Okay I know I'm hella late to this party, but I've received no less than 40,000 comments telling me to check this out so evidently now is a good time since the sequel just dropped.
Lmaooooo, that’s fantastic. I highly appreciate your work too, this video even mentions your Thaumaturgy video briefly. I can see how the audiences crossover.
i like the idea that we can just make someone up, say they are a very obscure and ancient sage and just make them say things. It's very classical era-coded.
Mind has very well reached the end of its boney tenor 😤 Excellent work dude, the spinal catastrophism videos propelled me through the first half of my finals
omg I've been waiting for this for ages!!!!!! I even started reading Spinal Catastrophism. There are sections that literally make my heart race with excitement. I'd like to read them aloud, to scream them to the world. Other passages... are so dense. I do read it very slowly, but it's always worth it.
Best response by author/publisher and well earned for (still) one of the most mind bending videos I’ve seen incl some crazy 🐇 holes. Good luck on new venture.
Catastrophe is not a a space rook hitting us, nor an alien fat invasion. Catastrophe is indeed within our back-pain, signaling our impending doom but we bend our back too much in order to watch a video while we eat Macdonald to care about this signaling.
One last thing, the paper you cited towards the end: "Despite the comparative impulse to posit Thomas Moynihan within the lineage of Reza Negarestani’s “theory fiction,” all such compulsions ought to be curbed" Great video as always, looking forward to the next one!
The funniest thing for me is the fact that the entire thing (while being almost sarcastically gloomy) ultimately produces quite a comfy outlook on existance. By constantly upping the ante of pessimistic philosophy it is possible to arrive at a weird acceptance of it all. For me the process went something like this: 1. Assume the suffering inherent to life is so unbearable (or the causes of it so fundamental) that elimination of sufferes IS neccessary. 2. Therefore we should dispose of ourselves, witch can actually be done quite easily (via thermonuclear war for example) 3. ...but that wouldn't be compassionate enough to everybody potentially following us. 4. Therefore we also need to destroy the very possibility of all life everywhere ever. 5. Life (as we know from personal experience) eventually arises from the very base of the universe - inorganic matter. 6. Therefore no amount of destruction except somehow destroying the entire universe wouldn't be enough. 7. But then we remember that the universe is already very slowly commiting omnicide by entropy: its called The Heat Death. And as far as we can tell this is completely inevitable and will accomplish the great negation all on its own. 8. Therefore we can simply live on knowing that even if pessimists are correct, their morbid wishes will eventually be granted anyway. Also, while we wait for it to happen, we might as well do our best to enjoy life as it is (juuuust in case it is not THAT bad after all :3). Peace in acceptance of human mortality and of universal mortality in one fell swoop. Cosmic nihilism evolving smoothly into some kind of futuristic zen with a hint of absurdism. And if you have read this far, Freak, thank you very much for your efforts! You are doing God's work. Sometimes we need a reminder of how weird the world and our own minds can be. Wherever your interests bring you next, I'll be excited to follow.
I'm not sure you can so easily get to 5 and 6 from 4. It's very possible that the path from inorganic matter to abiogenesis and then to intelligent life is supremely unlikely. If that's the case, then I think it makes more sense to assume 4 applies to "all life we know of", not "all life that could potentially exist". Plus, even if you did get all the way down to 8, I'd say ending suffering sooner rather than later is generally better, without factoring in externalities. If we had a universe killing button, I don't think any true pessimist (if any even exist) would say "Well don't press it yet, maybe things will get better, and the universe will die in quadrillions of years anyway, so there's no rush." To the pessimist, there absolutely WOULD be a rush, the suffering is happening right now.
@master2497 Good points actually. Can't really comment on possible alternatives to life as we currently understand it but I suppose we can agree that strictly speaking shortening the time of suffering may have weight even in an infinite universe. And what's more this may be even funnier. If the matter is indeed urgent, than the imperative for space exploration and moving further up Kardashev scale holds. So now we have a beautiful case of unity of opposites: If we love life and sapience, we must grow and advance beyond our current limitations to promote and celebrate them. If we hate them, we must do exactly the same in order to destroy them. So it kinda looks like both perspective ultimately seek further advancement of humanity for the foreseeable future. The fact that they do it for opposite reasons just adds a cherry on top of this ridiculous thought experiment.
You made me read and study the entire book over the course of a few months. One of the best books I've ever read. Terrifying, but it leaves options open for the future of our evolution.
When I had my acid breakthrough, I felt like a universe of pain. I do believe we have different universes of perception deeper within us. Our conscious brain may be the highest state.
I love how spinal catatrophism practically connected the dots of a lot of crazy concepts i want to delve in my own literature and defined some symbolism that i used before learning of it, now i just have to connect the dots and involve my favorite geo politics or cultural elements and i am set
I was like half the views in part one and I barely got the general idea. Either way so hyped for this one. Edit: Mind has very well reached the end of its bony teather.
Something, something, mind has very well reached the end of its bony tether. Anyway, time to form a cartoonish pitchfork mob to fight Element Freak for getting me invested in a fictional work!!!
Let's hit it for the algorithm guys. This obscure yet kind of deep, but actually schitzo content researched to the point that you ask yourself "why would anyone??" is what the internet is all about.
Yesterday I randomly remembered your first spinal catastrophism video and searched for your channel and saw that I wasn't subscribed. Looks like I have good timing.
Damn, I showed up just in time for the premiere... that never happens. Good luck with the channel, if this is anything like part 1, it should be an entertaining watch.
If I could wear a suit digitally, I would be doing so rn. I haven't looked forward to a video this much since forever EDIT: Only now finished the video and... Damn did not expect such insane lore from a book. Crazy to see some of the books you mentioned were already in my read list... Need to get cracking on those. Mind has very well reached the end of its bony tether.
I've held off on watching part 1 (Not that I knew it would be a part 1) because the book seemed intriguing enough to look into. It seems I've got to get my rear in gear. In any case, here I am to tip the bellhop
18:00 Ok I have to be that guy; There is no evidence whatsoever that Nietzsche even had syphilis. That is a myth. Syphilis creates very obvious skin lesions and those would have been very discernable if the disease had developed enough to cause severe brain damage. He had no signs of a physiological or neurological ailment of any kind. Also Nietzsche was not in his "old age". He was in his early 40s when his nervous breakdown occurred. The channel Essential Salts has a video which goes into much more detail about this. It almost sounds like an urban legend to say that Nietzsche was "driven mad by his own philosophy", but frankly, I am unwaveringly confident that that is actually what happened, and I've discussed in detail how exactly I believe this occurred in a couple videos (I forget which ones tbh lol). Basically he philosophized himself into a quite literal catatonia in much the same way that we see in extreme cases of dissociative disorders.
Fair. It’s one of those details that’s small in the context of this whole, but stretching the truth adds to the vibe. There’s lots of things in here I wouldn’t put up much of a fight for
nietzsche's cause of death is still open for debate and his 'madness' is not conclusively linked to a syphilitic infection. there's been updates on this and some youtube content, of course, and it seems doctors threw a syph diagnosis at anything they couldn't conclusively diagnose.. regardless, saying that nietzsche had the syhp is irresponsible imo.
These videos were the best crack I’ve ever smoked, as a professional skitzo all this made sense, and like my one comment on the last video about it correlating biblically, I will again state that this is all biblically and etymologically sound regardless of the things you stated towards the end of the video. Ive learned a lot of things between this video and last and I would post comments through the video of connections I see but im too tired tonight, I do leave y’all with one Bible verse 2 Peter 3 9-10: 9. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Bonus verse cus I love God Philippians 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. (Talking about enemies of Christ)
NO! NEECHEE did not die of syphilis, common misconception. He likely died of a stroke of some sort, he had splitting migraines probably caused due to an inherited vascular brain disorder, the same kind his father had.

Believe it or not, pt. 1 actually is what led me to your channel. This really is something.
Now for the series on Fanged Noumena, each chapter its own 9 hour episode. You are being held at metaphysical metaphorical gunpoint

Very cool to hear that your video had such a big impact on their book sales. Sounds like I wasn’t the only one who decided to read it myself.
