 🇪🇬 🇮🇪 👍 There was the third place play off that doesn’t get mentioned.
I'm Irish and can only admire this documentary. Ireland qualified for the first time and had great success reaching the quarter finals without even winning a game lol. England had a great team and should have reached the final, it's a shame. Same in 1996, better team in the semi but unlucky on penalties.
Thanks so much for posting this 🙏Heard about it but never seen it before. It's a brilliant documentary well ahead of its time. Read All Played Out by Pete Davis for more Italian 90 insight from and English POV.
One thing that does stand out is the lack of England flags. Plenty of Union Jacks, but not so many St George Crosses. I applied to go to see England in Sweden two years later. As I recall it, the official fan package was two weeks on a campsite (no details) for £1000. That didn't include tickets or travel. 20 years later I watched England in Ukraine, only to find out from a Swedish tv crew that UEFA had block-booked every single hotel room in the Donetsk region for UEFA officials and sponsors.
I think it was just because it was quite difficult to buy an England flag back then. You could get Scottish or Welsh flags quite readily back then, but apart from that it was Union Jacks. Notably the Portsmouth fan who can't take his flag in has a White Ensign, something you could find in a navy town. Get a flag, get some words sewn or screen printed on and away you went. Not like now with professionally produced flags for anywhere available to order online.
I was there and it also kicked off against Ireland because some Irish waved a pro IRA flag at the England fans (red rag to a bull)and all that . Had a great time overall and have fond memories of the matches I witnessed although England were lucky against Egypt ,and witnessed a fantastic electrical storm during the Ireland game
Unfortunately English fans who followed their teams in European competitions, and who followed the England national team, in the 1990's, were paying for the sins of the behaviour of English fans in the 1970's and 1980's. It was so obvious that was going to happen. I remember going to watch Manchester United in the 2nd leg of the Champions League quarter final in 1997 in Oporto, where we'd already won the first leg at Old Trafford 4-0. We had the police firing rubber bullets at us, and a terrible experience getting into the ground. No surprise whatsoever.
A great documentary from a priceless time in my life, brings back many amazing memories.
Quite simply the best football documentary ever made. Thanks for posting.
Very welcome mate.

This is my 2nd favourite World Cup tournament after 1986, and that's only because the 1986 tournament was the first one I ever watched.
I watch this every Sunday
Every Friday for me, when football was pure unlike now
fantastic doc! The best world cup ever!
Absolutely magnificent documentary 😉👍❤ 💙 🇬🇧 🏴 🏴 🏴

Unbelievable 🏴 👏

Superlative travelog
When qpr had England players -Paul Parker was immense
There is actually a bit missing at the start where he leaves his local pub and begins the journey.
The Scouser is Rob T. Bang on lad.

I find it strange the amount of Union Jacks & lack of St Georges🤔

6:19 🤣Nice
your doc is gone through by quickly kevin will he score podcast🎉 expect a lot of thumbs ups coming your way. was excellent ❤
Thanks Quickly Kevin.
2000 out of 80,000 tickets to ACTUAL fans is shocking!
1:28:18 “The Mirror bullshiting on the football front, The Sun just talk shit all the time”. Who would of thought eh?
What scumbags to walk out and not pay Gino's bill after all he did for them.
The fans didn’t take the money home, they didn’t have it. They taught Gino to take payments on arrival.
First appearance of 90's stalwart Roger Nouveau @ 1:43:15

Deutschland Weltmeister. best wm. Thanks to all
I hated Moynihan, the little rat. Thatcher's puppet.
