Depends on song. Sometimes start with samples. Following someones musical process is like following a bodybuilder diet. It may or may not work in every situation.
90% of the time I start with drums mostly because I am a keyboardist and have much more fun when writing key parts around the drums, similar to your mindset. But I guess it's not because the groove falters if I start with keys I think I just enjoy having the drums instead of just thinking about the rhythm and time feel, which I factor into my playing regardless, although I think you're making a really great point with that. I also don't quantize the majority of my beats. I almost never do bass right after drums and I think I'm gonna try this more often, actually. Good point about how chords largely determine what you can do with the bass.
Great video! How do you like the Maschine software? Would be nice to see your workflow in a video with Maschine and Ableton. Greetings from Germany 👋 and keep up the good work!
Thank you! I just record several scenes in Maschine and then export and arrange in Ableton. I've explained how I do it in this video - ruclips.net/video/7B625HEONm4/видео.html But if there's anything else you want me to show, let me know.
dope stuff. i mostly start with drums too, but sometimes i want to do a chord progression first and then see what type of tempo/style that dictates. laying down a bassline after drums is pretty natural for me too. you can always go back and move bass notes to fit the chords that come later.
Thanks! I've explained some of it in this video: ruclips.net/video/7B625HEONm4/видео.html But let me know if there's anything else that you like to know, or maybe more in-depth?
Everybody’s different bro, I personally start most of the time with a chord progression, get a temple of how I wanna play it and then I may do a basic beat just to play along with it.
cool perspective! I do it the other way around haha if i start with drums i feel like i limit myself with the bpm, groove and accents that im not sure will work well with the sample i want to flip. When starting with a melody i feel like i have more freedom to express myself, and then i readjsut the sampling part if I cant get the drums to fit well, going back and forward a bit :) i find it easier to imagine a drum groove in my head while flipping a sample or making a melody. i dont know if im clear at all hahaha
Yeah, most of the time I do it all in Ableton, you can see it in a lot of my other videos. But sometimes I just want to switch it up to something more tactile and use Maschine to lay down the parts. But it all ends up in Live for mixing and arrangement.

True! But you can still get inspiration/ideas from others and apply them to your process.
@@LowHeatBeats 💯Appreciate your content. You are da man.

Yeah, you're totally clear, definitely some good points! I appreciate your perspective as well.
Do u make your beats in Maschine then drag them into Ableton? If so why not just make beats in ableton?
